MemberOvomorphAug-11-2012 4:42 PMI have some foreseeings as to what the Sequel(s) will bring about.
The first one is the simplicity factor.
I don't expect an ultra complicated story line. In fact, If you look into both Alien and Prometheus they are pretty straight-forward: Men go to space, find aliens, bad things happen. And that is the main movie Plot as is.
Even in regards of Sub-Plots they are not mind bending as some folks pretend them to be, little less in Prometheus: creator vs created beings; created beings vs robot; belief vs fact; questions vs bloody actions.
So why should the Sequel be any diferent Plot wise (i.e. more complicated)?
The second one is the answers factor:
I have a serious doubt about the Full Circle into Alien material. It seems to me very clear that Sir Ridley was reinventing his own mythos, introducing diferent perspectives, focusing on the SJ right from the start. Which, in my book, is excelent.
New perspectives allow for new ventures and new stuff to come about. Repetition of the old is just plain repetition, which, for the visionary cineast is boresome altogether. Even if for Fan pleasing, more so.
The Aesthetic factor:
I suspect that if the direct sequel takes right from where Prometheus left, the Sequel may take two distinct turns:
1 - more about Company (Weyland and Yutani merger) and what from there results
2 - Shaw and David 8's trip to "Heaven"
And I suspect we'll see more of the first than the second. It's one of those things that forces the fans to stick around forever: don't tell whole story at once, give them interludes enough to whait for the "yet another" next instalment.
But, if it gets done by Sir Ridley, sure thing there will be magnificent Scenes for the Aesthetic lovers.
One certainty, though:
What we WILL NOT SEE: Predators. No Predators. NO PREDATORS!

MemberOvomorphAug-11-2012 8:43 PMIf PROMETHEUS adopts the basic framework of ALIEN, then PROMETHEUS 2 may very well adopt the basic plot of Cameron's ALIENS: more action, more hardware, more blockbuster oriented. A joint Weyland/Yutani expedition is sent to follow-up on the disastrous mission to LV223. The movie probably opens with a classic shot of a gigantic FTL ship drifting in the blackness of space. But instead of going to LV 223, the crew is somehow able to extrapolate coordinates to Engineer's world to perform further exploration of the Black Goo and to rescue/fetch Shaw back to Earth.
The sequel will reveal more about Engineers , their world, their culture without revealing their plan for Earth completely. The unanswered question of PROMETHEUS is why the Engineers react so violently to the humans would be addressed though a full answer will be not be provided. The Engineers culture, philosophy and practical intent seem to be noble as discovered by Shaw. But is their plan for Earth a benevolent one, or something more insidious and hostile? How would a Yutani/Weyland joint expedition equipped with the latest military hardware respond? Would you carry a condom if you are not going to get laid? There will a series of misunderstanding between the two groups with Shaw playing the pacifist/believer role, and in the end the pariah of the humans. This is where the movie might get into full hardware mode with Colonial Marines brandishing their pulse rifles on them "aliens." The Engineers may retaliate with biological version of their hardware. It will be quite a show I am telling you.
Whether or not Fox would create a Trilogy out of it, we still don't know. I want to see the 3rd movie follows the basic premise of THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL. A bit corny, but bringing Xenos to Earth would drive the fan boys happy ...

However, there is plenty of scope to pan out the story way beyond the Engineers, with all the inherent complexity that that might bring, without bamboozling the audience completely, so I have my fingers crossed that they will go some way down that route.

MemberOvomorphAug-11-2012 5:04 PMI would rather see predators than what Ridley scott did to the prometheus. Because he has very less control over FOX marketing and plot these days. Next movie is likely to be revealed 90 percent in trailers lol.
Predators or any other aggressive species sound way better in plot than WY corporate crap and LOST type of story line.
Just sayin :D
Uncertainty is the only certainty there is, and knowing how to live with insecurity is the only security.

You forgot to mention that Engineers do some weird stuff before any of that happens.

If I had my way, it would be wildly different, and the only human in it would be Shaw. Then matters could focus on the truly alien stuff that is nothing like you find on Earth. It could be spectacular, visionary and mind-shattering. But that would never happen because of Hollywood's love of money, sadly.
However, there is plenty of scope to pan out the story way beyond the Engineers, with all the inherent complexity that that might bring, without bamboozling the audience completely, so I have my fingers crossed that they will go some way down that route.
Fox might be tempted to bring in Predators, but not with Ridley at the helm. Didn't he describe the follow-ons featuring Predators as 'so sad'?
The most terrifying fact about the universe is not that it is hostile but that it is indifferent

MemberOvomorphAug-11-2012 5:10 PMsigh* indeed... I can almost see the CEO or whoever it is that makes decisions at FOX saying to Sir Ridley at the phone:
"... you know what, let's put some crap the kids love these days in the movie... what is it? Justin Bieber? yeah, put him there... {Ridley questions]..."
"I don't care in what role as long as he sings... and give me a nice shot of girls pissing themselves and fainting. [Ridley argues]..."
"I don't care if you are Ridley Scott mister, you could be Jesus in the Cross, If I say Justin Bieber and a bunch of girlies, that's what you are shoting!!!!"

I agree. Prometheus was obviously the set up. I don't get why everyone gets so pissed that everything wasn't answered in the first film. IMO, the way televison is telling stories now is far better than films. Obviously a much deeper more involved, rich story can be told over a period of time rather than 2 hours. One of the best things about say, The Walking Dead, are the cliffhangers. Scott wants to tell a rather big story and he had a lot to stuff into one film to set the story up.

SJ myth was thorn asunder by the clichesque Engieers of Prometheus, and that turned more than a few fans down, I am really sure.
I know these new aliens have an appeal to some, but pease they are not original nor really interesting compared to the images given by the first and original Alien.
And I really hope they do not go the "Aliens" route....that movie was ok as an action movie, but it brought the whole concept to a path I think poisoned the whole thing in time.
Do you want Space Marines? FINE! Bring them on, but this time as real, credible warriors prepared by Earth to defend it against threats from beyond, not a bubch of morons knocking their heads at the first different adversary they encounter...
Even Predators would come ok, IF HANDLED WITH SERIOUSNESS. The original Predator concept (one that is being trully revitalyzed with the latest movie and its oncoming sequel as it seems) was interesting and original. And my, that species against the xenos would be a massacre (to the xenos) so even that could be acceptable if handled correctly.
Lets hope next movie tries to keep quality balanced with money gain...but I know how hard such thing is...
