Is that the docking station (below oval opening) for an Engineer ship in front of the temple dome that was described in the media?
High contrast enhanced.
As far as Scots comments there was a alternative interpretation where the Humans was replaced by the Xenomorph.
sometimes i do wonder if Ridley Scott even knows what he is on about lol.
So i guess it throws everything up into the air...

"sometimes i do wonder if Ridley Scott even knows what he is on about lol."
It isn't all etched in stone when they start filming BigDave.
I remember that they tossed around the idea of a pyramid instead of the Engineer teardrop ship in the beginning of Prometheus. That was scrapped because it was too "Stargate".
Yeah ;)
I am mainly on about how is comments seem to change a few things, Prometheus 2 has had a lot of evolution from discusions with Lindeloff where they had ideas to where they would go next but he was busy and so Scott got in 2013 Paglen to work on a script, which had a number of re-writes and then i think it was March 2014 Green was brought in and they finally had a Draft done by October 2014 and From then to November was the Process of fleshing out some rough concepts for that Plot... which is when a number of people who worked on the movie came in to then take this rough ideas and evolve them.
John Logan was brought in the Summer of 2015 to re-write the draft a few times until we had a Change of Direction and Alien Covenant.
Its just some of Ridleys comments made after Alien Covenant had finished shooting etc from Summer 2016 to Recently seem to change a bit... even some of his comments a few months ago seemed to point to differences than his recent ones.
so we really dont know what is going on as far as the WHO Made it and WHY (Xenomorph) and other things.

Or is it depending how we read his comments.... here is a prime example.
“They’re going to go to the planet where the engineers came from, and come across the evolving creature that they had made,” related Scott. “Why did they make it? Why would they make such a terrifying beast? It felt bio-mechanoid, it felt like a weapon. And so the movie will explain that, and reintroduce the alien back into it.”
This would lead us to the THEY being the Engineers? this evolving creature?
Which contradicts
"We’ve reinvented the idea of Alien, which is that Covenant gets us a step closer to who and why was this thing designed to make human beings. And if you think it’s them,” Scott said, gesturing to the monolithic figures of the Engineers surrounding us, “you’re dead wrong.”
The First Statement was December 2015 a Month after Alien: Covenant was announced and 5 Months after John Logan was brought in, while the 2nd Statement was made in June 2016 to a group of reporters on Set that was Embargoed until March 1st 2017 this is when it was released to the Public.
Why the contradiction?
Unless we read the first statement wrong and the THEY is referring to the first mention of THEY in the statement "They’re going to go to the planet where the engineers came from"
So they are... as in Covenant Crew (Humans) or David and Shaw?

BigDave, I believe the "they're going" mentioned above in December 2015 was Covenant crew and "they made" refers to David 8 and Dr. Elizabeth Shaw.
I believe what you see attacking the Covenant crew is the evolving creatures David 8 created. I can't tell if Dr. Shaw was involved in creating the creature.
