Not really answers, but a promise if enough people see it to make a sequel. Personally I think the prequel must be announced at last late 2012, to keep the audience interested. Prometheus wasn't like The Matrix or Lotr, the need to get the sequel done as soon as possible.

LIndelof 'seems to me' like he's trying to tie in THE MURDER OF JESUS with what happened to the ENgineers, 2000 years ago?
No?
Was it the 'walls of Jericho' coming down that sent a shockwave through intergalactic space?
I mean, TWO THOUSAND YEARS AGO - religiously, we're all AWARE of the fukndamentality of 'something faith-based'!
2013 sci-fi horror novels 'Custodian' and 'Tandem' available from Amazon, B&N, iTunes etc...

The obvious connection to 2000 years ago is Jesus and the rise of monotheism. If the Engineers were in contact with us all along then perhaps RS is in fact implying the Roman/Greek God stories were based on them and their creations.
Crucifying Jesus wasn't the event but rather us believing there is more than the Engineers(One True Devine Power) and denying them credit. Maybe they saw us as arrogant children that cursed and wrote off our parents?
Also, perhaps they wanted to hide and control the fact that their is a God that set everything in motion and they are not actually creating anything but just figured out how to harness life. God created and they were clever enough to use what God himself brought into being.
If some of this is the case then it's likely that the Engineers themselves do have alliances and enemies among their own race since the Greek/Roman Gods did.

Yes it's a great ploy to save his job(make sure enough people have seen his film so he is not deemed a terrible writer) and also to make the studios more money from the sequel. Its just a way to sell something. Lindelof has always been about keeping people hanging on and promising them something, while not delivering. When the bottom line of the story is simply THE "bottom line" ie money and keeping people hanging, keep them watching and paying. If people see this film, which enough will, purely on the strength of the original Alien film, then we will have people still clinging to the belief that this mess can all be resolved by the 2nd and 3rd film, unfortunately it will not be. It's all about money not merit.

Yes you've been Lindelof'd!!! this is exactly how people were feeling during Lost. You will soon learn that this man cannot back his word. I am sure you will see a sequel due to the "mystery". Believe me there is no fore thought. But have fun paying for more drivel :)

@Sambojim, That's why I dropped watching Lost after the timer counted to zero and everything exploded. It looks like he learned how to intrigue people with Mike Frosts' Twin Peaks series, but forgot to learn that THERE MUST BE AN IDEA behind that.
Hopefully Riedley will keep him in frames and lead till the end.
P.S.: If the whole mystery is that we should be punished for killing one of those sons/creatures - Jesus, I will be hardly disappointed....it's boring, primitive, and remained unfilmed just cause it's banal.
