Does anyone know why Giger was not directly involved in this film, other than the mural he created? Was he approached to be a part of the production and declined, or did Scott just decide not to use him?

MemberOvomorphJul-10-2012 12:43 PMI think it was a mix of all of it! Giger is now a very old man (72) and I think he doesn't have the time or strength to be working 24/7 on a movie plus I think even though Ridley is his friend he's had too many negative experiences with film to work on another one. I don't think he was the first choice to design the aliens probably as a way to distance it from Alien. He also has an extreme phobia of flying so it might be that he didn't want to fly to work on a film. Whichever the reason I really hope Ridley asks him to design ALL the aliens in PARADISE! Giger is truly a master of the bizzare and an ALIEN MICHELANGELO!

MemberOvomorphJul-10-2012 11:54 PMIm still very disapointed at the obvious deviation from Gigers work in Prometheus. All the good stuff ie, Ship, Silo, Corridors, Engineers etc was based on Giger and was floorless. The new creatures were terrible.
Re his age. Giger has thousands of pieces of art. There are many which could have been used for the new creatures. All they had to do was 1 apologise to him for constantly ripping him off and 2 pay him properly as if it wasn’t for him Alien simply would have been just another B horror that no one remembers.

MemberOvomorphJul-11-2012 12:51 AMGiger's work was very sexual. The long small snakelike Alien head coming out of the Aliens mouth is actually the representation of a penis. There are many other things that are sexual. You might already know this but I have encountered many who did not know this. There are also what many consider satanic symbols in the art also. There is no doubt, double imagery is used in Giger's art. I believe this might have had an impact in the change. Plus the Alien theme was meant to be watered down and not be directly obvious. The goal was to run this movie as a separate entity while taking care of loyal Aliens fans. Oh. I mean taking their money! Giger's art did make for the perfect Alien's unlike what we saw at the end of this movie. I personally do not wish to see Giger's art unless I open a book or go to a museum. It screams at me. It is very obvious to me what he did to have people drawn to his work. It is like running your soul on a grater!! This is why Aliens had the feel it did!! Aliens had a very DARK, MOIST, and EVIL feeling to it. It was a Horror Movie!! It was the ART that created the feeling many experienced. Prometheus in my opinion was not meant to be evil/horror but an action Sci-Fi. They stayed away from allot of the traditional Horror triggers and music techniques.
