MemberOvomorphNov-10-2012 12:23 PMI now have watched Prometheus and Alien several times and figured it out. I like the idea of the LV moon 223 being name changed to LV 426 but it doesn't work logically. LV 223 is in a 2 moon system with a main massive earthen planet while LV 426 is a 3 moon system with a more gaseous looking main massive planet. Both moons are located orbiting around planets that orbit a star in the Zeta Reticuli star cluster/neighborhood. LV426 was discovered by the crew in Alien and the Engineer who was trying to fly away in their 'croissant' ship was the one who put out the distress signal. That Engineer crashed the ship because a large parasitic xeno octopus/arachnid had attached itself to his face and created a deacon xeno. if you recall in Alien the Engineer was on his chair/cockpit apparatus and a dead parasite skeleton was still attached to his face as well as his ribcage being blown out. LV426 obviously had a queen who had survived thousands of years waiting for a host to land there. The genetic xeno experiment had gone wrong on every planet and moon the Engineers had made a base on. I will leave it to Ridley Scott and his writers to tell us how many planets and moons this xeno experiment was conducted on and why there were no deacon xeno remains anywhere on either moon, just the remains of all the Engineers. Had the first queen on LV 426 died and her eggs remained intact? Can these xenos and their parasite eggs live for thousands of years? These are still mysteries.

MemberOvomorphNov-10-2012 12:51 PMWe still don't know if it was a distress call or a warning in the original Alien. This is stated in the movie. (It could be a warning to fellow Engineers, like a quarantine)
That was NOT a dead "parasite skeleton" ie: facehugger attached to the Space Jockey in Alien, sorry. Thats the suit- he has an elephantine proboscis connecting head to torso- just like the Engineer helmet/suit. (He looks a bit more organic in 'Alien', and larger)
I'll admit the Engineer masks resemble a humanoid with a facehugger attached, i have always thought it must be like an homage to the Xeno.

MemberOvomorphNov-10-2012 2:19 PMWhy didn't the engineer's use our own moon?
I don't think these are weapons at all, the lack of any gun / sharp instrument on the engineer demonstrates that they are beyond such petty barbarism.
They are dealing with big stuff, they are creating new life simply because they can.
They are trying to create 'perfect' life, the 'perfect organism' because they can.
Humanity is a side issue, they simply occupy one experiment.
The jesus link is a red herring.

MemberOvomorphNov-10-2012 2:33 PMYour thoughts on this could be correct Fleshvessel. I'm thinking it's more like a pilot's mask which also looks elephantine possibly unconsciously using the elephant as a model. Tom Skerrit's character mentions a distress signal from LV426 and the mining ship's central computer changed course to check it out by protocol while the crew was in hypersleep. It was hard to tell if the Engineer/Space Jockey had a facehugger or not but his ribcage was torn open so he died by xeno impregnation and probably crashed or couldn't take off because of a sudden death due to that. There was a queen laying eggs on the Engineers' croissant ship on LV426. My inquiry is was that queen still alive or long dead? How long had those eggs been there? We know the Engineers on LV223 had been either wiped out by xenos or died in hypersleep which occurred around 2000 years ago. Was this the case on LV426?

MemberOvomorphNov-10-2012 2:56 PMWanderer, I think the xeno gene was used to improve the Engineers' bodies to be stronger, more durable, more space travel worthy and to live longer. They didn't realize the xenos could mutate and create parasitic forms and impregnate bodies decimating a population of air-breathing hosts. The Engineers also became violent and aggressive once the xeno gene was introduced into their bodies. It got out of control and since the engineers had lost theiur humanness and conscience they decided to go to Earth and destroy the planet with the xenos on board making it a sort of bioweapon as an afterthought. The Engineers became like the xenos with the added intellect of a human brain but had fallen from grace.

MemberOvomorphNov-10-2012 3:19 PMI just don't buy the xeno as weapon idea, if I were part of a million plus year old civilisation I could surely use more destructive power than infecting a plant with xenos, can you imagine how long it would take to work.
They aren't weapons, the engineer's simply venerate it the same way ash did, 'perfect organism'
It doesn't 'suffer' from the conscience and ethics that the Engineers / Humans do.
I think the realisation of this also lies behind the Engineer's aggression.

MemberOvomorphNov-10-2012 7:56 PMTheseus, first of all, when you watch 'The Furious Gods' documentary on Prometheus, Ridley Scott et al discuss the Spacejockey quite explicitly, stating that he chose to revolve this new prequel around who that character in the chair with the elephantine like head was, and he challenged Jon Spaiht and others to see him as not an alien with an exoskeleton but rather a humanoid within a space suit. He said it right out," No that's not an elephantine alien its a large humanoid in a suit." That way they could avoid the comic appearance of an alien that we look nothing like and could not relate to. This movie must be the story of us according to RS, so the spacejockey has a humanoid within it. This is such a well established fact that we not need to rehash this over again. Always keep your opinions as hypothetical at best and this goes for all of us here since none of us has all he answers and we are trying to uncover probabilities with limited knowledge, but we do have sources like interviews, additional deleted scenes or alternative scenes and endings and documentaries. If we go by what data we do have we can arrive at some pretty accurate hypotheses together but we must remember that none of us is the definitive source and we all are sharing our speculations. I have read too many opinions here that go way out on a limb but are stated as if they are fact based. This goes for all of us here. We are all engaged in hypothetical speculation and no one has figured it all out. Lets all keep this in mind as we share our hunches and opinions with each other please! Nothing against you personally Theseus. I want everyone of us to keep this idea in mind as we communicate and share our ideas, yes?

MemberOvomorphNov-11-2012 2:58 AMForget the old mysteries for a moment...Prometheus has opened to us a new door with a large number of possibilities.
What would have happened if the movie would have been a direct prequel?
Then we would have a rehash of the same and insurance and would have nothing new, and nothing more to discuss ... very boring indeed :P

MemberOvomorphNov-11-2012 5:43 AMShambhala, quite right. The mysteries of Prometheus provides us with questions enough to keep us guessing till Paradise comes out! Thank god Prometheus is not a direct prequel that sewed up all the questions of alien in a nice perfect package. We would have nothing to speculate about. Now we have a rich thought provoking movie that opens up more questions that it answered. Ridley Scott chose to focus on who was the space jockey. He wondered for 3 decades why more people never asked the question central to this new story: Who were the space jockies like the one discovered in the derelict space craft on LV426 and why would they be carrying those eggs? I reject the notion that there was a queen on that space craft as all we know is that there were eggs there and we do not know how the Engineers got them on board or if their technology is responsible for the reactive light membrane over them for that matter. See more questions and mysteries. Not answers but questions. Much better that way.

Your commen ts started me thinking aboiut the questions and unaswered thread we all have about the movie.
If a movie is referred to as a significant movie that is good, enjoyable understandable, logical and entertaining in a two hour format should it gererate so many more hours of special DVD documentation ..countless questions on this site many articles trying to explain what we witness in the theater or off of DVDs?
Perhaps your comment about not having anything to speculate about is the answer for all of us as it does get the mind to start to think about the implications of various proposed scenarios.detailed on this site.
It is quite amazing that humans can turn a 2 hour movie into an ongoing discussion involving people from around the world

MemberOvomorphNov-12-2012 7:16 AMYes, Tom Skerrit calls it a distress beacon, but Ash later tells Ripley "by the time they get there- they'll know if it's a warning or not."
So- it seems quite possible that it was a Warning (stay away) and not a Distress (SOS) call.

MemberOvomorphNov-12-2012 8:43 AMAlso- facehuggers dont hang around- once the target is impregnated, they wander off and die.
So...most likely was just the suit on Space Jockey.

MemberOvomorphNov-12-2012 11:18 AMI love Alien, Aliens, Alien3 not so much but will watch the extended, and especially Prometheus, which I can watch over and over (no. not back to back! ) and all the associated documentaries and extra footage of all. Prometheus raises the bigest questions though.

MemberOvomorphDec-06-2012 10:07 PMFair enough nostromo001 and good points FleshVessel. I meant to say I think I have some of it figured out. Talking off the top of my head doesn't always get written so well. Obviously I don't have as much figured out as I had thought. Yes, we are all just yaking here very seriously. I'm simply spattering words out trying not to edit myself too much here.

MemberOvomorphDec-06-2012 10:21 PMQuite right Wanderer. It would take a long time to work as a WMD so what was the purpose of coming to Earth with it in thousands of urns/vases? Was the xeno creation actually supposed to be a genesis experiment?

Indy John
MemberOvomorphDec-07-2012 7:22 AMXenos an experiment?
With the Engineers somewhat afraid of the xenos they would very careful in hopw these creatures would be used,
I use the word creatures but are xenos something more? Couls xenos be directing the Engineers? Is there a super xeno?
You mention xenos being used in a Genesis experiemnt. Is this a chance for xenos to have and develop their own world?
That seems hard to believe as they are dependent on others to advance their species. But at some point when a few xenos get together they might and should be concerned with survivial of their contination on a more permanant basis.

MemberOvomorphJan-09-2013 2:07 PMWe'll have some of this answered I hope in the Paradise film...or an answer that spawns even more questions. I love open-ended films leaving it up to interpretation rather than a pat answer all the time. Perhaps my thoughts on Paradise are a bit Utopian and New Age but that's how a golden age or pradise was written about by the ancient cultures. Plato described Atlantis as being Utopian, the Srimad Bhagavatam talks about multi-dimensional worlds existing all at once with the physical...the 3rd density reality co-exists with higher dimensions. I think that could be a very interesting motif or visual and visceral experience in the Paradise film...and my gauntlet challenge to Sir Ridley Scott.

MemberOvomorphJan-18-2013 10:41 AM I am afraid if RS serves up a Paradise as you describe in your post it will be a 'Lost Paradise' to me.
I can handle some open ended films but I think in this case i would like a more definitive answer to the question raised by this movie and to some extent the Alien storyline.
PLease make Paradise well grounded and to the point.
If anything let's get a full explanation of the David and Shaw charactors.
