Pleasantly Surprised

Based on the trailer, and the fact that the alien, according to Ridley Scott himself, wouldn't play any significant part in the film, I wasn't expecting too much. And guess what, that's always the best way. No movie is perfect. Alien might have been close, but Aliens was already further away from perfect and this goes even more so for part 3 and 4 (which are by the way still good movies in my opinion) Here's why I thought this film to be better than I expected it to be:
1. Good performances, especially from Michael-FACEbender, but also the numerous smaller parts, like the captain.
2. Scary at certain key moments, more so than in the original Alien for me. (Was born in 1991 though)
3. Not everything is spelled out for you, the movie requires you to think.
4. Enough reference in there to the original alien creature, I was pleased.
And of course some things that bothered me, mostly details
1. How come they flew right up to the dome with the head on top of it? It would have made more sense if they had to look for it first. Or did I miss something?
2. Taking their helmets off? Breathable atmosphere or not, that's just unprofessional. I mean you're in an ancient ruin, basically a falling rock could kill you.
3. What was with the biologist and his punker friend chickening out and going back by themselves? And taunting the snake/cobra like thing in the room with the big head like a couple of kids? Doesn't such an expensive operation require the best and most professional people for the job?
4. Had expected more from the Soundtrack. I missed the music from the trailer and longed for something creepier in there.
