Jesus Christ was a Engineer

Ridley then stated that when this engineer was sent down to earth he was also crucified. Possibly the humans were fed up with all these tips on how to grow and they didn't like the idea of a being coming to their "home" telling them what to do, so they crucified the engineer. This could have royally pissed off the engineer race. If this is true it shows that the engineer race did care for man kind and wanted the best for us, until something we have yet to figured out occurred, which caused the engineers to have a deep hatred for mankind. Remember this is not something i have thought up of entirely, Ridley Scott said it himself, hinting towards the fact that Jesus himself was an engineer..... Any thoughts?

The idea of this has been floating around, I only found out about it about 2 days before I saw the movie though..............

"Is it dead this time?" "I dunno, poke it with this stick and see."

Well, I for one hate that idea... If that is where this story is going than I'm done with it...(we all remember how much the second and third matrix movies sucked!) I will decide to believe in a different path for the story to take...please don't take this saga down that path!

I think Ridley Scott and Damon Lindelof are all about eliciting provocative ideas and connections in the minds of their audience, many of which, are actually red herrings. We're never going to get complete chapter and verse about the Engineers. There's no way they could end up being anything other than less interesting if Scott provided a full picture.
The conversations on this board, are exactly the results they are looking for in the audience.
loseyournameJune 12, 2012
He didn't say that. He said something along the lines of that would be a cool idea when the questioner brought it up. He mentioned Romans running around with swords and shields and the engineers sending someone to stop the madness and him getting crucified.
That doesn't really hold up to ten seconds of scrutiny when you think of what Jesus actually did, though. He never went to Rome, or to any of the other major civilizations of the era that started wars and conquered people. He seemed content to let them do their thing and didn't care. He appeared to a tiny, obscure tribe in the desert, one of hundreds that had been conquered, who weren't really giving anyone trouble, to tell them they were practicing monotheism all wrong, when in the bigger picture, they were pretty much the only ones practicing it at all. If the engineers really wanted to see a more peaceful, loving mankind, it's hard to believe they would have sent a guy into the desert to reform Judaism, as insignificant as it was to the larger world.

You think Ridley Scott is going to actually spoonfed you the plot of the sequel just because you ask?
do you recall THIS phrase?
"Did IQ's drop sharply while I was away?"
ParkerNJune 12, 2012
@loseyourname In the article i read it never once mentioned that it would be cool if someone asked that question, and sure Jesus never actually went to Rome, but Rome offiliated with rome. In the article i read it clearly said that Ridley said "they sent an emissary down to see if they could stop it," then he said "guess what?... they crucified him.." Either way I'm not getting into a Christianity debate, maybe it could be looked at both yours and my point of view, but i believe Jesus Christ, in Ridley's and Damon's whole idea with prometheus has some sort of "fit in" I don't know if it would appeal to me or not, but we don't know if it would even go into that depth of the story of the engineers and everything having to do with them.

It's a real possiblility but i don't think that's what they're going for
ParkerNJune 12, 2012
@Hadley's Hope i would definitely agree, no doubt i think this would go along with everything having to do with the engineers, but they most likely won't go into this kind of detail in the sequel..
ParkerNJune 12, 2012
@Queens Elite Guard I would agree, no doubt thats not what there going for and i believe they might hint towards it in the sequel but its not there prominent focus, the focus is towards why they created humans, and why the now want to destroy humans...

I guess it depends on how it ultimately is written.
I thought it was interesting that the way the Engineer confrontation scene flows, it doesn't have the Engineer attacking anyone until after Shaw is hit by one of Weyland's security goons, hit hard when she is clearly injured. A pretty clear example of human brutality and avarice (on the part of Weyland who orders the beating).
In the context of the "Jesus Hypothesis", if you wanted to eradicate a species because you determined that they were too violent and unwilling to grow and become enlightened (say they killed one of your messengers). And were then faced with, upon being awakened from your hypersleep, the brutal fact that they haven't changed much for the better in millennia. That they are for the most part still greedy, self focused, and brutal. Well, I'd assume it would only strengthen your conviction to improve the universe by removing such a blight from the universe as Homo sapiens
Perhaps waking up to find, what you perceive, to be the greatest potential threat to harmony in the universe has advanced sufficiently enough to gain access to your military facilities, on a distant backwater world, might make you go a bit crazy too, or more likely act with swiftness and great efficiency.
The xenomorph species, while dangerous are not driven by the complexities of human culture and history. The entire xeno life cycle is predictable, and controllable, to some extent. They really aren't that intelligent, and are no more horrific than any other plague. A creature who's "structural perfection is matched only by it's hostility." is dangerous, but isn't seeking to become a god.
Humans, on the other hand, have all the potential of the Engineers, in fact they share a genome, but instead of being driven by a greater sense of purpose, they seem ruled by greed, petty grievances, the quest for power, and often driven by cruelty and avarice. The Engineer's reaction in that context is understandable. He is not cruel in his dispatching of the humans, he swiftly kills them all, with the efficiency of a animal breeder culling a herd, or eliminating unhealthy stock.
After seeing how the human weapons had no effect on him, it was clear he didn't not attack so swiftly out of fear. There is probably little to fear from humans in their present state of development, but their potential, and their refusal to grow and learn, make them truly dangerous in the grander vision.
God is dead, or at least will be if the humans have anything to say about it. I don't think it's merely coincidence that Weyland quotes from Nietchze, the rise of the Übermensch will be the inevitable downfall of the old gods. Something the Engineers simply could not permit.
If they use the Jesus thing as a device to explore the ideas and consequences of humanity moving beyond old religious and moral constructs, moving beyond the concepts of good and evil, seeking to establish for themselves a purpose, that may not be the purpose of their old gods. Then I think I'd be okay with watching that.
In the end the Titans, were overthrown by their children, their offspring, members of their own divine genome.

what? Jesus was a blue BODY BUILDING giant?
LOL
2013 sci-fi horror novels 'Custodian' and 'Tandem' available from Amazon, B&N, iTunes etc...

SvanyaJune 12, 2012
@FreePlanet; Yes, you would think someone would have noticed Jesus was an 8ft tall, statue man.
Bishop is Bae <3
ParkerNJune 12, 2012
@xenotaph some very solid points made their, possibly if their was an engineer/jesus it was to try to convince that the engineer race (something of that area) are your masters, and that all there is to it, theres no other religions, just us.... (possibly others involved that we have yet to figure out) From that the humans get angry and punish the emissary engineer by crucifying him. Just a reminder not all my thoughts on all these prometheus topics have been finalized, I'm still clearing up what i believe and changing beliefs and adding to it...
CerynJreyJune 12, 2012
Probably lot more believable than Jesus walked on water, rose from the dead, never had sex with that prostitute that followed him around, multiplied a fish and some bread into LOTS of fish and bread, etc etc.
But 8 ft tall giant, no, that's weird.
Although, the whole- virgin/immaculate birth thing DOES ring a bell...
maybe an Engineer/Human hyrbid?
Doesn't some "angel" come down and tell Mary that God is gonna put a baby in her belly (which would freak out a normal person *cough Shaw cough*) ?

Kane77June 12, 2012
Jesus Christ has in fact nothing to do with Prometheus and Sci-Fi.
But its interesting that that ancient astronaut bullsh.it popped up since the early 70ies together with mainstream pseudo-esoteric UFO / alien stuff, many young people get confused and maybe nevertheless kinda ´inspired´ because it just kicks the uneducated minds.
take care.
cheers

I like this interpretation that jesus was an alien engineer very much!
Its not LESS believable then the story millions of people CHOOSE to believe since hundreds of years!
Hundreds of years mind-raping makes it hard to THINK ABOUT ALTERNATIVE POSSIBILITIES.
I personally am not sure if jesus ever existed.
Only the bible talks about him, and the people who wrote about him EVEN NEVER MET HIM as they were born decades AFTER HIS DEATH.
And as the Jesus-Story does have TO MANY attributes that already OTHER myth persons (like Osiris in egyptian myth) have (like born from a virgin, was crucified, stand up from dead after 3 days etc) its believable to me that this the jesus-story is just a FAIRYTALE.
Mind-raping is very effecitve, so its hard to face the truth...

GavinJune 12, 2012
@ Frantz - you are correct, but I heard that most historians claim he had a God complex.

FrantzJune 12, 2012
Most modern historians agree that Jesus existed and was a Jewish teacher from Galilee in Roman Judaea, who was baptized by John the Baptist, and was crucified in Jerusalem on the orders of the Roman Prefect, Pontius Pilate.Scholars have offered competing descriptions and portraits of Jesus, which at times share a number of overlapping attributes, such as a rabbi, a charismatic healer, the leader of an apocalyptic movement, a self-described Messiah, a sage and philosopher, or a social reformer who preached of the "Kingdom of God" as a means for personal and egalitarian social transformation. Scholars have correlated the New Testament accounts with non-Christian historical records to arrive at an estimated chronology of Jesus' life
Separate non-Christian sources used to establish the historical existence of Jesus include the works of 1st century Roman historians Josephus and Tacitus. Josephus scholar Louis H. Feldman has stated that "few have doubted the genuineness" of Josephus' reference to Jesus in Antiquities 20, 9, 1 and it is only disputed by a small number of scholars. Bart D. Ehrman states that the existence of Jesus and his crucifixion by the Romans is attested to by a wide range of sources, including Josephus and Tacitus
Although a very small number of modern scholars argue that Jesus never existed, that view is a distinct minority and most scholars consider theories that Jesus' existence was a Christian invention as implausible
Now i think that only Dan Brown can mix togheter Jesus with the Engineers :p and people should stop to gather historical facts from movie plots :p

FrantzJune 12, 2012
I had always thought that Jesus was someone who had a post mortem experience ...so he was able to have a clear view about what is right and what is wrong , the meaning of life etc .... also i think that many of his words where bad interpretated (like " im the son of God" ...well everyone is a son of God ...) , so that make of him a real "human" hero that gave the world an enermous benefit with one basic message " dont make bad things in life because you will have an eternity to have remorses about them " .
Anyway returning to the movie ....Lindeloff said clearly that in the movie we see the reason WHY Engineers are angry with humans . And ive yet to find this ...

The "Jesus was an Alien" thing was done before. Arthur C. Clarke even touched on it in Rendezvous with Rama with a newer sect of Christianity.
