Does anybody think maybe, just MAYYYYYYBE This movie could just be about how many differences, inconsistencies, problems, malfunctions, plot holes, errors, unrealistic, thought provoking....how many things are WRONG with the movie? We are talking a 130 million dollar budget here. Thats 130 million, with an M. There are just way too many things that flash a red light in my brain saying that somebody is trying to trick me on purpose. Ever since I joined this forum and have investigated this movie, something is not right at all whatsoever, it doesn't make any sense that a world class director would allow this kind of stuff, UNLESS it was on purpose and there is a grand scheme behind this. If we are being "tricked" by Prometheus.............the Titan known for being............a TRICKSTER!!...... I guess the trick, audience member...is not minding that it hurts?

I really liked Prometheus but I did feel the story was a bit rushed. E.g You barely get to know the captain and his crew and they decide to sacrifice themselves at the last moment. I really think Ridley has bigger ideas for the sequel to Prometheus but had to introduce certain elements before he makes us go "Ooooh,I get it now" :)

The amount of money spent has very little to do with the coherence of the story. Sadly... The PRIMARY problem with Prometheus is the editing. That just costs what it costs...

I hear you deftones but I keep going back to the many interviews given by Lindelof and Scott about this very topic and they always say the same thing. They did not intend, nevermind whether it makes any sense or not, they did not intend to make the meaning of the story or plot apparent. They intended to leave it to the viewer to interpret the information presented for themselves without telegraphing it. They have also consistently said that upon viewing the film several times, there is enough information "between the goalposts" (Lindelof's words) to figure the story out without resorting to the sequel, although if a sequel is greenlighted, there will clearly be more complete or explicit exposition. An example given by lindelof was the question of why David spiked the champagne with goo to infect a human. Lindelof said the clue was that right before that scene, David had the helmet with the visor on and is talking to Weyland in stasis and receives from him the command to infect a human. And therein lies the problem. Lindelof thinks this is a clue that a viewer could pick up on and I see very little possibility that I could have figured that out by myself. Perhaps if you look close enough you could tell that Weyland's ID was on the cryonic chamber but otherwise how would you know its Weyland? Because all the others are woken up is a possibility but then how do you get the conversation. I vaguely remember David's lips moving but the conversation is silent, etc. etc. Unless you have a disc and anylize every frame, how can you get this stuff. Moreover, there are plot connections that don't seem to be fathomable because the many variants possible along the narrative line. What event ocurred 2000 years ago? Were the engineers going to destroy earth or back to the Mother planet to stop a regime by rebellion? These questions were also raised by Lindelof in an interview. Fact is, if a clear path was knowable, someone would probably have figured it out somehow. Perhaps that is why I find the most successful reviews to be based upon the thematic and mythological motifs in the film and not those centering on the plot. Bottom line is, if you are going to make your film into a big honking puzzle mystery search, you better d--n well leave better clues. Once I get the DVD I might change my mind. One can only hope.

RW, I believe part of the reason for the ambiguity is because they want you to keep re-watching 'Prometheus'. So, there may be some things you'll pick up on through subsequent viewings. But I also agree that the rushed feeling is due to over-editing and I feel that needs to be addressed. That which has been cut may make the movie feel more fulfilling. That, and a sequel that helps flesh out the first a little more.

"..most successful reviews to be based upon the thematic and mythological motifs in the film and not those centering on the plot..." The more any review(or post for that matter) is based on what is presented in the movie,,the more creedence I give it.... ... The theme is a thread that gives validity to the various scenes and makes it understandable to me. Not everything can be presented,,after all ..it is just a 2 hour movie ..a form of entertainment...but don't leave so many dangling threads that it can become easy to didmiss the movies.message. So I guess I want just the opposite,,reviews based on the visual/audio elements presented in the movie are best for me..

I like a good puzzle, but I hate sloppy story-telling

I think the problem with this movie is they made it for too exclusive an audience. Both Alien and Blade Runner, although there were things that were left purposely ambiguous, there was still a very coherent and entertaining story to be told. People who merely wanted to be entertained - who didn't really think about whether Dekard was a replicant, or who the Space Jockey was, were still able to enjoy the movies. Prometheus is too much about ambiguity and puzzle solving for this type of movie viewer to enjoy.

I see what you are talking about,, The movie was made with a 'How hard can we scenes/storyline of 'Prometheus' to understand, for the audience? and then change .alter and delete another 20% of the movie! Judging by the number of posts of this site,,,it worked!! Patrons are mystified,,,but still come back for more punishnment in the form of unaswered questions,,searching for a truth..(.or any truth). creating wild scenarios..to fit the 'movie's scenes. After all is said and done will we be better persons? Naw!!
