He has no canon to rely on, it's a totally different/non-existent franchise No one has to expect anything from it unlike we did with Aline as it is far too embued in legacy that already proceeded it Is it plausible that when the dust settles he might now fancy his chances?

Why not? Similar to the Deep Impact/Armaggedon competition back in the 90s. And if he can make a better movie that the audiences want.

Are you kidding? After the HUGE disappointments that The Thing prequel and Prometheus were, It would be awesome if we get out of Dollywood something decent that had the marks of Del Toro and Cameron with no cheesy pop writers... :)

That project has been wrought with problems for decades, but Prometheus may prove that an R-rated film can deliver the $$$$s. That would be a really good thing for MoM. They (Del Toro and Cameron) want to do it as an R-rated period piece, as it should be. But, that terrifies the Studios because it's hard for them to imagine it paying for itself. Cameron is not known for doing things cheaply. ;•) But, if it turns out that the writing on Prometheus is determined to be a detractor, MoM's having its roots in Lovecraft, could be a plus (...Then there's the parallel with ERB and the recent unpleasantness with John Carter (of Mars), however)... I HOPE it will get made (by Del Toro). SOON. But, it won't be green lit and fully on the road to becoming something until AFTER the Promethean dust storm has settled. That's for sure!!

If he can get the budget down to under 100 million I see no reason why he wouldn't have studios knocking down his door.
