I found this VERY INTRIGUING as I did and continue to do a ton of research on this movie that I love so much. Guys all the answers are all there right in front of us, they just have to be! So I went to the www.whatis101112.com link that most of you hopefully know about. It was at the very end of the movie for those of you who don't. Anyway it has some text to the left that reads: Thus Spoke Zarathustra: A Book for All and None is a philosophical novel by German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche, composed in four parts between 1883 and 1885. Much of the work deals with ideas such as the "eternal recurrence of the same", the parable on the "death of God", and the "prophecy" of the Übermensch, which were first introduced in The Gay Science. So of course I did more research and look at what I came upon!!!!!!!! Frequently Nietzsche has his characters say not what they would say in real life, but instead reveal what he thinks are their secret feelings. In other words, he puts his analysis of their motives into their mouths. Would a real monk likely say that he has stopped loving man? Why would Nietzsche feel justified in saying that he has? ENJOY guys! We just go a lot closer to the truth!

Man this is falling into Battlestar Galactica Territory with the Nietzsche type talk: "This has all happened before and will all happen again". Are there no original sci-fi anymore?? Speaking of which, I read that Promethus mirrors an old Dr.Who episode called "The Daemons"

At the site there's a video with Weyland. Are you able to understand what he says?

Well my point is. What if the words the characters say goes along with "has his characters say not what they would say in real life, but instead reveal what he thinks are their secret feelings. In other words, he puts his analysis of their motives into their mouths" So therefore possibly not one single character in the movie hides what they're thinking at all, which would explain why some characters are so straight forward.

So therefore possibly not one single character in the movie hides what they're thinking at all, David seems pretty good at it when he wants to be. his use of double meaning phrases provides some black humour in the film.

maybe this ´interpretation´ works for some of Davids or Weylands dialogues but not for the whole movie. You cant compare this movie to Nietzsche´s ´Also sprach Zarathustra´.

Or, maybe the script "seemed" crappy because it was, in fact, quite crappy.

Never liked Nietzsche. Still don't... "One thing is what I write. Another thing is what I actually believe in" Ecce Homo that pretty much sums Nietzsche up. :p

This thread needs more views, that book might contain the answers for this movie. I made some research about this "Thus Spoke Zarathustra" book and stumbled upon this on wikipedia. Nietzsche injects myriad ideas into the book, but there are a few recurring themes. The overman (Übermensch), a self-mastered individual who has achieved his full power, is an almost omnipresent idea in Thus Spoke Zarathustra. Man as a race is merely a bridge between animals and the overman. Nietzsche also makes a point that the overman is not an end result for a person, but more the journey toward self-mastery. That idea that man is only a bridge between animal and the last stage of evolution (overman) is also present in 2001. Hell, you can even say the whole movie was about that. As my friend David1 showed us in his thread about Prometheus and 2001, there are alot of homages to that movie and its no secret that Ridley is a fan of 2001.

The more interesting the discussion, the more posts, thus more views a thread will get. Threads will live and die upon their own merits. THIS is a cool thread. Support it by bringing more into the discussion bit by bit.

So while doing further research this is what I found out when typing the name of the book. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cWnmCu3U09w Never knew what it was called till now. The name for the song is "Also Sprach Zarathustra". There is no denying now that there is a relation between Prometheus and 2001.
