Alien Covenant Curve Ball

Imagine if Ridley and Sigorney publicly saying they disliked AVP was actually a way of keeping us away from an intended plot line. Now I haven't lost my plot, but think about the possibility.
The engineer complex in Prometheus was actually destroyed by Predators. The piled up engineer scientists heaped after being culled; not skinned as it was an unsporting culling due to the engineers experimenting with biological weapons to kill them.
The rational being that the engineers are unable to match the predators ferocity, so they create the perfect organism to fight them. The facehuggers are slightly bigger in Covenant - right size for a predator. The engineer in Prometheus could have seen predator tech reverse engineered on Weyland or David so attacks.
An ancient war stumbled across by Weyland Yuyani; a weapon created for the predators alters itself for humans. Leading to AVP 3 in space done the right way. Or even a completely different expectation for Covenant.
Again I know very unrealistic....
As much as Ridley loves to use misinformation, I don't think he will ever visit the AVP universe. But you are right about misinformation in general! During Prometheus there were several members on the previous Prometheus forum site before getting combined/renamed here, who were clearly selling seeds of dissent through false plot lines!
"Again I know very unrealistic...."
At least you're being honest. :)
It's a shame. This idea could be cool if it wasn't for the fact that the Predator (as portrayed in the films) had a very different vibe than what the ideal would have been for it's concept. It wasn't terrible and I did enjoy the first two predator movies as a child.
That said, the concept of the predator is much bigger than what was presented in those movies. The idea itself is really cool and could have been fashioned in a way that could have matched the elegance of the Alien.
The AVP movies were tainted with the Predator films' inability to live up to the concept. IMO AVP came close to destroying the Alien image as it took the Predator's failed portrayal and infected the Xenomorphs with it for 4 hours.
The impression Ridley has given about his feelings on the AVP movies match the actual problems with the films. If the Predator films had been executed more tastefully, then the AVP movies would also have held to a higher quality. If this was all the case, then it wouldn't be so far fetched to believe that Ridley may be planning this kind of narrative for AC.
Would be a cool plot . They belong in the same universe..they fit perfectly. But they did very poorly on avps movie.
Predators are feeaking cool...and the biggest badasses in predator race we got till now since the first movie was wolf..the elite badass and berseker.
I wish we could have the ultimate predator warriors already on screen and not ,mostly, new bloods. They have a lot of potential for a real sick movie.
The bad part is they turned the alien into a domestic puppy and thats what i hate in avp,the way they portraited them was very childish.
This plot would be good tho as i like some comic book ideas a lot.
I like the concept of avp.there have been good games and books,but on film it just doesn't work out.Your right about Ridley and Sigourney not particularly liking the idea,and as far as i know they may not like the predator franchise by itself.In my opinion it seems to the predator franchise desperately wants to a part of the Alien franchise but alien wants nothing to do with them.That being said it's an intriguing idea.It would be great if it was explored in a comic or game.

ninXeno426, the whole AVP concept is sharply dividing. I'm on the side that feels that the Predator movies on their own were fine, but the combination of the two should never had happened, and as a result had further diminished the quality the Alien franchise after the 4th Alien movie. Now with Prometheus and Covenant the Alien is being revitalized with the vision of Ridley Scott. Bring back the Predators? I think not. Keep it confined to the comic books please.
Well. I like predators more as a fan for me personally i was ok with them being alone..but they do fit in same universe
And it all came because in predator 2 in the trophy display the predator had in the ship there was a xenomorph skull,and people got excited, to see that possibility.
But avp could be masterpiece but it wasnt at all.
I also dont see how you see ridley revitalizing the alien again..i see him making androids and engineers stars of the show and the alien still as a weapon..he didnt brought back the mystic again yet..on the xeno. Maybe the neomorphs will revitalise a bit the fear we have. But in xenos..at least for me i hope ac puts back on me the same respect i had for them..they are just little puppys to me now...and alien isolation is not enought to endure the fear factor for it.
Thanks sp_jockey.I obviously agree.The predator films are at there best alone just like Alien is.

Noooooooooooooooooooooooooo! (said with my best Revenge of the Sith Darth Vader voice).
Predator was great;
Everything after Predator was not great;
Predators do not belong in the Alien universe;
The end.
The first AVP is cheap fun,biggest disappointment is that it's held back by it's pg-13 rating,Reqium on the other hand is lamentable.

I still like Predator 2 and Predators.They're not as good as the first one obviously but still make decent watches.The predator franchise reminds me of Robocop a little.A great first movie followed up by two inferior sequels though As i said predator's 2 and 3 are enjoyable.Same can't be said of Robocop.

Predators was entertaining, but forgettable IMO. The new Predator movie sounds interesting too, but the whole AVP direction is more about money than it is about reason. I'm a sci fi fan, so I'll watch pretty much anything in that genre, but mash ups should be kept separate, and leave the source material pure.
Predator 4 should be pretty ambitious from what i've read.A little let down by it's cast though.

Predator is a classic... Predator 2 and Predators are not as good as the first movie, no where near as good.
I think the AVP universe was wasted.... but they could Re-boot it in future if they think it would make money... but it would have to be re-done very well and pitch itself within the Timeline of Aliens to Alien Resurrection...
And far away from Earth....

IMO, Predator needs a full blown reboot. The new Predator shouldn't stray from the original in the first film though. But it should expand it's lore and make it look less ridiculous. Those fleshy dread locks should be done away with but the rest of the appearance kept relatively the same.
There should also be NO slow motion scenes of any kind. There should be no attempt to retell the original story but, the reboot should avoid acknowledging (or overriding) the original film (or any of the follow-ups.)
I don't want the reboot to piss on the first one, but I'd like it to be it's own thing and almost reset the universe in a sense.
That would be great but i think they're billing as a true sequel to the original.It will probably considered a soft reboot though.

The Predator design is a relic from the 80's imo, a creature spawned in an era of sci-fi ripoffs from here and there.
Their armor/gadget design has adapted pretty well throughout the years but the creature underneath still looked like it escaped from a 80's B-series and managed to get a ticket into the major film industry.
I have to agree with Ridley, the Predator looks ridiculous, but I strangely welcome its creation for pure nostalgic reasons.
I don't dislike the Predator universe, in fact I find it pretty interesting, like a very dark comic book.
On the other hand, Giger's biomechanical designs are timeless.
we got avp due to fans wondering what would happen if the 2 came face to face. the idea is a good one though not completely needed as far as either franchise goes. they were done poorly and did a lot of damage to both. im looking forward to the new predator movie and hope we see more behind the scenes look into the predator, much the same as I want with the xeno and engineers
