Stupid behaviour, there has to be a reason

MemberOvomorphJune 27, 20122473 Views20 RepliesDoes anybody have any sollid arguments as to why Millburn and Fifield acted like such idiots? I mean, come on, even the actors themselves should have noticed it didn't make any sense? I really like the movie, but the way these two act irritates me the most. Well, along with the "Come to my room in 10 minutes." Ugh! Just can't come up with a decent explanation though. Mostly talking about the hammerpede incident, but there was more stupid behaviour from these two, like going back on their own when they see an dead Engineer. It's hard to come up with a good reason why some of the crew is so unprofessional

HERE is another side of the argument, personally i don't think they acted so strange, i mean 1. it's a movie that needs to go somewhere, and 2. Have YOU ever been on an alien planet?

No it is true there are many very strange writer and director decisions in this film despite its interesting main story line. The way those 2 acted just felt like crap movie making to millions not just us two so somethings up!
The only explanation I thought of was that they both got high and possibly the scene was cut for a lower rating? There was a bit were fifield admits hes sucking on tobacco inside his helmet to milburn might be a clue to it - hope its in the directors cut to smooth the crap out a bit more :P...

the reason is: LINDELOF. seriously... it is

If Weyland had prior knowledge about the cycle of xenomorphos, I would think .... they needed 2 dumb to experiment with them, it's hard to believe that between all the staff in earth they chose to them.

I completely agree with your analysis. As I said elsewhere about this issue, I have seen highly trained, experienced people do incredibly stupid things for a whole slew of "reasons" (i.e., sometimes through laziness or blindness by assumptions or flawed logic or poor risk analysis). So I am not surprised.
Me, I don't like snakes, so if I saw that little f*cker, I would move quickly the other way. :-)

I agree.
And to make a point on the post by Shawluv:D
Yeah, the movie has to go somewhere but seriously how hard would it have been for him to say "oh its beautiful" and kinda take a step forward and like 4 steps back and THEN have the thing attack him?
But now that you guys mention it, I really believe they showed them getting really really stoned and made a point to show that being high was the result of the clouded judgement and afterward cut the scene for whatever reason.
So therefore the biggest question is....
If the movie was rated R, What was with:
Using the F word once?
Distorting the F word the second time?
Millburn and Fifield oddly giving each other the peace sign instead of the middle finger?
Them saying "tobacco" instead of "weed" or "pot"?
And whatever else I missed....
This really did bug me about the movie or I wouldn't be sitting here complaining about it.
The "stupid acting characters" is also the reason that all my friends who aren't big Alien fans said the movie sucked so if it turns out to be just crappy editing or script or what have you, instead of a nice twist that we find out and go "ahh awesome, that makes sense", then I'm gonna be pretty pissed off with where this series heads.
June 27, 2012
I agree. I think we're uncomfortable with the immaturity of these two because WE would send our best and brightest on a mission like that. Fifield and Millburn are far from the pick of the litter.

is just.. well i went out of the theater feeling shame about this guys were Scientist...Are these Scientists?

Well, I basically think that Millburn and Fifield were to afraid to handle the discovery of the dead engineer, which I think which is not the area that they specialized, as Fifield mentioned that he specialized in rocks collection or something. Well, this is acting for the character that they played.
June 28, 2012
Milburn was a biologist - that alien was the greatest biological discovery in the history of mankind (engineerkind :S!) - very strange. I really hope the reasons come out later :S !

Theres creative writing and story telling and then theres feked up nonsense and plain bad judgement prometheus crossed the line a few times in this case...not that I am a hater of it overall...

That whole scene annoyed the hell outta me. Scientists on an alien world with no idea what the creatures on said planet are capable of and the moron goes to pet the thing? After they got scared of an earlier blip and ran like pansies the other way? All of a sudden they (or at least one of them, Fifield at least showed some concern about it) are no longer afraid of strange new alien creatures? Fucking ridiculous.

"Is it dead this time?" "I dunno, poke it with this stick and see."

I think the snakelike creature was trying to lure ..or hypnotize... the scientist.. not to frighten,,and scare him away..
After all the human was the snake's meal ticket!

Fifield and Milburn’s characters were unnecessary in the entire film imo, really. Fifield is mapping the temple w/his pups, yet they get lost???? I thought here comes the first 2 victims, but even so, why did they film some blue looking snake thing killing 1 of them, causing the other his demise.... it would have much better if they were being followed by an unseen life form as they were heading back to the ship and you just hear their demise, not see it.... it would have created the sense of wtf happened to them??? Then they both show up at the ship like Fifeild did all transformed and attacked the crew until they got barbecued by the captain and Chance
I should reach the frontier in about 6 weeks. With a little luck, the network will pick me up. This is Ripley, last survivor of the Nostromo....

"..I thought here comes the first 2 victims.."
I don't think I had that thought during the movie,,but in retrospect,,of course there were going to be victims..and the two were prime candidates...
However I did not expect the entire crew to be wiped out as they were!
I am thinking if I can recall other multipart movies where there were only two(as depicted in Prometheus).charactors advancing to the next installment..

So... I see none of you geniuses thought about the possibility of Fifield and Millburn lying about being scientist.
July 21, 2012
I was thinking more an industriial spy...
But seriously I had not thought of that,, I am sure you will detail your reasons..
No for me they were just be charactors to be used ..and abused before being eliminated,,in a brutal way..

Details? You want details, watch the movie again. The way they behave should be enough to let you know they are NOT scientists. They can't be spies because they're too stupid to be that. They would have never made it past the profiling they did before the mission. The simple answer is they were mercenaries ordered to pretend to be scientist so they would be allowed to go with the exploring party. Why? Another one of those weird Weyland orders. They were only in it for the money, that's for sure.
