Oh thank Godzilla! The US Prometheus release had less Plot Holes!

To start, most of what people are calling 'plot holes' aren't actually such.... 'plot holes' by defintion of the term, have to be pivitol points in the story that DEFY LOGIC and/or have to be COMPLETELY IGNORED all together in that particular instance to allow the story to make it from point A to B successfully.... Most of the so-called "plot holes" of 'Prometheus' aren't relevant to the immediate purpose of the story and are really just 'annoyances' to our desire to understand and know every little tid bit of every little detail...... and most are easy-as-hell to figure out........but aren't necessary. If 'Prometheus' has "plot holes" (which it does has a few minor ones) that ruin the flick for ya, then go back and get pissed about all your favorite movies throughout cinema history (Too many to name)...... Because even the the source material didn't (and still hasn't) explained shit..... origin of cargo eggs, derelict Juggernauts purpose, Xenomorph explained, etc.... and, despite contrary belief, it was never Prometheus's job to explain those... NOR WAS IT PROMISED that Prometheus would..... Bottom line: Prometheus was a solid movie .....with minor flaws... 1) Horrible soundtrack? - NO.... not what I wanted though. 2) Plot Holes? - Not as many, nor as large as some might insist, BUT nothing that can't be explained with a little logic and even yet doesn't make any 'over-analytical' prick not able to track how the story made it to the ending. 3) Characters Development? - If they were relevant to the plot, they had a successful arc. If they were expendable to the story, then not so much....writing 101 On a scale of 1-10? - Fuck a scale..... I enjoyed the movie from 'fade-in' to closing credits (and I've seen it twice)..... and I "got it". A new door to a tangent of the 'Alien' franchise has been opened now and the possibilties are exciting and endless! WE really don't need all the answers, my fellows fan-boys....at least not the ones you've been clamoring for over 30 years for.... but congrats though! you've now become voices of common intial reactions to science fiction that doesn't always meet your expectations......no worries though, in due time you'll be riding the 'Prometheus' dick in the near future sooner than you think..... just like you did with the ill-received intial viewings of 'Alien' & 'Blade Runner'..... FYI, they too were riddled with the same questions and critizisms that you have for 'Prometheus'.... but now they're your standard. UPDATED: and THIS, of course, has my spidey-sense tingling

lol......awesome post. I totally agree with you that the revisionism we saw with "Alien" and "Bladerunner" will also happen with this movie. Most of the supposed "plot-holes" people keep harping on about, really aren't holes to begin with. In any event, what's controversial within the fan community now, will be considered a stand-out title, in time.

[SPOLER ALERT] I'm going to see it again this weekend! I can't tell you how spectacular the IMAX 3D was and can't watch it any other way. Scott and everyone else has always said it's not a prequel, but a lot of yahoos out here are trying to make it that and invent holes. It's a developing story. People need to enjoy what was made and wait for the next film to fill in more blanks. Info was given as promised but no one said it would have all the questions answered. -It's obvious a Queen Xeno is not in this film making eggs folks have to be patient and not cry over the Aliens film difference. It's only logical the virus/organism/xeno/whatever it is going to encounter another being that lays eggs in the next film. -Since there are no subtitles we don't know what David 8 said to the Engineer. He was in hyper sleep so I don't think he was in a big hurry to go destroy Earth, to be honest. But once he woke up and talked to David 8 he sure was pissed. But who knows what they will write in the next story. I know 9 out of 10 films made don't come close to being this good. People are acting like it was a complete dead pan awful-fest like Star Wars Episode I: Phantom Menace. I think Ridley just pushed Lucas into permenant retirment with this one.

You also make some valid points about the initial responses to ridleys first sc-fi films and they took some time to be considered the masterpieces they are now reputed to be. On both occasions on the alien, and blade runner, front i loved them from the onset the week they were released. Prometheus i like a lot but i still hope there's a longer cut in the offing and i cant deny there are some issues i have with exposition and Character details but overall a terrific sc-fi film . It to may go down the same historical path of both those sc -fi legendary greats.

@NateBlitz 1) Who exactly are you addressing and why? 2) You write like a teenage girl; are you a teenage girl? 3) The reason why the film may appear to have minimal plot holes is because said plot holes have been discussed to death in numerous threads on this very website. Had you known nothing about the movie prior to seeing it, you'd probably be scratching your head for sometime afterwards.

@McFilmStar (if that's really your name)........ Assumptions galore! 1) Do I have to be addressing anybody specifically? 2) Does it turn you on to think I'm a teenage girl? ...whatever floats your boat, baby. 3) You may have a point about the plot holes being "dicussed to death" though.....and perhaps that's why to a certain degree I was able to keep them in mind while watching them and then overcome their ridiculousness.... PS. don't hate me cuz my "...." are fabulous.

I must admit, after seeing for the first I was feeling dissappointed and a bit deflated due to it not meeting my lofty expectations or answering some of my questions. However, after mulling it over for the last 6 days I have come to realise that I was wrong and I love the fact iy has been left so open....it's exciting - it's almost like being back before Prometheus was released and we're coming up with loads of different theories. Seing it agin in a couple of days - I'll be super focussed on the temple / head room and truing to gleen as much as possible from those xeno murals - curiouser and curiouser.....

I dont think there were any plot holes. It was done in the same theme as the Alien Movie. Its not a film to explain, its a film to explore

I disagree with you about plot holes... some are very very contrived... They don't ruin the film on repeat viewing, but wow, do they feel like an insult on first viewing "You expect me to buy into / ignore this ?" was what I was thinking... Oh, so Vickers is going to have sex offscreen with Janek now... leaving the bridge completely unattended while Milburn and Fifield die.... How did they get lost by the way? Fifield has read outs from the probes he released, and did you not notice when Janek asks them for their position, that the 3D map is already showing their locator beacons (rotating yellow squares, one with a "M" over it and one with an "F". ) One would have thought that this would be something they'd check (as well as doing a radio check in and head count as people were getting ready to get back to the ship before the storm hits.) Shaw and Holloway leading the away team didn't do a head count, neither did Jackson, who claims to be responsible for away team security, and the Captain doesn't do a head count until people are back on the ship. That IS a plot hole. Just like Weyland's MedPod being in Vickers lifeboat. Makes no sense except that if it were in Weylands lifeboat, Shaw would never have seen it, would never have used it for the C-section, and couldn't have set her little 'offspring' to attack the Space Jockey, before she gets out of the lifeboat, and finds, conveniently intact and upright, a quad bike, waiting for someone to drive it back to Space Jockey's ship to collect her cross, which David (for NO reason at all has in his utility belt, even though we say him put it into a plastic container in the ships medical bay - which was destroyed in the kamikaze attack). Some people don't notice or question such things, but they bug me. It says the writer wrote an opening, and a closing, and jammed in some route in between without a thought for consistency, character or believability. Are there any comparable issues with Alien or Aliens? I don't recall getting that "WTF" feeling during that film. Maybe I've missed it. Feel free to point it out if you have one.
