She had to be successful destroying the engineers and their homeworld if the earth still exists in the later Alien films. So by the time of "Alien" are the engineers extinct?

who knows what the modern day Engineers are like. the ones on lv-223 are 2000 years old. maybe theyre all extinct or just dont know or care about earth anymore. maybe theyre just watching and waiting to see if their Xenos wipe us out.

Although the earth is still around in ALIEN, Aliens, and the others that doesn't mean that Shaw destroyed the Engineers. We can assume that her and David are going to find the Engineers home planet and probably encounter more Engineers ( I say encounter because "people" you meet don't tear off androids heads and crush rib cages with a palm strike lol). Earth may still be in existence because they just haven't gotten around to wiping us out. Evidence leads us to the possibility that the Engineers probably have very long life spans unless killed by unconventional means, say a squid body hugger, or black goop mutation, or some xeno we haven't seen. Even if we are to take into consideration that suspended animation could keep an organism in status for 2000 years, there would have to be some degree of cellular degradation over the long a time and the Engineer didn't appear to be degraded at all. So they most likely have life spans of at least several hundred years under normal conditions. So with a life span of several centuries they just might not be in a hurry to wipe us out and will do it a their leisure at this point in the story line. Of course this theory could all be excellent material for Prometheus 3, which could take place after Alien Resurrection or even after Aliens or Alien 3 if Scott chose to ignore the films following the aforementioned. Imagine, Prometheus 2 taking place right after the events of Prometheus and Prometheus 3 taking place after say Aliens for example and having the Engineers returning to earth to finish what they started, pun intended.

Shaw didn't go there to destroy there world... She went their for answers... Even if that was the case, wtf would she destroy their world with? David's HEAD?! Yeah, don't get me wrong. The Engineer domed Weyland with it, but... I don't think it'd work good on a planet.
