MemberOvomorphJun-10-2012 4:08 PMI noticed David eating during his two year wander of boredom (do robots get bored?) and wondered why he bothered TO eat. Ash ate because he had to look human, but David didn't have that issue.
I know David can smell(didn't seem to like the scent of the goo in the temple), therefore taste, but why eat if he doesn't need to eat?
I doubt dealing with the catheter is much fun...just saying.
Oh, and another question...Would David be completely anatomically correct? I mean...would he be functional as a male? I know robots don't "feel" desire, but if someone were to proposition him...just curious if he could respond.

MemberOvomorphJun-10-2012 5:06 PMUh, I care, thanks. I just wanted to know because I'm curious.

MemberOvomorphJun-10-2012 5:08 PMEven an android would need some sort of energy replenishment over a two year journey. Just as humans break down food to provide energy, David would also reasonably have similar requirements. He's not built like the Terminator or Commander Data after all, so he probably wouldn't plug himself into a wall outlet. Previously both Bishop and Ash sat down at the dinner table with the crew, although they weren't shown eating.

MemberOvomorphJun-10-2012 5:23 PMAccording to Xenopedia, androids charge via traditional means (plug-in, for lack of a better term).
My theory:
He is eating a special substance. Not food, but rather some form of lubricant or coolant. If you notice clearly by his severed head on the neck, you can see the white, tapioca-like beads that he was seen eating prior. We see all damaged androids leak a similar substance in other Alien movies, as well. So either:
- It's a substance vital to the machine's operation.
Or
- Pulling off his head ruptured the chamber food is stored in before it is catheter'd away.
Either way, it was still a good learning opportunity for David*, to better behave like an actual human, and further pull him out from the uncanny valley. If its the first case, then it's a good way to kill two birds with one stone. If its the second, then it's still a good learning opportunity regardless.
Possibly, it might also be him checking the freshness of the ship's food stock.
*It seems like the androids are not traditionally programmed, per se, but rather are raised and learn through experience, like the HAL 9000 series in 2001: ASO.

MemberOvomorphJun-18-2012 3:45 AMThe real question is:
What is Michael Fassbender eating because it looks damn delicious.
I hope it's coconut tapioca pudding because it's mouthsex:
