If you notice when the Prometheus reaches "Destination Threshold" and begins to slow down, David enters the Bridge. It is dark and powered down. He walks over to the controls and sticks his finger in his mouth, then presses a button. The whole Bridge powers up and comes to life. Later when David is examining an ampule in his lab, he places a droplet of black goo on his finger. The closeup shot shows his finger is branded with a tiny Weyland logo as part of his fingerprint. I propose that his finger is designed to be a sort of ignition key. Thoughts?

at the time, I took it as some kind of lock that keys off DNA (but now that I'm realizing David doesn't have any...duh!), I'm thinking he has some other chemical in his saliva that the lock is tuned to

Or he could be completing a wireless security circuit... fun stuff.

David definitely could have some chemical signature that when combined with his unique branded finger print it initiates the start up sequence. Just my two cents.

The Weyland site says "The Weyland-stamped fingerprint lets you know that each David 8 cybernetic individual comes from The Company you know and trust." I wouldn't call it stupid if gets the ship ready for landing. It sort of ties into the theme of Big Things have snall beginnings.
