Proof that David8 has real emotion/humanity?

for me, I believe that he has developed human emotions and behaviour, and this is shown in the fact that not only does he idolise lawrence of arabia, but he dyes his hair and copies his characteristics in order to behave like him. this shows that he has a grasp of a very human concept; identity.
or mabye i'm just looking too deeply into it ;)
anyone got any other clues that point to this?

Well when Weyland said he has no soul you see David's expression change slightly, to a small frown. Also, when Holloway says "Right, because you are not a real boy" (when David declines his offer of Champagne), his face also changes in the same way. I took that to mean David 100% feels emotion, because there is no way a regular robot would even flinch at those statements.

It would depend on what Ridley's view of the mechanism of developing AI is... for us, we have a "program" that generates a framework (and also perhaps guides 'archetype personalities') in which the connections formed by our brains based on our experieces results in who we are. It would depend on if David's mind even operates on such connections- the website kind of confirms this by refering to his number of neurons... although who knows if they come from the factory with predetermined connections or not. If not, or if there were just a certain level given from the factory, then they would develop slightly different from eachother. I, personally, believe that given the subtle hints in the movie that he does have some sort of machine emotion.

@svanya..... I really like your thinking :)
@daniel machine emotion sounds like the best way to describe him

@maiafay OMG you just made that scene 10x more creepy XD never noticed that he was smiling while he was doing it 0__0

The hardening of his face when Weyland claims David doesn't have a soul is a key indication that David does have emotions - or the machine equivalent. The irritation every time Holloway opens his mouth is also suspect.
And I think David only looked at Elizabeth's dreams. Through his visor, you can see him smile when he interfaces, as if he can't wait to peek in her head. It's creepy and sweet.

LOL, you have to really look closely during that scene. I only caught it my second time around.

I think Bishop and call were totally unbelivable as robots .... Ash was more realistic and David even more .
BTW i think are totally different from the replicants of Bladerunner

to be honest, androids of David 8's sophisticated beyond the confines that were initially created. The creator often loses control and the unexpected will occur. David 8 is indeed an evolving artificial person. I watched very closely his questions to the crew and his reactions that went was beyond mere acknowledgement... Great topic.

Not only do I think DAVID might be a Replicant, I think Meredith Vickers is one as well. While it is true that she called Peter Weyland "father", Weyland looks 100 which means he must have fathered her around 70. But she may be no more a daughter to him than David is a son ("or the closest thing I've got to a son"). She seems to want nothing to do with humans until the captain asks her "are you an Android?" causing her to reply "meet me in my room in 10 minutes" almost as if she is trying to conceal the fact.

wow, if vickers is a robot i'll eat my hat. i mean, i thought b4 the movie came out that she was... but after watching the movie i doubt it. too much emotion.

oh yeah, there is also the seen when he is talking to charlie at the pool table, and charlie says "well its good you can't be disappointed" or something to that affect. David's expression changes as if he is peeved off at this statement, then immediately as charlie is eagerly awaiting the pool ball to return to him from bouncing off the table bumpers, david stops it and grabs it. in doing so "disappoints" charlie by interfering with his little pool ball game... :o) "spiteful" dont ya think???

I vaguely recall that Ridley did say something in the 80`s about Blade Runner being the world that the crew of the Nostromo had left behind. There is the obvious use of the Environ/Purge monitor used in both films, Gafs spinner has this and it is also seen on the Nostromo flight deck. Maybe that was just Ridley liking the effect though rather than a link between the two worlds.
