I like this post by someone on IMDB...see below. Made perfect sense to me. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1446714/board/thread/200046716 The biochemical (goo) weaponizes organic life. The goo weaponized a worm. The worm "weaponized" Millburn. Nobody can tell you exactly what he turned into, but he essentially turned into a monster whose purpose is to simply kill. A weapon! In the film it was quite clear that catching him wasn't going to happen, especially in such an emergency. When the goo is given to someone/something else, different circumstances bring different results. Before having himself killed, the goo that was in/given to Holloway traveled through his sperm into Shaw. The sperm is what became weaponized since it grew into a fetus. The fetus turned out to be a giant facehugger like monster. The mouth of Facehuggers are modeled after vaginas. But they also have leg-like fingers, a sperm tail, and something tongue-like that "inserts" itself into it's target. A monster born through sexuality. It's all there in the film. People just don't pay attention.

Didn't weaponize Milburn, it killed him and ate the inside of his head and then stayed there. You mean Fifield?

And the engineer at the beginning? Made him rapidly break down and his leg fell off.

The worm did not weaponise Milburn. It left a baby worm in his head did it not, the one that left his head was not the same size as the face raper. Explaining the holes in the other piled up Engineers skulls. Fifield was weaponised when taking a face bath in it with a melted helmet.

Digby@ The goo was the creation of the engineers,it wasnt meant for them. The idea is plausible, but if true it kicks what posters here believe about the derelict right into touch? (The theory that the alien eggs were on the first ship, but got at the engineer that crashed,so the engineers modified it for safer storage?). What is doing my head in now is why the derelict left, crashed, was left there by the other engineers. Also who was going to unload the cargo on the other side? Tough for one engineer by himself by all accounts considering the cargo and considering the numbers on the other ship we encounter in Prometeus. Bizarre really.

David said something like "To create, one first have to destroy". So we agree that the ampules/goo is like a wipe out weapon for civilisations..Shaw asked the Engineer what "we(humans) did wrong", and the Engineer had a suprised look on his face. There are some little clues in the movie, but the ultimate answer, we will get in the sequel I hope.

Perhaps there are different strains of this black liquid, that have all kinds of different intended actions..?

Maybe we should not drink Coke and that is what the film is really all about.

Bizarre really.[/i] It's highly unlikely that the landing party from the Nostromo did a full sweep of the ship. Once they found the eggs and Kane got infected, they got out of there. They saw one Space Jockey, but there may well have been others, piled up dead through out the rest of the ship. Nvidiatroll: I would tend to agree with your line of thinking. There maybe one which simply breaks down DNA, whereas others mutate it, or recombine it with other DNA present in the fluid.

Black goo or xenomorph soup as i like to call it. could be essence de' xenomorph. none of the creatures exposed to the goo tuned into the traditional xenomorph they all seemed to become more like face huggers when we get to see the final product. ie. Cobras and Mr. cuddles the giant face hugger it's like the xenomorphs true genesis. Spill the goo on/in organism and it becomes the beginnings of a new xenomorph family tree.
