Ridley disappointed with prometheus script? Even I am not sure if the info in the article is correct sounds a bit unlikely in places but have a look...Maybe someone can check if it's true...
"It's almost as if they are making it up as they go along" :D
Guys... I think we can all say that we are glad Prometheus was made. Its a beautiful looking Sci Fi film (which are rare) it deals in subject matter in which we are all invested, yet I have to agree is sadly let down by a sometimes silly script and plot holes you could drive a truck through. Having said that I predict that Ridley will come back with a fantastic sequel.... I really hope so... All he hs to do is swing back to a Xeno recognisable story line with solid links to the story line aand Canon we all know and love. Its a no brainer really.
2nd Disapointment i think would be how the movie was recieved, and 3rd i think there are certain aspects in hindsight that Ridley would have loved to have done differently....
Maybe add more of the Alien Horror Element, as Prometheus lacked that from Alien and any Action from Aliens, was more of a 2001 Space Oddesy/Lost in Space meets our Ancient Creators kind of a Sci Fi movie.
I think Ridley may had been disapointed with he look and scale of the Engineers, and Elders, i think they have been cut and other scenes to portray the Engineers as merely a servant race, basically just a Biological David 8 for the Elders.
Lots and lots of unsubstantiated assumptions about Ridley there, pal.
Yes assumptions, but they are not far off its not like i made it up lol
You think Ridley would not have loved to have been given a bigger budget to had been able to portray the prequel to one of the biggest movies he has ever made?
You think Ridley was happy with how the movie had done? i know he may not be major disapointed he was pleased with it himself, but i think he expected it to had done better at Box Office and settle well more with the fan base who had mixed reaction.
3rd point i was making is that yes in hindsight there may had been things Ridley would have done differently he has hinted such in some interviews, but what is done is done.
The next point was what kind of a movie he was going for, he was not trying to give us a Horror movie, but a movie that would have some shock elements, and he was not going for a action movie. Prometheus was aimed at being a bit more deeper, and a movie to pose a lot of questions about what are we here for, where do we go etc... so yes it was more of a 2001 Space Odyssey meets Mountains of Madness with a Alien movie elements and Twist thrown in... i.e some vague Xeno connection and Weyland company etc.
Ridley did say that they was not quite happy with the look of the Elder Engineers, and thats why they cut the scene and also he felt they did not need them to show us the Sacrifice and how it was important to the Engineer Race.
Thats what he said... my assumption is asking why would they remove that scene, and also look at how others was tonned down, you get more depth of the Engineers from the deleted scenes, the actual theatrical release dumbs down the Engineer to basically be just upset at Mankind for waking him up.
Look at the Final Fight full scene and you see it showed the Engineer was toying with Shaw he could have taken her out easily but he was in intrigued with her and if you see how he was fascinated with the Voilin Girl, then we have the Engineer reading a Book on the floor he found in Vickers suite, its shows him having a look and seemed interested.
These scenes all add more depth to the Engineer, cutting them out it seems they focus seems to show them to purely be just Grunts....
So its my assumption maybe they could be Clones... i did not state that Ridley said this because in my post i put (I THINK) which implies a oppinion and assumption by me and not what Ridley said.
I dont think the movie came out quite to what Fox and Ridley wanted, not really Ridleys fault as if he had more budget and time i am sure there could have been things done to add to the scale of the movie, i am sure Ridley would want a bigger budget and more time to make sure any sequels can tell and finish off the story and connections Ridley is trying to do and make the franchise do Alien full justice.

"As far as disapointments... Yes Ridley was rumoured to not be happy with some elements, but untill you talk to him yourself you can not be 100% sure what he feels"
My post was spread over two as i was covering a lot but the starting point was what is above..
It was a reply to some saying about disapointment with the movie... and my reply was regarding we have heard various rumours, seen interviews where if you took some comments from them and added them together you can get some indication to how it may appear Ridley was not 100% happy with some elements.
But the only true way is if you heard it from the horses mouth and asked Ridley yourself about it.
But you wont get far as Ridley is very proud and some what arrogant man as far as his work goes, not thats a bad thing JJ Abrahams, Cameron and George Lucas are all the same and if questioned about certain elements they are not gonna go and say yes those parts was not as good as first thought.... ask Lucas about Jar Jar Binks he wont criticize his inclusion in Phantom Mennace...
You can take on board peoples disapointments, and some things you may had done differently and change them for the sequels.. why Clone Wars and Revenge of the Sith was vast improvements.
My point is that Part 2 and a 3 if it is to be a Trilogy can adress certain things that fans and that Fox and Production team may have not been happy with in Prometheus.
9ft Engineers compared to 16ft Space Jockey.... yes this can be adressed, and by showing little of the Engineers and by not showing us the Elders, means they can indeed show us a taller Race related to the Engineers.
@Cremildo
Please dont take my comments as aimed at you or a attack ;) its not just trying to explain my previous post a bit more, and yes i guess should not put assumptions and my thoughts in same paragraph as maybe comments related to things Ridley actually said as it can be tad confusing.
I guess the Biggest Disapointment of all is the unanswered Questions and more Questions left, regarding the Alien Universe some fans simply wanted answers, and maybe the even bigger Disapointment is well, when you are dealing with a Classic Movie the Bar is raised high and any sequels, or prequels will have a lot of expectations upon them.
Movies like The Thing 1982 was never gonna be done justice by the 2011 movie unless it was near flawless and sadly it was rushed and had small budget, bigger budget more time and who knows.
The New Robocop movie for how decent it was, you can just never touch the Original.
Thats the task that Prometheus had, and its one that any sequel/prequel to Blade Runner will face, that is such a great movie is going to be very very hard to beat or do justice.

@Cremildo
Going back at your posts on this thread, in response to the Original Topic, i agree with most you are saying and my posts was regarding the so called disapointments and that well there lots these rumours but its only untill you hear it from horses mouth, then you will know what Ridley thinks...
Ridley seemed pleased with Spaights draft, seemed Fox wanted some changes, they discused it with Ridley and got Lindeloff on board and it appeared Ridley was perfectly fine with Lindeloffs changes and his comments about trying to do a movie that losely fits into Alien but to explore more than just the Xeno... fits with this.. even his comment about why people never answered who was the guy in the chair and why that cargo... this shows that the movie wanted to cover the Space Jockey and Why those ships and cargo, as opposed to being a Xeno Romp Fest.
So was Rildey dispointed... we can not be sure, i think overall he would been happy with what he did as he is very proud man and will not be critical to his own movie, but i feel he is on the whole happy as he is a person who looks at positives than negatives.
Does that mean maybe Ridley would have wanted bigger better things? I think its likely that Ridley would have wanted more and to have told the tale more, but this is why he said the movie lent towards a sequel.. He knows if he can do well with Part 1 that a Part 2 or what ever would be given the green light and then Fox may allow him more time and budget to improve upon the first part.
I dont think Ridley would be 100% bothered about some critics at the movie, as i said he is very proud of his work and if he feels he is happy with certain things, he is not going to be bothered if some dont like certain aspects, i think he takes on board critics but that dont mean he would change his plans to suit them.
By that what ever changes or plans he has for Part 2 or 3, he wont vastly allow us fans to dictate that, if he wishes to proceed with trying to show us 10ft Engineers and leave us scratching our heads at why the Space Jockey is bigger, if thats what he wants he will do it.
He if decides he does not want to show us how the Eggs come to be, then he will not, i am not sure he would do things just to please fans, he will take some stuff on board but he wont change completely.
But the biggest thing here is Fox, they own the rights and i think Ridley would negotiate certain elements with Fox, so if Fox want to push certain things i dont think Ridley would straight up say i am not doing that, its this way or im off... He would rather make some compremises to put some of his Stamp on the Franchise than to not to agree and have Fox just get some other Director in and Script Changes that would allow the franchise to go a route that Ridley would not like.

I would also like to add that the OP, claimed Ridley was disapointed with Prometheus is to be taken with a pinch of salt... as it goes on to state the movie is Hell on Earth...
I cant see how that would work, in what way would it be Hell on Earth, it cant be nothing to do with the Goo/Xeno or Engineers or there Ships... As surely in Alien and Aliens mankind was not clued up to what the Xeno and Engineers are or the Goo, yes the company had some idea but not massive.
The only way they could pull off a Goo and Engineer ship on Earth before Alien timeline is a alternative universe like Star Treks by JJ Abrahams.... and i dont want to see us go that route i want any sequels to be pure canon to Alien line of events.
Also killing Shaw off before she finds her answers? Was not the whole main plot for Paradise to be about what Shaw and David find? Ridley mentions this a number of times after Prometheus.
He actually highlights that the Engineer Homeworld is far from a place of Paradise, and that these Engineers are not nice, and that they are certainly not God.
He goes onto sugest that Shaw has no choice to repair David as without David Shaw is stuck on LV 223, and that Shaw has no choice but can she trust David, and that would David take Shaw where she wants to go...?
He then goes to say that David is carrying Hell with him and that what happens if the Goo infects Machine or God.....
All these comments to me unless Ridley and Fox have done a U-Turn show us the plan was for a portion of the movie to be about Shaw and David finding Paradise and what they find, and how what they find would view David and Shaw and what Agenda David may have up his sleave.
So i would take that over the supposed Shaw dies and Hell on Earth, post and i would assume Ridley is more happy with his work than disapointed.
