SMALL Things (might) Have BIG Beginnings

Dinosaurs evolved into chickens? Then... Gaint squid-like bodyhuggers evolve into facehuggers? Then... Teen-aged protoxenos evolve into chestbursters? Big things get smaller because it's alot more efficient to heat and fuel a smaller being than it is a larger one. In our planet's pre-history, things tended to get (eventually) very much larger early on because they could (there was more food/prey around, etc.) Then things got smaller and more efficient through time because of the natural process of evolution and conservation, etc.. Not having a clue to the natural processes of this alien universe, or the artificial processes (created by the Engineers by introducing their magical black soup), I'd say it's premature to be worried about how everything fits together. The plot holes aren't holes at all, they're missing parts of the "snapshot" of this alien universe we've been given in this movie. A sequel is ESSENTIAL to this story, like it or not.

You are forgetting one thing DB... The Alien as we know it, from the Alien franchise, is much older than that born in Prometheus. The derelict Engineer craft crashed/landed there thousands of years ago with its cargo of eggs, whereas the creature born in Prometheus is born in 2093... How can something that has just been born and created already exist on another planetoid? It can't. This new creature is exactly that, it is new. A redesign, an amendment, a failed attempt at improving the original, most likely motivated by pilot falling victim to his cargo thousands of years beforehand.

Hey Snork! Looking forward to seeing the movie this Thurs. night at midnite! How about you? I'm not sure I follow you... the '79 Alien creature we saw was born of a "facehugged" human, which presumably ulitmately originated from the egg we saw that originated from whatever popped out of the dead Engineer in the seat and melted the floor of the derelict to lay the eggs in the cavern below. Whatever breaks out of the Engineer in Prometheus was born of a bodyhugged Engineer from a giant squid creature that originated from shaw, a human. (And we can assume this teenage protoxeno it still has alot of growing to do, yes?) Isn't it like comparing apples and oranges?

Of course, I use the term "evolution" in the classic sense of our planet's formation/history. That all goes in the crapper in the alien universe since "evolution" there could have been extremely sped-up/manipulated by the Engineers as well.

Let me explain it a bit more clearly The Facehugger that attacks Kane in Alien (2122) comes from an egg from the derelict craft on LV-426, which has itself been their for thousands of years. Therefore the specimens on LV-426 are thousands of years old. The creature that bursts from the engineer in Prometheus doesn't come from a facehugger, but a big squid. Which itself did not come from an egg laid by a Queen but was born from Shaw in 2093. This new Xenomorph, is exactly that its a failed attempt at a redesign of the Xenomorph.

Hmmm. Makes sense. Did you watch the end of "LOST"? I mean literally, the last 30 secs.? Trust me this means something.

Never watched lost, too much needless exposition

Yes, exactly my point. The last 30 secs. explained the whole six seasons. You know the premise right?, I'll make this quick. A plane crashes on an unknown island and LOST is the story of all its occupants. By the end of the second episode me and the wife call it: "They're all dead and the island is purgatory." The fan base quickly follows suit. JJ Abrams and Lindelof swear over and over that not's the case. Here's the problem, the last 30 secs. of LOST just shows burning wreckage of a plane on the beach. Burning wreckage of a plane so broken and scattered, (having fallen from 20,000 ft.)... that no one ever survived. Right, it wasn't purgatory, nor did the island have magical properties that brought everyone back to life... the whole 6 F___ing seasons were the "your whole life flashes before your eyes" scenario through the eyes of different passengers... just that simple. Only it was drawn out over 6 F___ing seasons! For what? To know everyone was dead the whole time? Writer: Damon Lindelof. I fear the grounded derelict laying on it's side (seen in the last few seconds of Prometheus), just as we saw it 33 years ago (I know, wrong planet? We'll see), is a sign of things to come. Engineers screw with life-altering black goo. Life altering black goo escapes from ampules and spreads all over ship along with the interior walls in Juggernaut "changing" due to atmospheric differences caused by crew of Prometheus. Juggernaut crashes onto planet releasing black goo onto/into said planet... Writer: Damon Lindelof.

How do we know that the derelict craft on LV-426 is thousands of years old? Because a character in Alien said it 'looks' that way? Rate of decomposition is a direct result of the atmosphere of a planet - LV-426 is not Earth... - so who knows how old the original space jockey was or how long the ship had been sitting there. If the derelict and said SJ are really that old, then so are the living eggs, with the living face huggers inside them... that means that those living eggs sat there for thousands of years before the crew of the Nostromo stumbled upon them? its possible yes... but it seems more probable that they were only sitting there for 30 years or so and that the derelict was part of the complex on LV-223 ...to me at least. What I think happened is that the derelicts were sabotaged by someone within the Engineer ranks. Maybe the xenos are indeed a weapon used to exterminate and they were let loose on the SJ's to stop them from doing something.... Just speculating..
