Good Idea Who Barnett Might Play in Prometheus Sequel

Call it a hunch. Call it a weird premonition. But I think I know which character Rik Barnett might play in the upcoming Prometheus sequel. Want a hint. His last name rhymes with irk and his first name is an ex-Tornonto Raptor's all-pro last name. Give up: Carter Burke, albeit in his early years, the slimey corporate terraforming profiteer from Aliens, played by Paul Reiser. What do you think?

Not really, we already know that the Urns contain Xeno DNA carrying Goo, and what ever it comes into contact with would create a Hybrid. I think the more tricky part as far as franchise goes is what becomes of the Deacon? Surely the Weyland suits and Yutani would have known about Prometheus mission, and they would be wondering what went wrong We do not know what kind of Logs and Messages David or even Vickers may have been making and sending back to Earth or other Weyland Colonies? And any investigating missions would stumble at some point upon Shaws SOS Message warning that their is nothing but Death here. Would the suits take notice of such a warning? You can bet they would want to find out why the place is full of death. If someone found a Organism like the Thing in Antartic and they wiped it out or so they thought and sent a SOS about to stay away before they say blew themselves up, if the Goverments found out about the Organism outbreak would they all go.. you know what, lets secure this place so no one ever goes there or lets nuke the place to kingdom come... Nope some will think they could obtain and safely test and research the Organism despite the risks and previous outbreak. So lets say Prometheus mission was documented that they found some substance Bio Weapon that contains a substance that can change Organisms into Hybrid Killing Machines, would companies like Weyland and Yutani think, well we cant have that lets blow LV 226 to kingdom come... Nope they would aim to obtain a specimen to test. Thinking that they would be able to contain any threat it would pose.

Yeah, that's the point I was making in my previous post. What do you do with the Deacon if David creates a new Alien while en route to the engineer's home world? My knee-jerk response is to say don't have David create a new alien. We've already invested in the outcome of the Deacon, so why detract from our investment with another alien creation. Secondly, do we really believe that David wants to exterminate the human race? I don't think so. He's an android. He's programed to carry out activities that some humans might find "unethical," but because he lacks programing that would allow him to feel human emotions, he can never act on a motive of vengeance since vengeance is tied to the emotion of hatred.

Well i think the Deacon was a plot device to somehow show a connection between the Engineers and the Xeno via the Bio Weapon they was working on at the outpost on LV223. But its done in a way that leaves the door open to explore the Deacon, or they could ignore it. As far as David goes i think in many parts of the movie it shows that David can perform tasks on his own, and act alone with his own Agenda i think the Androids are flawed, just as Ash is in Alien and Bishop does say that previous models where a bit twitchy. David seemed to be performing and carrying out a Agenda for Weyland, yet he said to Shaw doesnt everyone want their parents dead. With Weyland gone you have to ask who does David serve, and Ridley did hint that Shaw would be foolish to put his head back on as he cant be trusted, but she has no choice as otherwise she would been stuck on LV223.

Me too! I like the way you think. No wonder they call you "Visionary Alpha" Had a chance to digest what Big Dave had to say. He makes a really compelling argument and I think he's brought me over to his side on the flawed nature of androids. Still, as "flawed" as they are, I don't think their MO is the extermination of the human race. And here's why...Ash wigged out on Ripley, not because he hated her persay, but because she got between him and the company's directive to bring a specimen back to the Weyland Laboratories at all costs. Which is what Ash reveals--or at least his chopped off head does--after Ripley dislodges it from his body and then interrogates him. Had he hated her--and all of us for that matter--he would have spent his final minutes alive telling her how much he despised the human race. Instead, he reveals the company's secret directive to "deliver a specimen to the lab...crew expendable." A company man to the end, basically. David kills in the exact same fashion as Ash. Nothing is done as part of an agenda to topple human beings from the top of the evolutionary perch. David's unethical behavior comes from the programing he received from Weyland Industries which disabled his conscience for the purpose of carrying out tasks that most humans would find "unethical." Notice when he kills Charlie. He poisons him only after Weyland has given him the order to infect a human with Alien DNA, not before. And prior to that moment, Charlie has provided David with many reasons to want to kill Charlie for the insults he has paid him regarding the fact that he is an android. In fact, if you watch the film closely, the exact moment David poisons Charlie's drink is when Charlie tells him he would do "anything and everything" to know the truth. The last exchange before hearing David tap the black goo into Charlie's glass is hardly an insult directed at David. It is an echo of David's own programming that compels him to sidestep all ethical considerations in achieving the company's truth agenda. Had David had his own agenda--an agenda that included the downfall of the human race--we would have seen him act on it much earlier in the film. For example, had he really wanted his "parents dead," he could have killed Weyland in his sleep while in stasis in the cryotube. For that matter, he could have offed the whole blood lot of them and gotten clean away with it. Even the line about everyone wanting their parents dead doesn't exactly convict him. Notice that he says that he wants his parents (Weyland) dead, not that he wants to kill them. The phrasing makes a big difference if we are trying to understand his intent. Wanting your parents dead means that he wishes they would unexpectedly die so he could have his freedom. Wanting to kill your parents means that he genuinely hates his parents because of who they are. Lastly, the point about the Deacon being only a one-and-done plot device for Prometheus. Really? Ridley's going to put the Deacon out their only to snatch it away from the throngs of rabid fans that have been clamoring for him all these years? Don't think so. The fans wouldn't want it. More importantly, they wouldn't "buy it." Going to an Aliens movie without the Alien would be like going to a McDonald's that didn't serve hamburgers and french fries. That's what made Aliens the franchise it is today!

Well, I am glad to make your acquaintance, David. I guess someone from Earth will come to LV 223 in the next movie, to encounter the deacon. There will be two story-lines in the movie, switching from these other people and Shaw.

I think you're right about the two story-lines. That would make perfect sense to me. We get answers to all of our Alien questions with plot line connected to LV223 and answers for Prometheus with Shaw and David's expedition to the engineers' home world. Let's just hope one of the plot lines doesn't overshadow the other, and that they find a natural thread in the plot to bring both lines of the story together. That will be a fine balancing act indeed.
