MemberFacehuggerDec-14-2012 10:09 AMBack in the mists of time, sitting on Santa’s knee. You might have been asked that all important question. “What do you want for Xmas ? Your answer might have been a bike, but times change and so does technology, and then along comes electronic toys and the internet.
I remember a very old friend of mine who was running a website like an inverted agony aunt. All problems were responded with a high degree of sarcastic wit and never to be taken seriously. One Xmas a bike shop owner, posts a message stating that they were feeling suicidal and the cause of this was because they were losing business to kids lack of interest in bikes. The response to this problem was that the shop owner should strap on a bomb and drive their bike through the shop front of their competitors and detonate themselves, thus killing two birds with one stone.
What followed was tragic, which goes to show that confusing sarcasm with literal instructions can be fatal, and that the authorities are very efficient at identifying the root cause of a problem.
Should you be looking for a bike this xmas, you may have noticed that through the windows of many shops, and down the aisles of many a reputable electronics retailer, there are rows of screens. ipad screens, Samsung Screens, sun screens and sod all else.
Now if you are looking for a bike, you just might want to consider this idea. Why not download one?
You might be one of those individuals who has just purchased a 3D printer, and figures that at $40 a kilo for ABS thermoplastic, you could possibly print a bike. It may be fair to say that you are not going to see many of these on the high street just yet. Wait till after Xmas when, most stores have had their New Years Sales and disposed of all their out of date technology at their ‘you’ve got to be kidding prices’.
So, this time next year, could we be looking at downloading plastic kits of Prometheus. Take note, the technology is already here and the design software is already out there for free ( e.g. Sketchup) , and all you have to do is hook up a printer.
I think marketing could take on a whole new dimension. Last but not least, have the admin dudes and dudettes of this site got anything planned yet?
Merry Xmas to you all
