This is a FREE FOR ALL folks. In my brief time here so far,I've seen differing opinions about the Prometheus screen writer. Was he a genius who restored a sense of mystery to the series,or was he just a bad writer who left too many glaring plot holes and ruined John Sphait's origanal vision. The point of this forum is to turn the guy into either a punching bag,or defend the guy as a martyr of sorts for redeeming the franchise.I personally am a big Prometheus fan,but wasn't thrilled about Lindelof's involvement(I hate Lost),im also relieved he's not involved with Alien  Covenant and hope the collective talents of John Logan,Michael Green, and Jack Paglen can answer some of the questions Prometheus left me with.So have at it,have fun(make it funny if possible)vent your frustrations or praise the guy or whatever, and most of all don't take it to seriously.

Soft reboot is a good term.

Yeah, I liked it don't get me wrong. I was just confused as to what they wanted it to be.

I think there are two issues:

First one is that many people wanted Prometheus to be more Alien-like. I agree with the comments above, with regards to why, in that case, Lindelof's script was what they went with.

Second issue is the quality of Lindelof's script (accepting that the thrust of it was 'less Alien'). As other's have said before, Lindelof is awesome at the 'broad strokes' (thank's David!), and overall, that to me made Prometheus a good film. However, the detail is the killer, and to me, that's where the most of the problems that get talked about on this forum come from. Inconsistencies, continuation issues, elaborate set ups for weak payoffs, seemingly important situations (and obvious nods to Alien) that turn out to never be explained, or even suggest they can't be given the context they appear.

Prometheus (in Lindelof's hands) essentially became a bit like 'LOST!' in space. Lots of 'OMG' set ups with limp payoffs. It's like he expends all his creative energy coming up with a shapeshifting, biomechanical, 8 foot, polar bear looking hybrid man in black, which we are teased with to the point we almost burst. Then, when we get the big reveal, we never find out who/what it is, just that whatever it was has just come back from the grocery store with two lettuces and a carton of milk! WTF! I mean, I know I'm exaggerating, but really, that's what it's like. 'Look at these Engineers run in to this room - something must be chasing them, and that room will keep them safe'. 'Now look at this pile of Engineers, not in that special room, but all burst open and scary looking'. 'Now let's forget them, and look at the ship'. 'Now let's look at the pyramid.....ship.....pyramid.....ship....pyramid....now, forgot those other Engineers, they won't be worth investigating further - oh, look, a flute that starts a Juggernaut'

flute got me aswell, the only thing I can come up with is the computer is switched on by some sort of tone passcode where only the right pitch and tones will turn it on, but the flute itself is a bit off, why not tones made electronically by pushing buttons on a terminal and not by such a primitive form. I wanted an alien prequel and I much preferred spaights' script as a read because of this. but what I took from what ridley said before the film came out was to keep an open mind and that this is the alien/ engineer story but back at the point where humans become directly involved. ridley has often asked the very questions we the fans have asked since alien and im sure by the end of all the movies the big questions will be answered. we needed Prometheus, looking at the bigger picture, I don't think theyd have the same suspense factor if they had just dived straight into an alien film. wev asked who was the SJ in the pilots chair? what happened to him? whats the purpose of the eggs? Prometheus has given us our first taste of these factors

I think the flute (or it's sounds) is a nod to sonic technology. Again, taking a whole bunch of religious and alternative history theories from Earth's cultures and mix them all together in one film. That can only be good, right?

Hicks/Hudson i know what your saying.Early on Prometheus was meant to be a new franchise(Fox's idea)but after the backlash that it wasn't Alien enough plans changed.I also think Blomkamps 5 took a lot of steam away from a true Prometheus sequel causing Ridley change course and make an actual Alien film instead.

I really hope ridley goes more engineers themed in the AC sequel. I want to kmow the connection between them and the xeno, get an in depth look into theyr history and why they decided to wipe us out and I doubt wel get all those answers if any in AC. I did want an alien movie but now we have Prometheus I want another, more engineer themed movie
