MemberOvomorphJan-17-2013 7:35 AMThe age of the LV-223 base is a good question. This base has more mysteries than a Sherlock Holmes' story. None of the questions we ask here are answered by the crew of Prometheus. There is specualtion but no proof or chain of thought connecting everything together.
As far as the age of this site on the moon the only time reference is the 2,000 year carbon dating of the decapitated engineer.
Heck the base could have seemn much action before that time. It has just been dormant for the lasty 2,000 years.
If I were the Engineers i woukld, have a base as soon as I discovered that 'Goo' might be a WMD.
So 35,000 years might even be a close to us.
A 100,000 years might be closer to the truth.

MemberOvomorphJan-19-2013 12:47 AMnot strictly to topic but the thread is called lv223...
i'm curious to see how they deal with lv223 as it appears to have several derelict WMD ships waiting to be discovered, plus it has the 'Deacon'; a mutant strain of the classic xenomorph hanging about. seems to me there are only a few versions of future events that would NOT set off the destruction of Earth, which because of Alien and Aliens we know doesn't happen.
A: humans never set foot on lv223 again
B: the site gets nuked or planet gets annihilated
C: the 'company' finds the site and somehow deals with the situation in a way that does not risk Earth
A is unlikely, as the company must know the coordinates of the planet - unless it was all kept secret by Weyland. C is equally unlikely, as humans in these films always underestimate the xenos - also, if the 'company' got their hands on the black goo, their future obsession with getting specimens of the xeno would, for the most part, be nullified.
This leaves B as the most likely avenue, perhaps David finds the derelict ship has weapons systems? Perhaps the master race sends a cleanup team? Maybe the 'company' followup expedition nukes the place after getting wiped out by the Deacon?

MemberOvomorphJan-19-2013 1:16 AMon topic ive found it quite interesting how the Starcraft universe is much inspired by Alien and Aliens. Their 'master race' http://starcraft.wikia.com/wiki/Xel%27naga Xel'naga experimented on planets for spans of millions of years, which makes sense to our understanding of evolution. From this, 2000 years or 35000 years would be a drop in the ocean for their overall plans of experimentation.
given the reactivity of the 'black goo' though, the writers of the next 2 films could exercise some creative liberties with timelines. there is also could be many many types of black goo that all work differently and can induce different speeds of evolution.
