MemberOvomorphJul-06-2012 9:13 AMVery nice article.
I can't help but feel however that THIS guy started it all. A lot of people were passing this journal around online social media shortly after the film came out (even Damon Lindeloff tweeted it!) and it seems to have trickled down and influenced a lot of other people to write their own.
But still: the 'what culture' piece is another nice article.

MemberOvomorphJul-06-2012 9:28 AMHi. I never saw that article but checked it out. Frankly I don't like it because I dont like the SPACE JESUS theory! Neither does this author of WhatCulture by the sounds of it.
I love that this whatculture dude ties it into being about Norse myth though (with the eitr). Works great! I never noticed and I LOVE Norse myth!
Hey BrightonRock, isn't the WC author's wordpress showing a quote from Brighton Rock the book?

Uncertainty is the only certainty there is, and knowing how to live with insecurity is the only security.

MemberOvomorphJul-06-2012 2:30 PMWell those who are delicate with there belief in Christianity are probably going to feel ofended. . I being Catholic would love to see Ridleys take on this subject. It is the perfect setting to bring both theorys of evolution and creation to the front stage.

MemberOvomorphJul-07-2012 2:08 AMSo you know the myth one is part 2 of a series of 3. Part 3 is not yet out yet, but part 1 is here:

MemberOvomorphJul-07-2012 7:42 AMAll,
Did anyone else see the parallels between Prometheus and His Dark Materials by Phil Pulman?

MemberOvomorphJul-07-2012 9:12 AMWell Blake and Milton inspire HDM, and they also inspire Prometheus.
Same themes.

MemberOvomorphJul-07-2012 12:08 PMI think most people would see the links to Prometheus from the Greek mythology stories, it's the first thing I saw when I googled 'Prometheus' after seeing the movie, I guess a lot of stories derived from these, including our own biblical ones, and in turn the Greek ones seem to derived from even earlier stories.
I also heard quite recently, on the TV show QI , about a part of the 'nativity scene' story that was supposedly removed , and it involved a Dragon showing up to eat the baby ,but the baby was rescued by god.

MemberOvomorphJul-10-2012 3:49 PMThe Greek stuff is rather self evident but the other stuff like Sumerian etc is more subtle I think.
Also the Norse stuff.
I think the main sources as per this article are Milton and Prometheus.
