One of the main people of any apparent or alleged scientific substance (perhaps the only one) that Eric Von Daniken quoted in one of his dubious books nearly 40 years ago was ex-NASA I think. According to Von daniken (keep taking large pinches of salt now...) the guy was a total sceptic but reversed his position, becoming convinced that certain passages in the Old testament pointed to interstellar craft etc. He may not be wrong, but he may be a lone 'qualified' voice amongst thousands. Also, I'm even NASA has emplyed the odd nutter now and then.
