MemberOvomorphJune 28, 20122686 Views16 RepliesOk, this is such an awesome piece that it deserves it's own thread.
On it's way to be the centerpiece of my collection very soon! A 1:1 scale replica of a weathered Engineer Helmet!

Careful!! If you cut it open, i hear those things can get messy...maybe put it in a fish-tank before you electrocute it, if there's still a head inside.

It's from an FX company called Golden Armor. I'm pretty sure they've only made the one prototype and I'm sure a line is forming for completed versions. By completed I mean painted and all. That's the only way I can go as I can't paint for sh*t.
They have 2 versions, one is the "clean" version like the one I posted in my collection thread and the other is the weathered version shown here. I think I might get a "clean" version as well but I'm not sure. I thought weathered was the way to go.
They are selling a "kit" right now on ebay which consists of the raw pull from the mold and the 2 lenses. Here's a link to the BIN auction.
It's gonna take a bit as it will have to be pulled, prepped and painted but it'll obviously be well worth the wait.
Anyone have any ideas as to what I should do for a display? I half thought about getting one of those vacu-seal bags like Shaw and Ford put the head in to take it back to the Prometheus but that would take away instead of enhancing the display. Building a replica of the examination table is obviously out of the question. Hmmmm...

And yes, there is a hole in the bottom so you can put it on. Doesn't look like it would be too comfortable though.
I'm going to try to get a company to do a sculpt of the severed head itself as that is one of my favorite FX/scenes in cinema history. Would be mighty sweet. And unfortunately mighty expensive.
I'm sure plenty of busts and figures will be coming down the pike soon though.
That's one thing that has bugged the hell out of me. Why wait until 3 months before the film was released to get NECA working on the figures??? Why not have some stuff ready for the release??? Seems a better way to make money and cash in on the hype of the film to me. I know there's a built in audience who will wait to buy this stuff but it seems they could cash in on the people who don't always buy figures and stuff if they released them with the film. Gues it will coincide with the dvd release which sucks.

Remember that's just for the kit not the painted/completed version. I'm going with the completed version so, yeah, definitely pricey. By looking at the pics it seems well worth it to me. 1:1 scale props aren't cheap. I've spent more on items I like less than this before.
Also note that they are taking best offers for the kit. It seems they kind of judge the market with the first few then sell them according to the offers they recieve.
A little post script...I had a 1/6 figure I bought a few years ago for $150 that I just sold for $1200. That's the reason I'm throwing down the cash for this. It's not going to take the whole $1200 and I like this MUCH better than what I sold.

Engineering,
You have unparalled dedication to the collectibles of this movie. I had done similar with Gears of War stuff, but you have even surpassed me as a collector. Kudos. I can't wait to see it in your collection.

That's a nice way of putting it. I call it obsession lol.
Seriously, I do this quite a bit. I get obsessed, buy tons of stuff then move on to the next thing. Usually I sell most of what I buy to fund the new obsession only keeping the pieces that are really special to me. At that point value really does go out the window for me and I keep what I like. I do pretty much have a one car garage full of stuff I've collected. Not counting what I display.
I really hope this and my collection thread doesn't come off as bragging or anything like that. I really just enjoy sharing my passion/obsession with you guys. I love to look at other people's collections as well. Ad I've seen ones that put mine to absolute shame so I don't feel too bad.
This is a piece I absolutely have to have though. The Space Jockey in Alien really hit me like nothing else I'd ever seen in cinema. It's always been my favorite part of the Alien series and I feel Scott really did it justice and got it right in Prometheus. So this piece, as we say in the collector world, is my grail.
