I have been following this forum since february and read tons of interesting posts, comments and theories about this movie. I have been looking forward to this movie ever since Ridley announced he was going to make an Alien prequel. This evening I finally watched it (in 3D). My thoughts are: It has some really interesting ideas and notions on creation of man, religion, human vs. machine etc., but they never really take of. I was hoping for an intense, profound and truly disturbing plot - what I got instead, was too many storylines, average dialogue and a kind of shallow feeling of seeing something that could (and should) have been so much better. The graphics and the effects are superb, but they don´t have much impact, when you are not really drawn in to the story or the characters. "Alien" with its simple effects anno 1979 are still intense, because of the human reaction to them. On the positive side the effects and visuals have texture and physicality unlike many CGI-based visuals. Its definitely entertaining but its not the epic masterpiece about creation that Ridley promised us. It seems like an act of commercial submission in many ways, especially the ending. Claiming that the Alien as a shape is worn out and then using it in the climax doesn´t make much sense.

Couldn't agree with you more. It has some nice ideas but it doesn't quite come together.

Good observations, agreed. There were a lot of great conceptual ideas that were never properly developed. The sense of missed opportunity does tend to pervade the film.

"It seems like an act of commercial submission in many ways, especially the ending." Bullseye.
