OK, so i saw the film on the midnight release here in the UK and loved it! But would appreciate it if someone could try and explain the life cycle of these new types of aliens we see in Prometheus, such as the big squid like creatures, 'cobra-huggers' and what exactly the black goo stuff does? Cheeers :)

Unfortunately, we don't know more then you. All critics seem to be united about one thing; the film doesn't explain much.

I don't think it can be explained. The squid thing was shoe horned into the alien universe. None of it really made sense

I've got a solid 2 pages of analysis I'm including in my official review this week. Hopefully I can offer some insight for you. But it's important to note that a couple of the new Aliens weren't even related to each other. (ie. The worms vs. Shaw's baby)

Its not actually that complicated if you look at it logically. The squid (cuddles) is the byproduct of a mutated human impregnating (not in the normal sense more in the facehugger sense) another normal human. The cobras are the result of those worms (indigenous or brought accidentally from their homeworld maybe?) entering the genetic soup and mutating. The black goop is a genetic catalyst that superspeeds the process of evolution or in the case of the engineers, it transforms them into amino acids and protein strings.

Ok, thanks for clearing that up. And I know the movie left a lot of unanswered questions but sometimes it makes movies like these better imo - leaving elements of the story unknown gives the film more mystery and also lets the viewers decide for themselves. what does everyone else think?
