yeah i'm pretty sure 90% of us were annoyed with that.....whats the word.......film????...... heres a lil forum for the geeky ones to get your thoughts out. my rant is below. apologese for the long read. Look forward to reading other views. --------------------------------------------------------- ok i know we all went in with high expectations. i admit I have most of the comics and novels of this universe. so the chance that geeky fans like my me been disappointed was pretty high. but the level of disappointment I got was completely unexpected. Ok from a geeky perspective there were a billion plot holes and no explanations to show the writers had put much thought in it. I'm not going to go into to much detail as I don't want to put to much spoilers out there. But the ending scene showing a kind of prehistoric early evolved facehugger thing making a early version of an alien doesn't really tie in with the rest of the universe. in Alien, the film is set not to long after prometheus. The pilot/engineer was fossilised in that. implying he'd been there for a long time. now how can the xenomorph we get at the end of prometheus evolve over that short a period into the zenomorph we are all familiar with, (i am presuming thats the route this is going otherwise what's the point of that final scene other than to tie it to the alien franchise, the facehuggers we are used to are certainly alot more efficient and presumably more evolved than that huge thing at the end of prometheus so to get from one to the other I'm presuming evolution would be involved). Secondly, i know alot of the AVP universe has been discounted but i'm pretty sure anyone else thats even vaguely into it accepts/likes the link of the predators hunting the aliens. hence why theres a skull in the pred trophy wall of predator 2. this again kinda implies the xenomorph we're used to has been around alot longer than we think. so how come there is an early less evolved form of it in prometheus which is set a long time after we first see this. lastly I know comics and novel aren't always considered cannon but they have done alot for the universe and this film contradicts alot of what they have built up so Ridley Scott has kinda just given all those other works the middle finger and said "im doing it my way". and lastly a few things that made me feel like it was only done for the money. ridley said he did say that he would have liked to make an 18 certificate but on paper that would have lost him 80million. ok. i can understand that fair enough. but then the last 20mins of the film all seemed geared towards making the sequel and setting up the rest of the new series. which made me feel like a large bit of the film was purely set up to make other movies and more money. ok we know things like this aren't done for free but no one likes it when its that obvious in cinema. Sorely disappointed in this. there was little explanation to the issues that came up and the questions the plot holes left your wondering weren't really interesting enough to make you need an answer or the answers you worked out contradicted with other aspects of the film. I just hope this isn't something like the "lost" tv show were they go into it without any real thought.

@TheNextLV426 Batmans new movie is $250M If Ridley was given that, more time to shoot and release the movie at latter date and also then allowed to either 1) Make 3 hour movie.... 2) Or make it a two part 2 hour one like last Harry Potter..... And maybe tone down the amount of Lindelof DNA in the script then i think we would most certainly be looking at a masterpeice. My biggest gripe was the movie came across like a 3 hour script that at last minute had to be cut down to 2 hours... Imagine if the LOTR Trilogy Script had to be turned into a 3-4 hour single movie instead... it would suffered to some extent also. Like wise if instead of Star Wars EP1-3 they just had to fit all the ideas of those 3 movies into one 2.5 hour one...

1. If Ridley Scott wanted to get back into sci fi without having any baggage directly related to Alien or Blade Runner then he should have (and may have been told no by the studios...) made an entirely new film with no pretensions to a beloved series (like JC did with Avatar.) 2. Something fell apart with Damon and Ridley during the writing process. It is clear they were not on the same page with this story. They filmed a first draft at best. I am no fan of Damon's at all, after Cowboys/Indians and the Star Trek reboot I am convinced he is a charlatan. 3. The edit is all over the place and looks like a rough cut. It does not play like a finished film. (A theory I have is that they have edited many many times with test screenings, dug a hole further with the plot/characters and couldn't get out.) 4. Ridley did not want to make another Alien film in any way, or he was talked out of it by Damon. Again, something major was not hammered out here and it festered all the way through to what was released.

gorman, i still dont think thats the purpose of the black goo. to much had to happen by chance for it to be a well thought out plan by higher beings. someone has to introduce the black goo to an living creature then and they have to to ingest it, then within a short period of ingestion they have to have sex before it starts to mutate them, then this will make a body hugger creature? for higher beings who have mastered bio technology they must surely have a more efficient way of going about this if that is the end goal. I like the theory of the aliens been a cosmic plague that have been around alot longer than we realise and wiped out other alien civilisations. it gives them a more sinister edge when thinking they've been around for eons and still not been stopped. Originally I thought the aliens were controlled by the SJ's. As the SJ ships and a xenos have look kinda similar. So if xenos were controlled by SJ they could be directed to build SJ ships. Humans are only needed to birth the SJ ship building xeno work force so SJ's periodically make human life evolve on worlds then farm us to make aliens to build there constructs. now though I'm not so sure. another theory to put out there. what if what we saw at the end of prometheus was the SJ's attempt to try and create a species that would exterminate the intergalatic plague that is the xenos?

BigDave, i think you've summed it up right there. it does feel like it was heavily edited towards the end. we all now how damon loved to leave us guessing WTF is happening in lost so maybe he asked for alot of the explanations in this to be taken out. i'd still like to believe what we saw wasn't what was intended.
