Its all there, you can smell the alien in it, seriously scary too.
Why wasn't Prometheus's soundtrack approached in the same way, it would of set the atmosphere, the mood and kept it into the same universe as Alien.
Instead of which, after buying the blu-ray, I cannot shake off the theme tune of 'Jurassic Park'. It sounds too similar to me, too 'Speilsbergesque'

I'd have preferred a soundtrack by APHEX TWIN, but that's just the way my monkeydrummer-cookie crumbles.

MemberOvomorphOct-17-2012 5:08 AMThe soundtrack like the movie is design/composed by comittee. the movie is a confused tangle of higher themes and summer movie monster-fest. Like any good soundtrack this one matches the movie for which it was made. Those beautiful soaring, epic themes by Harry Gregson-Williams contrasted (badly IMO) with Marc Streitenfelds creepy horror tracks. It would have been better to have one composer for the whole movie but seemingly both composers had thier strenghts and played to them. I loved Marc's work on "American Gangster" but I felt one composer should have handled the soundtrack just as one writer should have handled the movie. Since thet are pursuing the story of the Engineers for the next flick I hope they kick Lindelof and Streitenfeld to the curb and go with Gregson-Williams. "Life" and "Earth" shot to the top ten of my favorite movie tracks and are the reason I purchased the soundtrack.
Aside form the soundtrack itseld I felt that the music was miscued at times, mismatched or overly dramatic for particular scenes. The bit where Holloway sees the wormlike creature in his eye and the music comes in a tad late as it to scare the audience in the event the squigly thing failed to do the trick. James Horner found an excellent balance of horror and suspense for Aliens. Hopefully they'll get right for "Paradise"
