What's the Engineers problem??

I don't understand those stupid ELEPHANT (Indian Gods?) helmets. Surely, HR Giger didn't mean for them to be wearing those? Surely, the Space Jockey was an Elephant Deity? Anyway, I always thought it was a periscope, not a driving seat, that spacejockey chair.

I figured whatever you've created, you have he right to destroy. I thought about it, and maybe the Jocks don't like the humans because we're now a threat to them (think Greek mythology with the old titans versus the new gods).

well if you look at what david asks holloway, "why do you think humans created me" holloways says "because we could" so flip that and change it to engineers and humans..but its open ended hence why they want a sequal

It's indeed kind of crazy. Because when you think they come to earth several time in the past you conclude that they know the human race. Why did they want us to come to this planet if it's to welcome us like this ? And why they want to attack earth now and destroy our race ? Maybe the engineer are just engineer; creation of the true god(s) to assist them ? Maybe they are just organic machine ? ( Only male engineer, sounds like "David" android version of the god(s) ! But does only engineer share our DNA or god(s) also ?

Here's my theories as possibilities: 1. The Jockeys realized their mistake and were on a mission to clean up Earth. 2. This one Jockey has contempt for artificial life and is pissed at it's creators. 3. This Jockey realizes his base has been compromised and is determined to destroy interlopers before they can report back and steal the goodies (most likely as simplest answer). 4. Jockey is neutral about humans but is containing contamination. 5. Jockey wakes up and is enraged that he is last of his species and takes it out on team. 6. All of the above. Comments?

I think all of your theories are great possibilities Jeffb. Perhaps its like theory1#, but instead of them cleaning up Earth, they wanted to test their biological weapons on us and see what happens, create new life or a new species or something..?

Don't you know that Humans have an unlimited capacity for destruction and evil? Whatever we find, we need to conquer and dominate. If it's no use to us or if it is, we find a way to ruin it (environment, living beings, etc). It's implied through archeological finds that the Engineers visited Earth and taught them things up to a point. The decision to destroy us was based on observations of our progress.

To whoever has read the Prometheus story, the gods were mad at him because he gave the world fire. Now, if we set this in our movie, Prometheus would be the engineer at the beginning of the movie, he gave Earth life as we know it. Now, maybe the guys in the space ship were the "gods", and this guy wasn't supposed to do what he did, so they got mad, and did not like us from the beginning. Now imagine waking up after thousand of years, and see a group of people you basically created, come wake you up with their "creation", David, they became the gods now, as weyland said in the TED talk. Of course he got mad. Read about the mythology around Prometheus and much of the movie will make sense

And as David says, sometimes, to create, you need to destroy.
