MemberTrilobiteMay-04-2017 4:51 PMAlien- no brainer for me and that is not due to current hype. I liked SW in the late 70s and early 80s but grew to find them too wholesome. The Alien franchise never gets old for me and I was always drawn to the darker stuff.
Sorry SW fans- I dropped that series like a hot potato when I got burned with that emo coming of age vibe I got with Episode 1.

Frankly, my brain just stalls out when I try envisioning the Binksomorph. :)
...so, I thus consign the Binksomorph to the purview of the Noblest of Cephalopods...

Star Wars, as a space opera, is a lot of fun, but I don't go to the movies for sunshine, lollipops and rainbows. If I'm paying upwards of $10 for a box of Junior Mints, I'd better see blood, guts, spit and ass going 4 different directions and plenty of it! ;-)

Oh I know, I was just mentioning Star Trek to show that it wouldn't be too hard for me to give up the Star Wars franchise because it's not my favorite to begin with :)

MemberTrilobiteMay-04-2017 11:09 PMDirtWolf Star Trek is part of my genetics really. I understand your meaning. I loved SW as a kid in the 70s and early 80s and don't GAF about it now. I loved ST as a kid and still watch it to this day. Big difference imo.

MemberNeomorphMay-04-2017 11:44 PMI love Star Trek but I hate it when they over use the Klingons or time travel. I heard in the new movie they want to make Kirk meet up with his father. So trite.

dk
MemberTrilobiteMay-05-2017 12:09 AMTime travel was in TOS so it doesn't bother me too much- but that was then when it was episode specific and seems weaker for excuses to make movies.

MemberChestbursterMay-05-2017 1:40 AMI liked Star Wars growing up. Followed them all closely just as I did with the Alien franchise once I got my courage at 11.
I have seen both of the new additions to Star Wars and enjoyed them. That being said, if I woke up tomorrow and Star Wars no longer existed, I'd be largely unaffected. The Alien franchise was actually integral to my development as a person. It heavily affected my interests and my personal world view.
Anytime I hear people getting up in arms about some issue or another I often think to myself "well at least you haven't been facehugged yet."

MemberOvomorphMay-05-2017 4:03 AMStar wars, no contest for me.
I am interested by the Xenomorph creature and some characters from all movies, but i am disapointed and underwhelmed by the engineers development to now.
On the other hands, i am fascinated by several concepts of Star Wars especially the force, i love the Siths(which are way more interesting than the Jedi) and i think that Star Wars Universe is more rich and more entertaining than the Alien Universe.
May the force be with everyone !

MemberFacehuggerMay-05-2017 5:34 AMALIEN, hands down, it's very influential and more relatable and violent at the same time.... This story that I am writing has some influence from Alien even Star Trek, Avatar and TRON, and I have to add: because of the Star Wars hype, we never got to see TRON 3, we are going to get a reboot with Jared Leto of all people, so back to what I was saying: Star Wars? Meh... it's just the triumphant good vs evil story. Alien is more realistic, and when you get influence from the Alien franchise and a bunch of other ones to create a story and not Star Wars, You know that you gotta eliminate the latter.
And remember FOX used to have Star Wars in their stable, they have a slice left which was A New Hope... and Ridley himself said that Star Wars was brilliant.
With that being said, someone needs to make a drawing with the xenomorphs, engineers, facehuggers and hammerpedes (while hissing) running away from Jar Jar Binks

MemberChestbursterMay-05-2017 6:46 AMIf the Alien Universe and media was as well developed and complex as the Star Wars Universe was, I'd definitely say Alien hands down, but since SW has really become a mythology/culture all on its own, then I'd have to say Star Wars if I was stuck on a desert island with all the materials of either Universe.
I'd definitely say "Alien/Prometheus" has a LOT of potential, for sure. I "enjoy" Alien more than any of the Star Wars movies, so it's a matter of perspective here...
