lover/hater behaviour

As i have been weaving my way through lots threads trying to unravel this amazing stuff/ideas etc. I notice one thing........ In a positive thread (ie. positive toward the film) there always seems to pop up a number of haters. Whereas in negative threads very few lovers engage. Is this typical human behaviour? Would love some stats on it - not so easy to dig out though I guess. But if a future forum (for the sequel!!!!!!!!!!!) is set up - if you could persuade (after the film is shown) users to tag themselves lover or hater or neither you should be able to track this. Is this interesting? it may not be important - but it would be an interesting physchology experiment, though it may have been done before.

Indeed, some people went seeing this thinking it was going to be just like Alien...after they were told it's not...there is no xenomorph and no queen whatsoever. So, i guess because people didnt see what they wanted in their universe within their imagination, they through a fit about it.

@Otto: agreed. Said it a few times here in the past week. I can however understand some people's vitriol. When you read a review from someone that says 'I don't know why everyone's complaining?! Every question was answered!' It does make you go 'WHAT?!?! Are you JOKING?! Not even Ridley Scott would say this is true!!!'. So a lot of people's reactions are to the blind - almost annoying - love of the film. If someone says 'hey: it's flawed as FUCK...but I loved it', then I for one have zero issues with that. Lord knows there are films I love that are simply diabolical. Prometheus isn't one of those. I neither loved it, nor thought it was diabolical. It was a good film: bordered on great. And i have no desire to derail positive threads with endless amounts of negative shit. In the words of Michael Jackson: 'I'm a lover...not a fighter'. Wait, forget that last bit... Peace y'all.

Sadly yes.... Everyone is going to have a different view... I think that the main thing is that we try and respect someones view even if we dont agree with it... So i dont go to the point of having to get involved in abusive behavour... I have not seen much of that on here, but its rife in many debates in Youtube about certain subjects...

YouTube is the worst. It stinks. Every video - whether it's about war or kittens playing with string - ends with a conversation about racism or how bad someone's spelling is. It's beyond words.

"Haters" - that's a bad choice of word. Some people dislike the film, but that doesn't mean we're out to spread hate. I love film, and I also like to analyse film. When I analyse this film I find lots of flaws, and I will point them out or ask questions. That's not 'Hate" it's criticism, based on observation, interpretation and opinion. I might also add, that some of the people who gush over the film, have glossed over the issues, so perhaps they don't want to get into it on forums either. There were plenty of things I liked about the film, and plenty of things I didn't (and that's after paying to watch it twice in the cinema) . Some people who wanted to excuse the films flaws simply won't acknowledge that there are plot holes. If plot holes don't bother your cinematic enjoyment fine, but don't pretend they don't exist, and some people really put a lot of weight on a film having a good story, above all else, (unless it's just pure escapism - which the Alien franchise never was).

"Is this typical human behavior"? LOL, what? Are you an android? Interesting post though - about tracking it.

what hadleys hope said...'hater' is a bad choice of word. 'Hater' is a word ppl associate with racism. There are some individuals though who address artists (like Scott and lindelof) in ways that might qualify to the use of the word.

@Hadley's: Sure there are true and fair critics on here, like yourself. But the OP is talking about the ones that just go around saying "it was dreadful", "it sucked", etc., on everyone's threads without spending one ATP molecule of energy in actually critically telling us WHY, as if they didn't even see the movie, or, once they saw it wasn't AvP3, they dismissed it as "boring" because they had to actually think about it, therefore they left "mad" and "hating"... THAT'S the point...

Likely the people who were dissatisfied with this movie (they have that right) are trying to understand those who thought this film lived up to its expectation. An Internet discussion forum, by nature, will be filled with subjective opinions, both good and bad. If you feel personally assaulted because you enjoyed the film and someone else didn't ... I don't know.. Maybe don't use the Internet, or start a fan club. Trust me none of the so called "haters" wanted this film to fail in their eyes... That's why the dissatisfied are so disenfranchised. .. Nothing to take personally.

I guess it's the same reason why people troll the discussions on political news sites that they don't like, for example, check out the discussions on Huffington Post or MSNBC, it's mostly conservatives coming over to try to ruin the liberals party. But how often do you see people trolling the enemy discussion board to say "you know, I normally don't agree with you, but in this case you're right?" That never happens.
