Ok so the cryo-engineer... Is it a suit he wears, or evidence of a black goo infection? Could the fact he is infected explain his behavior?

I think with many questions about the Engineers.... the answers are in the deleted Elder Engineer scene. I dont think the Engineer would be able to live for thousands and thousands of years without aging... I think they age but at a much more slower rate. A Dog ages 7 times faster than a Human, and so maybe the Engineers age like many many times slower than us but are not truly immortal. I dont think the Cryo Pods was there to prevent the Black Goo or Organisms getting to him because well, the other sarcophagus had holes in them so surely these Organisms can get out of the Cryo Pods they can surely get into them as well.

I think it was similar to the matrix, with Neo being a so called "human" yet having "mechanical" objects in him and being hooked up to a machine just to get back into the matrix anyway. so the engineer/space jockey/powder face/angry man was "hooked up" into the life support of the ship. those tubes were just feeding him liquid more likely we also don't know how the engineers age. we all saw the cut scenes of "elder" engineers that were supposed to be in the movie. how old are they? how do they age? why do they age? they look perfect, so why age? they all look the same.

More to the point What are those tubes feeding him that are hooked up to him? He and the suit must be merged in some fashion

I feel it is the level that their technology has reached. They have had to 'merge' with their technology to survive such a long space journey's, cryo-sleep and they have become like cyborgs almost, very much like the Borg from Star Trek. They have taken the step to fuse withtheir technology now foer better functioning. Not that dissimilar to what the Xenomorph does yet on a biological scale it fuses with what ever life it encounters and like a perverse growth becomes one with it. I got thinking that at some point some biological crisis has befallen the Bio Engineers perhaps rendering them infertile and they have had to taken the extreme measures approach and adapt to this situation in the best way they thought they knew how - to bio manipulate they're way out of it. Or perhaps by they're own meddling they caused they're own infertility and sterility in the first place and was trying to preserve what semblance they had left of themselves. It doesn't totally answer the question at hand I am just hypothosizing.

So if they had holes in them it beggars the question: What caused them and it suggests that something got out, or tried to get in, but why leave one alive and just damage the other mechano-tombs? Unless after they all laid down instasis thinking he was on their side, there was just one left concious before he went into cryo-sleep and He somehow fired something into their chests or chest areas point-blank that killed them. He betrayed his fellow bretheren for whatever reason he had. Maybe he felt they were infected and needed to do it in his mind.

I think we are digging too much into design. I don't think there is much in the design to digg as far as suit is concerned.
Uncertainty is the only certainty there is, and knowing how to live with insecurity is the only security.

@hypernova, I had posted somewhere in here about the living engineer was the cause of the deaths of the all the other engineers on LV 223. I think he assassinated all the other engineers, the body’s found by Milford and Fifield appeared as if they were piled up, the 3 other cryo-chambers in the deck of the juggernaut appears as if they were burned from up above the transparent cover, not busted up threw or busted down threw... I believe the only surviving engineer was an assassin stopping the other engineers from leaving w/the black goo
I should reach the frontier in about 6 weeks. With a little luck, the network will pick me up. This is Ripley, last survivor of the Nostromo....

@HyperNova and Fader. Yes i think that the surviving Engineer had something to with the out break, but we maybe wont never find out for sure. Maybe he infected the other 3 while they was asleep, but then again there was more than 3 Engineers in the Holograms running off and more than 3 bodys found.

Its a shame the film makers didn't include some sort of giant monster or something they were running from if that indeed what it was that they were actually running from in the first place. Some sort of Bio Squid but then the circumstances were perhaps not the same then from what they were running from compared to that what Shaw experienced and was running from herself. We can only speculate here, but that is part of the intriguing fun.

@HyperNova That is the whole idea behind what they did..... Ambiguity. You will notice the Dead Space Jockeys have holes some in heads some near there chest.... This is so we cant rule out either something similar to the Traditional Chest Buster or something similar to the Face Buster or what ever caused the head to explode of the Space Jockey that Shaw, Ford and David brought back to study. How do we also not know that the holes in the Space Jockeys are not caused by something breaking out of them, but holes that are put into them by some large creature. We just dont know, and i think by the end of Prometheus 2 we just wont know. I feel we would have to wait until after Prometheus 3 before we get answers to the exact goings on down on LV 223 2000 years ago and also why there was a Cargo of Eggs on the Derelict that crashed on LV 426.

... I have thoughts about this but you folks have taken it to a new level. Think about this.... Design is a function of Environment... now run with that...

The Engineers may be experimenting with the black sludge, most get infected, but one of them managed to put himself under hyper sleep. Reason? To delay the infection of the goo which I think is different from the stuff they drank in the waterfall scene. You can see the last Egr's body is almost covered by Gigeresque styling of our beloved Xeno. Why he is going to Earth if their experiments going out of control? Who knows? It will be cool if the sequel explains that the thing the Engineers are running from is...humans! Weyland's previous expedition with David 7 or whatever the previous generations of androids were. Weyland managed to download memories, facts, emotional experiences of the previous crew into David 8. That's why you see David's expression upon arrival at LV 223 being a mixture of joy (of finally being able to finish a failed previous expedition), and air of strange familiarity (I feel that I have been here before). Look at Fassbender's subtle smile in that scene. The earlier expedition created havoc at the Engineer's lab when humans are experimenting the black stuff on themselves & each other. And it was the Engineers who are running from human-Xeno infections. Why there are no human or hybrid zombie-Xeno corpses? Well, there are still areas in the temple which the current crew has not explored yet.
