i believe this film was very good, and doesnt ruin alien, as some prequels do ruin the original. star wars springs to mind. i remember an interview with the writer and he said dont ruin alien, as that is a classic, the star wars prequels ruin the moment when darth vader first reveals to luke that he is his father. well imagine if this movie explained everything about the alien life cycle, it would take away the mystery and the impact of alien. in my opinion. i still enjoyed prometheus, was very good movie.

Kinda disappointed the Engineers weren't more exotic. Some neat stuff in the movie, but in no way compares to "Alien". Suffers from "Modern Movie Syndrome".

I'm sorry, but I find it amazing that anyone who rates Alien could think Prometheus is any good. From a 'high brow' perspective it was utterly, utterly rubbish. From a pure entertainment perspective it just wasn't very good. If it was just another Hollywood blockbuster it would be somewhere below Wild, Wild West or The Book Of Eli. However, given its 'DNA' and the natural (and quite appropriate) expectations surrounding it, the end product should go down in history as one of the worst films ever made. And it will. Cliche upon cliche upon dull, prosaic, expositional, unrealistic dialogue, wrapped in a derivative, simplistic, muddled script. Visuals were quite good though until the giant squid showed up.

no ... this is definitely in the same ballpark as The Phantom Menace in terms of disappointment.

I think Prometheus made a mockery of the 'Space Jockey' being and what could have been of these beings back story.

This was a mish mash of jumpy scenes, overly complicated and under explained. Visually a treat but the script was basic, spoon fed slop. The 'Lost' writer should stick to just that, something that has long gone. Surprised that this film didn't have the covert layers both Alien and Blade Runner poses. It was quite and embarrassing movie to watch in the end. Shame.

All down to different tastes... I thought Star Wars Clone Wars and Revenge of the Sith was not bad movies, not as good as Star Wars EP4-6 but then again as with Alien and Blade Runner they all set a very high bar that will hardly be matched.
