As near as I can tell, in some manner the small quadrapedals have some beneficial effect to Human life and physiology.
Also there seems to be considerable entertainment value to Humans from assorted non-destructive antics as well as bouts of mock-combat.

It is worth noting that in Human history at one point an ancient civilization worshipped them as gods or representatives of such.

Blackwinter-witch Acknowledged. It is also interesting that one named Data cared for such a creature and strangely named it Spot although it had no spots. Perhaps the name was designated after cleaning exhaust leaks on the cabin floor.

Just a few years ago I was an x slave mine worker, but now i am a recruitment agent for the intergalactic Star League of federation fighters. I travel the dark sectors of the universe repairing arcade video game consoles and vintage Weyland models.

If the price is right I sometimes bounty hunt.

I was recently called for an obligated job.

Once I arrived i found out that I was summoned by a man that  seemed to look exactly like me.

He sat in a holographic office that resembled a spaceship cockpit.

 I was forced to "retire" him in his pilots chair.

That's when i bursted on to the scene. 

He may have mummified in his seat over thousands of years,

but to me its only been 4 years...

Centauri Greetings and welcome. You mention repairing older game systems. Do you have coordinates for the notorious refuse site where almost one million copies of the ET game for the Atari 2600 were buried?

Possibly, however in backtracking on a colloquialism search, linguistically the Quadraped associated to the Data-unit is also named 'Cerberus', owing to how Human linguistics has historical variances.
Human language is an extremely odd and chaotic structuring when viewed across the millenia.

It also interesting to note the Nostromo had a quadraped attached to it's crew, and that the primary Human involved with the quadraped survived as did the quadraped...

Blackwinter-witch Fascinating. These quadrupeds seem to flourish despite the apparent odds against them. My handler has expressed that "one does not have a......"cat" he says. The cat has the one." I believe my handler plagiarized another biological creature called Ghalager.

Hypothesis: Feline Quadrapeds as 'Perfect Lifeform' based upon survival ability and manipulation of tool-making species as well as other non-tool-making species.

Also note: Feline Quadrapeds readily adapt Human technology to their own needs. RE: Roomba, and many extant examples.

Perhaps S.O.-937 was controlled test of Feline Quadraped survival vs Apex-Omega predator species?
