Came across a vid on Youtube that I hadn't seen before and thought that I would post it for some of you that also haven't seen it. I assume that some of you have though. Scientists destroy Prometheus! To me, it seems like they are taking a little too much pleasure in ripping it to peaces!

The poster was good though!

You would be shocked how far some people go for pets many people see them as equals is it lone that's the cat lover I think (he/ she might have something to say!). That parts about ripley showing what a hero she is - no one gets left! And yer u don't want the film to be too factual and sterile I kniw but its so easy just to enploy a few experts on a film to keep most of it in check!

@Sixxshot; It is possible for a person to love their pet as much, if not more than a person. Would you leave behind someone that you love?

The poster was good though!

The smart science fiction is always necessary, but I separated my love of hard science fiction of my love of space opera. There are many different genres like Steampunk, Cyberpunk, military, post-apocalyptic, dystopian, etc,and I can not judge them all with the same parameters. For Prometheus, my greatest dissatisfaction was with respect to most of the characters and excessive ambiguity (a sign of a lazy script) but I was not expecting a masterpiece of hard science fiction anyway.

Okay, so let me get this straight, it wasn't "stupid" for Ripley to risk her life for a f cat, but it was "horrible writing" for Milburne to be mesmerized by a new animal species from the stand point of being a biologist nerd? Oh, but it was okay, because it made Ripley the hero. That makes it not illogical then? Then if Milburne's main purpose was to act as alien lunch in the plot line of a horror-scifi film, you could use the same justification, couldn't you? See how that works? You know what was also accused of plot holes when it came out? Alien. Because they didn't bother explaining where the eggs came from, etc. Hilariously, history repeats itself with people too accustomed to stupid movies that explain everything to you instead of bothering to make the audience think about what is not pointed out to them.

Lol ur not getting it - ripley thinks of the cat as a person she loves it. That part was showing her compassion and strength. A trained biologist sticking his face into a 9ft space snake that clearly looks aggressive is plain bonkers. And alien got quiet goid reviews abd still has it was blade runner that got slated I thought. Abd yer shams I know that part too...
history repeats itself with people too accustomed to stupid movies that explain everything to you instead of bothering to make the audience think about what is not pointed out to them
Thats a lazy script, because the filmmakers do not care to investigate, much less to develop adult characters. If you think its smart to make a mess full of random ideas go to see Alex Jones or Giorgio Tsoukalos :p

When people agree to live in ignorance is like religion, is not very smart indeed. In my case, I only see different styles of science fiction, but that does not mean I see Prometheus as an intelligent masterpiece. It is a fantasy film, visually elegant and epic, but with bad characters and poor story.

@Shambs; I agree completely! I love it and hate it in equal measure. A great film that frustrates the shit out of me!!! ALIEN is just great! But it's not a competition. Let's face it, Prometheus could have been better, but could also have been worse!

How were the adult characters in Alien developed? Was saying "right" over and over again great character development? Oh Ripley was developed all right, but it was James Cameron who did it. But the first film purists will never admit that. I wouldn't have a problem with the nitpicking if it the hypocrisy wasn't so bald-faced. Don't worry though, the film has already been re-assessed as better than you think. The sales on blu-ray were ridiculously good. I see this nerd shit with almost every franchise. The good, new entries are initially hated and then eventually they are accepted as being good entries later on. Day of the Dead (1985) was initially tagged as piece of shit, and now it's a classic.

Yer even I wondered at one point if lindelof had taken the b movie horror dark comedy aspect but just plain messed it up. I guess if you do take it from a fatasy perspective and gloss over things it does work but in this case its a ridley scott sci fi for me it should be totally plausible scientifically characteristicly and any other ...ly and amazing / highest standards! And yes I do love prometheus's overall original idea I not a xeno fanboi I love the engineer path just hope the ship can be steadied in part 2!

I loved the right bit it was a joke least he was set up as an idiot from the start unlike most of the crew in promethues that seemed to go from nrmal to idiot second by second. Six we are a year n a half past the release I don't see any - wow yes it is a masterpiece! Unless maybe part 2 3 drags it up but even then...why would they sack the writer if its going so well lol!

Quote; "How were the adult characters in Alien developed? Was saying "right" over and over again great character development? Oh Ripley was developed all right, but it was James Cameron who did it." They were SPACE TRUCKERS not scientists, and it was only Brett who kept on saying "Right" all the time. That was just to show that he was a YES MAN who would do what he was told. Most truckers don't have very much to say anyway. Also, there wouldn't have been any development of Ripley if it wasn't for Ridley and Dan o Bannon. That's a FACT!

The poster was good though!

MemberOvomorphDec-04-2013 2:01 PM
So it's okay for space truckers to be one dimensional, but scientists, who are infamous for being antisocial nerds, have to be mutli-faceted round characters with layers and layers even if they're b-characters like Milburne? Jeez, you guys are making this too easy for me. Fact, Shaw, David and even Charlie are more complex than any of the archetypal characters in Alien. Ummm, Dan O'Bannon's Ripley wasn't named Ripley and wasn't even female. I think you need to read up more on this film because you definitely have that part wrong. The idea behind Alien is it was a b-movie with a-movie production values. Prometheus is a way more ambitious movie. Even Ridley Scott admits this. He calls Alien a ghost house movie for crying out loud. People just need to stop with the revisionist history. If you like "scifi," you should be thanking this movie, because it would have continued on the path it was on as a videogame action franchise aimed at tweens. Prometheus made this franchise serious again and refocused it on science fiction.

Lol funny funny one day youll think back to this and be so red faced milburn was not one dimetional he plain just didn't make sense its like night and day...in alien he mau not have said much but it totally fitted made sense and was believable. If you don't believe us go chat to the 97 percent of people that loved it out there lol... Ps did u know the reason that scene git so messed up was taking out the milburn fifield getting stoned part and them thinking the suits were 'bullet proof' resulting in a muddled end result. Even with those two things it would still only be half plausible but they took them out :O wgen you start chopping stuff up like that its gonna get muddled!

I see that there is no way to have an intelligent, rational debate with some people without them resorting to childish insults. 97 percent of people loved ALIEN. That say's it all!

Milburne's character makes sense. He's just a huge nerd. Not much more else you need to know about him. Thus him getting caught up in observing the new species like it was a puppy. It was totally in character for him. And Phifield was already smoking pot. It's in the film. He's doing the mission for money and only cares about rocks, he says it himself! If you're ok with a fucking spaceship engineer who just says "right" and nothing else, I'm hard pressed to see why that's okay and this is wrong.

I never insulted you. And the later part is not an argument. The audience liked Prometheus as well, it was one of the most successful R-rated movies in years and years.

Ok, while we are on the subject of facts and what people will realistically do in any given situation, here I go: Quote; "Milburne's character makes sense. He's just a huge nerd. Not much more else you need to know about him. Thus him getting caught up in observing the new species like it was a puppy. It was totally in character for him." He's an expert in creatures isn't he? So why doesn't he pick up on the hammerpedes aggressive body language? I would assume that he has come across snakes on planet Earth before. It took an aggressive stance and hissed. Also it was an alien creature, he had no idea of what it was really capable of. I'm no expert in the body language of creatures, but I'm pretty sure that if an alien snake took a stance like it did and hissed, I defo wouldn't have put my hand out to it! For an expert in creatures, it was a pretty stupid move!

Lol stop it my sides are hurting so a biologist who runs away from s dead slien body - the biggest biological find in history then wants to hug a 9ft long skinless cobra space snake and thinks its s puppy lol this is getting funnier if you see nothing wrong with that well lol....and it was tabacco in the film...puppy lololol...

Milburn is a huge Steve Irwin, with that fantasy of *I can set up a special connexion with wild animals and yet I can be safe*... but in no way is a real scientific, its just a hipster :p

Necronom4 Thanks for showing what you think. From your comments it seems that you classify sci fi and then fantasy and that to a certain extent alien and prometheus might be considered more fantasy than science fiction. Am I correct ? I also have to agree with you that I both love and hate prometheus at different ways - but ultimately I still love it . Its beautiful it has a sense of itself unlike any other movie I have ever seen. What however pisses me of is that if you look at the earlier drafts of alien you can see that the fossilised alien was earlier fossilised outside(and very old millons of years) the ship earlier lambert asked where the crew was when the ship was of human origins and that's where the term space jockey originated from and where lamberts question regarding the rest of the crew was - the eggs were supposed to be in a pyramid being experimented by us(or an unknown 3rd party - not very old ) and then they all moved that into the ship and mixed it together - and it worked but it was never supposed to make sense - because as you rightly said it was alien by nature and could therefore seen as "alien" and accepted as not making sense. In prometheus however the actions of the crew weren't alien as they come from our world and we know them. That is what pisses me of. The behaviour of the crew was inexplicable - but what do we know about scientists in 2089 ?? What would the level of education be in a time like that ?? Where would genetics be by then ?? What about archaeology?? What level of technology existed then ? I could ask the same question about alien. IMHO Science fiction is the fictional exploration of what science might look lile many years from now . Wormholes makes more sense than ftl travel. Einstein (I think) believed in curved space. Dunno... So in prometheus they throw a lot of things together (like in alien) and now it has to float. But they overdo it and really makes things conflicting - yiu can go so many directions as to why m and f got lost . In the jon spaihts draft they just forgot to take maps with them but in prometheus the maps are in the suits ....so what now ...this is plainly deliberate misleading and conflicting to create confusion. So initially when prometheus came out I thought the idea would be to later on add more scenes in a Re cut that would better explain the actions of the crew. Like for instance that perhaps there were a scene where that the relationship between the points on the pictograms were so exactly the same (to the millionth of a millimetre) that it had to be made by very well developed atand higly advanced)technology. Perhaps later we might find a scene where the. The relationship between the points are all the same because that's how they were 35000 years ago and the oldest pictogram were 35000 years meaning you had to have technology that could calculate what stasystem would have had that relationshop 35000 years ago . Perhaps that's the hodden message the engineers left. And then a scen where the computer scientists finally realize this because the star systems shift with time and nothing really fitted in the present. Does that malke sense ?? that's how they found the system after looking at it and culcuilating how it must loolk now. And voila ..... Then with telescopes 50-60 times more powerful then we have right now they would be able to calculate that there might be a planet who can sustaon life in that system . Plausible right ??? And then the scene where a dying weyland sees this and decides to go .... He has trillions dollars , what would it mean to him dead. And them scenes might later be added in a recut or hints to it and the film will start to make more sense and this could be applied to other parts of the people. So 2 recuts dowm the line people will still make their money and everyones happy !!!like they did with blade runner. This was my initial impression. It seems now however that's not the case ..... Or am I wrong ???? Goshdarnit.... That's ehy the like / not liking is starting to reach similar levels . Otherwise why did they malke prometheus the way they did ??? I though they were going to the "aliens" follow up and the when they released the recut prometheus version everone could fight about whether or not it was "canon" or not. You see the formula they could possibly be using here Then otherwise why fox did make prometheus like it is ?? I can't see the logic ........

Now Milburn being like Steve Irwin would make sense, IF he had a similar personality. Which he doesn't.

I said he was a nerd. He's detached and let his fanboy fascination over-ride logic. That's what is portrayed in the movie. It also wasn't completely obvious it was behaving like a snake or aggressively. Regardless, it's not out of character. The fact he was a biologist is not his character. You don't know what kind of biologist he was other than that he's pro-evolution. He could just be a academic who doesn't go out into the field. His personality was also already portrayed as being goofy and nerdy beforehand.

Bigdave said all of what I said all along anyway. Necronom 4 Alien rocks. But what the hell are they trying to achieve with prometheus in the long run ??

@Oduodu; Quote " From your comments it seems that you classify sci fi and then fantasy and that to a certain extent alien and prometheus might be considered more fantasy than science fiction. Am I correct ?" Sort of. It may appear that I contradict myself sometimes, but that's just confusion on my part. Sci Fi is obviously fantasy but sometimes those lines between fantasy and fact get blurred. That's where my love of ALIEN comes into play. It is both an artistic masterpiece and a believable, possible future for what the human race might come across one day. That's the best way I can describe it. Fantasy possibly merging with reality.

The poster was good though!

Perhaps a deleted scene where fifield and milburn got into a place where there were no radio reception due to the structure of the pyramid. And they just entered into that part of the pyramid just as the as janek radioed them to come back ?? With their suit maps not working perhaps due some kind of electromagnetic interference ..... I can dream can't I ????

I have defended prometheus to my best and have looked for the good in it. And there is a lot . It leaves me hungering for those answers. But if they aren't answered in p2 ten a recut would be the only logical conclusion ? Right ?(For making money??) If not then what the “»%&^£@ is the point of the movie ?? In what safe are keeping that recut ??? What's the combination ??? Is t electronic or oldstyle ?? Have people been arrested trying to steel it ? Perhaps someone has died ??? Has people been fired over recutting the movie at a very late stage and not agreeing with it ?? Necronom4 that's the spice of life. It makes me feel better because better I can let go now. An alien prequel was the movie I have been waiting for my entire life . I think its nice to thinks of movies as works of art and not just as logical entities. You have tought me something here !!!! Thanks !!! Great thread !!!
