I have the perception that Prometheus ending, seeing a starship through the space is something abstract and unreal. Am I wrong? I do not intending to open a thread here to distorting the main history, but I thought it more like a desire than a reality, coming from Dr. Shaw s mind. What d you think?

@Mateo: I'm not quite getting the point or even the question. Would you mind re-phrasing your post and/or putting it into more context? Is it the Juggernaut leaving LV-223 with Shaw and David aboard you're referring to? Cheers

Sorry Hal, you are right! I meaning the final scene that shows the Juggernaut starship across the stratosphere leaving LV-223. Sorry for my English duck. Thank you.

Mateo- this is an interesting question. One thing I love about Prometheus is the way it becomes more dreamlike as the story progresses. One example of this is when a bloodied Shaw finds David bathing Weylands feet after her nightmare Caesarian, and Weylands lack of concern or even curiosity for her condition. I don't think this was an accident, it was a fine stroke of surrealism . It's reasonable to question where reality may have fled her, but for the sake of the story I don't think her departure was imagined. I do think we were deftly manipulated into acceptance of the bizarre, a sort of set up for the weirdness to come. I think Shaw and David are potentially the most memorable and unique movie duo to have come along in a long time.

Interesting, then maybe in the sequel and in parallel: 1) Shaw and David find what they are looking for, but soon what killed the Engineers unleash hell. (not necessarily a monster, also can be a technological terror, another faction of Engineers or even another alien race) 2) Shaw immersed in a dark nightmare, trying to escape to return to Earth (but none of this really happening). 3) An expedition of Weyland (or Yutani?) to find our two heroes. Then, the three stories are connected when the second crew discovers Shaw's corpse; probably killed when she was fighting to stop a potential threat. Then at the end of Shaw's story (number two), she assumes his destiny and in the end of the road she meets her father. Regarding the Engineers, they are not gods or angels; but they play at being gods and paid the price for that because their world is ruined. The scars of war adorn what was once home to a thriving civilization. But there must be a reason for why they created mankind. Then maybe its wars are even older than our origins and their race is almost extinct, surviving in hypersleep chambers. So, God created mankind in his own image because he is dying and wants to save his legacy...but can also be a darker purpose.
One example of this is when a bloodied Shaw finds David bathing Weylands feet after her nightmare Caesarian, and Weylands lack of concern or even curiosity for her condition...
Even when she walks frightened and shocked by the corridors of the ship seems like a dream or another another dimension...

The dreams would be another place where, through the symbols, these instincts could be channeled and met in a symbolic way, something like the desire of the unconscious, and that disguises it the conscious to make it tolerable, giving rise to those images and dreamlike situations. But Elizabeth Shaw if remember well, She is under the influence of drugs or painkillers that she injected and that can give rise to "hallucinations", if we see some scenes, for example the corridor or nightmare Caesarian, and many others, and that final scene of the starship so abstract and fictitious. This interesting topic reminds me of the famous Freud s case called Irma s Injection, the dream that put on the track to Freud of this theory was himself one, known as Irma s injection. He had dreamed of a former patient, Irma, and he suffered enormous pain caused by a contaminated injection that had been given him another doctor. To analyze it Freud realized that, through this dream, had downloaded his feelings of guilt before the suffering of Irma, which still had not been able to alleviate, to blame them on another medical opponent. Thus, his dream had given output those feelings of guilt, deaden them by this subtle disguise.

@Mateo, that was an interesting example...and yeah, we can test the reality and context of some events of Prometheus. The final scene...would it just part of Shaw's desire to find her answers? Is there a reality in disguise? maybe she's stoned or in hypersleep... But then again I'm agree with @Major Noob, because this can be a resource to make this film even more ambiguous than many of us expected, and the trip of Shaw and David must be real. Anyway, I would like to see some surreal touches in the sequel.

I must say that the passing of time leaves an open door for interpertation. They arrive on Christmas day and leave on new years day. But all the events seem to only take a couple of days. @shambhala Maybe shes not stoned or in hyper sleep, but david drugged them to sleep for longer. His reasoning being so he can conduct experiments or investigate other matters.....LV426 perhaps.
"how do you feel?"-" great, next stupid question"

@Mateo: Thanks for clarifying the context and thoughts of your original post. And hey, your English is spot on, that's not what I meant, clearly nothing to worry about there. Also thanks again for starting this rather interesting thread. It's good to be back after being away for a while and to realise there's still such interesting conversations going on around here... Not too long ago I though everything and anything must have been discussed by now. So, this really is an interesting approach or theory I hadn't thought of before. Just to re-cap, if there there really was a dream-like ending to the film, am I right to assume it would have started after David informed Shaw about her pregnancy, injecting her pretty strong drugs? That means when she's on the examination table to be prepped for hypersleep, she does in fact not 'wake up', fighting her way out, but instead remains well drugged and put into her cyrosleep chamber, right? I have to admit, it would somehow make sense, as I don't think someone could possibly be immune against advanced medication of that time. Sure David knew what and how much of it to inject to be sure. However, taking all that into consideration, then stepping back a bit looking at the bigger picture... Do you really believe Ridley Scott himself would actually do something like that? Doesn't that somehow belong into 1980's "Dallas" where an intire season turned out to have been nothing but a long dream? Does this really look like Scott's signature? I wouldn't want to think so... In "Paradise", would he then go back to that scene and offer an alternative ending or take the story to spin off into yet another direction, causing more confusion for the audiences? Don't get me wrong, looking at all the 'facts' for this theory, there is a point to it, but is that what we'd want for "Paradise"? I really did like the ending as it stands, thought it was epic, creating a new heroine with Shaw and her motivations after having lost pretty much everything BUT her believes and faith. I did not need the Deacon scene though, for me that's still a slightly tacky crowd-pleaser...

I agree Hal. What I now think is that he wants us to feel that at the end. He wants that emotion and the feel of a dream especially after Shaw gets rid of the monster inside her. Probably because of how the rest of it went. haha, because the end wasn't a dream(I'm pretty sure) but doesn't having an abortion because an Alien is inside of you, running around, finding a rich guy who happens to be a day or two from death looking for eternal life, then seeing your creator kill several people, then almost getting crushed by a gigantic and impressive alien craft, then getting attacked by the previously mentioned creator, and finally, leaving lv223 to go farther from reality(see what I did there?), sound like a dream to you?
