Engineers and Sex

Saw a picture of the mural of the engineer in the vault and can't tell what sex the depiction might be. The area in question looks 'blank' They do seem very androgynous (despite the strong body build). Are there any depictions in the movie where their sex is distinct (not talking full frontal, just bulges where there should be bulges) I do have an hairbrained idea about it, but just want some verification first.

I'm not convinced that that placental like bag/sac (doesn't it pulse a time or two??) isn't supposed to be a facehugger egg. There is artwork in the book that shows what are presumably the Deacon's hands holding what can only be described as "a egg".
