Anyway, wah wah wah, tears of a clown, I'll have to scroll through a friggin' DVD (orrery?) interface to see how the first cut should have been.
Will they name it THE RE-BUTCHERED EDITION?

@FreePlanet:
"There was a specific scene when Fifield-zombie stomped down on some grunt's head with his hands, CUT"
I'm not sure which scene you're referring to, but the theatrical release that I saw had the Fifield-zombie stomping down on some grunt's head with his hands, and a load of blood spurting out as a consequence.
The most terrifying fact about the universe is not that it is hostile but that it is indifferent

@ZZ. I wish the version i saw would have been as Graphic, i didn't see that in the scene. I saw Fifield stick someone with an Axe and then get shot and torched! Mine was the England Version, what country was you watchin in ZZP?
The poster was good though!

It amazes me 'cause Sir Ridley always wants to have Director's Cut as a final word on the matter... wonder what happened that made him change his mind?
*thinking of him waiting to anounce the DC after all sequels have been released and DVD/BR ready*

... I am crying too, FreePlanet... but I cry at any injustice... yet I was looking towards some new additions... hope they are in fact on the DVD...

@David1,
Exactly, he's done it LOADS of times, Director's Cut, Artist re-Cut, MASTER.
But not this time.
This time, you can chew on the choppy scraps we left in the ORIGINAL CUT, geddit? And scroll through hors de context the Extras, ffs.
Yeah.
@Patch,
I adore your military reading cat. Looks like an interesting war plan.

I think we will see it eventually so that Fox can make more cash from us.
I do think Ridley wanted to cut some parts out, here are those changes to my knowledge and reasons for them being cut.
1) Full Sacrificial Engineer scene; This scene had Elder Engineers and other Engineers and about 8 in total on screen. There was a dialog between Elder Engineer and Sacrificial one.
I feel this was taken out as Ridley wanted to keep the Elders and other Engineers and reason for the Sacrifice left a mystery until Prometheus 2.
2) Alien looking Fifield; seems they had about 3-4 different ideas for Fifield and we know one extra one was shot with longer limbs.
I feel Ridley felt that scene and other Fifield concepts had too much Alien DNA in them, and Ridley wanted to savour the Alien DNA until the Trilobite vs Engineer and Deacon Chest Buster Scenes.
3) Davids conversation with Engineer; there apparently was a two way dialog between the Engineer and David, that went back and forth. In the movie we only got to see David speak Engineer to the Engineer and see the Engineer just go berserk.
I feel that this was cut down, because either Ridley felt the Engineers should not be heard talking until Prometheus 2 and that the conversation once answered may had given some answers that Ridley wanted left unanswered.
4) Engineer attack on crew inc Ford; This one is speculation by me, but they did CGI Fords head and she did say her Character gets killed in a Horrific way. Well being pushed across the floor is far from Horrific.
Ridley did say some cuts was made so the movie would pass for a under 18s and so some Gore had to be cut.
5) Engineer vs Shaw; there was a longer scene in which the Engineer enters the lifeboat looking for Shaw and then he grabs her by the throat and lifts her up, while she has the Axe, this is why she was holding the Axe she was preparing to defend herself after David warns her the Engineer is on his way to her. This also is the scene where Shaw fends off the Engineer and falls to the floor and the Engineer walks over above her (seen in trailers) and then picks her up off the floor.
Ridley said it was cut because it made the Engineer look less awe inspiring as Shaw puts up a good fight.
There may be more but those are the scenes that look to had been cut, edits or alternatives shot but not shown.

Yeah, MORE GORE AND DEATH and political relevance of a Slave Nation under a Corporate Despot like Weyland.
Anyway, I gonna go cry now, Scott's original promise of a "I wanna scare the shit out of you" film got shat on.
Official.

bang on! There was a specific scene when Fifield-zombie stomped down on some grunt's head with his hands, CUT.
Totally edited away from at the moment of attack from an 18-cert film - yet they still left the wine bottle crushing the nose scene and the sewing up the face with a needle and thread scene in the 15-cert film PAN'S LABYRINTH from Guillermo del Toro.

Bert RenbourneAugust 06, 2012
Big Dave is absolutely right about that - we won't have a full cut until later. Don't forget, as great as the film is (I love Prometheus despite its flaws and can't wait for the sequel), there were highly cynical reasons for making it. Money.
It won't make business sense for Scott to start talking up a DC yet. This version needs to be fully milked first. And milk it they will.

Cerulean BlueAugust 06, 2012
Sounds to me like Weyland Industries has already begun to control Sir Ridley's comments!
CrabfartAugust 06, 2012
Hmm - balls - well there could be another situation - It might have been worse with the extra bits cut! Who knows - they deffo should redesign the elders so thats good to be out - not sure what the other stuff would be apart from the axe in the face bit with shaw...all the more importance for part 2 to save it now :( ...
I for one will be holding back my money till I see something worth buying in the DVD - maybe Ill even edit the bits together myself :P ...

Major NoobAugust 06, 2012
Crabfart: "maybe I'll even edit the bits together myself.." I was thinking the same thing. I have some editing experience but my brother is a pro. Sounds like a fun night. Or maybe not...

and why not. Dune was re-edited by a fan in youtube.

I was wondering if it is possible, that what we might believe to be deleted scenes, are scenes that are intended for Paradise. After all no one has any previous knowledge on how Ridley would go about planning films back to back. Why have a directors cut when you can pan out the story your really after over the duration of a couple of films.

sukkalAugust 06, 2012
@Batchpool
Why have a directors cut when you can pan out the story your really after over the duration of a couple of films?
Because by editing the first film badly you fundamentally jeopardize the entire future of the franchise. If the first film does not make as much sense as it can (should), it will get bad reviews and damming word of mouth buzz and that will destroy your chance to do ANYTHING with it in the future because it won't make enough money to justify that. Ideally there should be no NEED for a Director’s Cut, but if a "Director’s Cut" can prove to an audience what you're actually capable of, then you may get more viewers of the sequel.

MaiafayAugust 06, 2012
When did he say this? Link?
I mean, he said this around the 4 or 5th of June, then later on, around the 12th or so, he stated otherwise (probably due to fan pressure or studio pressure).
So are you saying he changed his mind...again? Recently? After announcing an extended edition for blue ray?
It'sLikeAnAnthiveAugust 06, 2012
Really? Shit I was really pumped for the directors cut... I'm really pissed now. I shall cry as well FreePlanet...

CustodianAugust 07, 2012
@sukkal, well put.
@maiafay, he did say, specifically, "The film was originally set at 02:27:00 but I edited out 20 minutes." he then went on to say, "I'm very happy with it the way it is and all that other stuff, and deleted scenes that didn't make it into the original first cut, will go onto the Menu of the DVD/BluRay."
Remember, that Collider video interview?
Additional Garbage: And not wanting to 'soil the rep of Sir Ridders' but he did say that he'd be working on a Blade Runner PREQUEL which then turned into a sequel. So, it's open season on truth, perchance to dream.

He still said "maybe" which means, under pressure, he'll release that extended cut. If anything, I'd be happy to scroll through a bunch of restored deleted scenes as long as they are there.
He's notorious for changing his mind, and from what I've seen "confirmed" on the blue ray, there's a ton of cool stuff even if he's not adding anything back to the original cut.

@Freeplanet yep were all following a mad man on a trail even he doesn't know :P - I hope its not old age thats effecting things :S ...

That said I love and hate the theatrical release, but I was looking forward to some more depth (any depth he cries).

As i said i expect the DVD may have some more gore etc....
But the alternative and extended scenes he cut i dont think will make it...
1) some scenes contained too much Alien DNA, which he wanted to limit to Shaws Baby and how it infected the Engineer with a Embryo that Chest Busted from him.
2) some scenes showed too much of the Engineer Race and their purpose and reasons for actions, which Ridley wants to keep as mystery until Prometheus 2.

I think there's no doubt that the Directors Cut will be released in a few years time, which will cost us another 30 quid or 15/20 dollars and then the Boxset, super dooper delux Alien anthology including Prometheus and the Sequels will cost us another *50 £ or 25/30 dollars. I assume that Fox are very clever and they now how to fleece us of our life savings....As for Ridley, he's a business man also!
The poster was good though!

CustodianAugust 08, 2012
Look, it's as simple as this, "I want my RESTORATION CUT," that's the original cut that Scott submitted to Fox, the 2 hours 27 one.
I want my RESTORATION CUT
I want my RESTORATION CUT
I want my RESTORATION CUT

Wow! There's like a thousand threads about this.
First off, Scott has stated many times that what we've seen IS the DC so we can't call it that. I'm very, very, very familiar with Scott's work and not one time have I seen anything that HE HIMSELF decided to cut that I felt would make his film better. There have been many instances of him being forced to change things by a studio or of him changing things because test screenings did not do well that I feel have hurt films but, I'll say again, not ONCE have I ever seen anything that he changed on his own that hindered one of his films instead of helping. So, unless all the statments from Fox and Scott about this being his version and not one thing was cut from the version which HE wanted shown are bullshit I'm going to have to stick with Ridley and believe that the version we've been presented is the best version of Prometheus.
Now, I would certainly watch an extended cut of the film. I would more than likely enjoy one. I just think that most people's expectations of the impact it would have are far warped and are the type of expectations that will leave a sour taste in the mouth upon being unsatisfied.
I want to post further but have to go. Below are some thoughts I posted in another thread which I have altered and added to...
IMO it's too soon for any kind of DC. A DC would totally muck everything up in regards to a sequel. There are countless threads and discussions on what is "canon." Is AvP canon? What about Aliens? How about Alien 3? and so on. Imagine how confused people could or would get if there were 2 versions of Prometheus before the sequel(s) comes out? It could be a disaster depending on if Scott wants to change anything he originally intended. And with all the bitch fests about Lindeloff and the writing I have a feeling at least a few things might change.
Regaqrdless of whether Scott ever does a DC I'm sure Fox, somewhere on down the line, will cut a Special Edition, much like they did with Alien 3. As you probably know, Fincher had no involvement whatsoever.
Personally, I'm happy with the film. Adding some extra Engineers and a fight scene between Shaw and the final Engineer would not make the film better imo. Changing Fifield's transformation will not make it a "better" film for me either. The only way I would think a DC would be necissary would be if it was a case like Kingdom of Heaven where the story actually changes. People seem to think that re-inserting things to make the film longer will make it "breath" better and change the pacing but unless there's substance in what you add it wont make a bit of difference. IMO, of course.
While I don't have a problem with the pacing of the film I do understand that some do. If there is in fact 20 minutes worth of EXPOSITION then I might say a DC is needed. However, extra dialouge and lengthier scenes does not equal exposition. And most importantly, if said exposition was taken out due to it revealing too much of the sequel then it definitely does not need to be done. If that's the case, which I think was in terms of the extra Engineers in the opening, then I would much rather see an extended version released after Ridley has told his complete story.
Point is no matter what it's waaaay too early to release a DC or even think about releasing one. IMO, of course.
