Analizing David

During the first exploration of the temple, I couldn't help but feeling that Elizabeth and Holloway were treating David as if he was a child who was wandering off during a field trip ("Don't touch anything", "David, we are leaving!!!"). And because of the later development of the story, I wonder if this is not a case of oedipal attachment where a child kills the father to "marry" his mother. David even keeps Elizabeth's crucifix in his utility bag.. What puzzles me the fact that Elizabeth asks him where her crucifix is. Why would she assume that he has it on him...

Because he was the last person to see it when he took the crucifix off of her... I guess. Why he had it with him at the time, no clue how she would guess that.

I feel David had developed affection for Shaw but was following orders given by Weyland to infect someone and put them in stasis. Holloway's rapid degeneration did not allow this. But as luck had it Shaw was infected and impregnated. David wanted to put her in stasis but she took matters into her own hands before this could happen.

Thought this was cool, Fassbender talks about David and Shaw having a love affair LOL. "Movies.com: Last one. I’ve watched a few of your interviews from the London press junket, where you are telling journalists that David poisons Dr. Holloway (Logan Marshall-Green) because you’d like to see a romance between David and Dr. Shaw (Noomi Rapace) in the sequel. MF: [Laughs] That’s great! I love that. Yeah, I started that rumor single-handedly. Noomi was telling me this morning, “You know, everybody is asking me about this love affair.” [Laughs]" Link-->Michael Fassbender, on 'Prometheus

@Vanillacat You are right, it can be speculated that that is what happened in the film, but what if you analyze what happened at a deeper level... However, what still baffles me is the fact that everybody assumes that all the urns had the same stuff in them (the so called "black goo") That doesn't make too much sense to me... and to keep all those urns unguarded, and these urns coming in different sizes...why... The experiment conducted by David following Weyland orders makes no sense if you don't give at least a clue of what they know about that susbtance, and I don't think they know much

I honestly believe David is not sinister in anyway, I think he is very honest due to not having human feelings. Before he infects Holloway he asks him how far he would go to find the answers, so when Holloway replies saying pretty much anything then David computes that as an ok to infect him with the goo as he would do anything! Also I think the twist in the film might be that David told the live Engineer in his own language to kill Weyland and attack them to get rid of Weylands legacy as he is a bad guy! Throughout the film you get the impression that David has a slight liking to Shaw so I think he wanted her to live through the experience for the bigger picture.

@MegaBeast; That is probably because Shaw is the only person that treats him kindly. Did you notice David's face when Holloway said "because you are not a real boy" when David said "no ty" to the Champagne?? He looked crestfallen. David is very self aware, he styles his hair and emulates his idol Laurence of Arabia, he is not a mindless machine.

the line "David, we are LEAVING!!" is a throwback to Aliens, when the marines find the colonists and all hell breaks loose. Hicks shouts "Drake, we are LEAVING!!"

"The trick is not minding that it hurts" I think David developed emotions, maybe even a "soul," and his drive to kill Charlie was more human than conspiracy - he was jealous.
