Who will Ridley Scott pass the torch to next?

Who will Ridley Scott pass the torch to next? Maybe it's up to 20th Century Fox, who knows.

We still have one more, maybe two in total from Scott, which raises the curiosity of who has the chops to direct an ALIEN flick after Scott's story is told?

Choose your top three directors, one being your most desired to direct an ALIEN film, and a fourth as the wild card.

Only select directors who are currently alive/working, for practicality. After the name of the director, list the movie(s) they are best known for or your favorite(s) within their filmography.

Please exclude James Cameron, David Fincher, Jean-Pierre Jeunet, and Neill Blomkamp from your list.

Here's mine:

1. Bong Joon Ho - Snowpiercer

2 . Alfonso Cuarón - Children of Men, Y Tu Mamá También

3. Nacho Vigalondo - Colossal

4. Two part wild card -

    Gabe Ibáñez - Automata

Richard Kelly - Donny Darko, Southland Tales

We had a thread about this, but here I go again with an updated list:

1. Alex Garland (Ex_Machina, Annihilation)

2. Gareth Edwards (Monsters, Rogue One)

3. J.J. Abrams (Star Trek, The Force Awakens)

4. Guillermo Del Toro (Pan's Labyrinth, Pacific Rim)

5. Michael Bay [the wild card] (Transformers)

New African-American Director-Get Out

Lastly.......anybody but Ridley Scott...the man has lost his mind when he has CREATIVE INPUT with STORY,CHARACTERS, and EDITING. He films too much stuff then butchers the film in the editing room . Alien Covenant is a steaming pile of varmint dung as evidenced by box office audiences avoiding AC like the plague once news broke of how terrible it's plot and characters were.

David Twohy is an interesting choice.

Capt Torgo - So, Jordan Peele is the director of Get Out.

You could have just said the director of Get Out instead of referring to him by his ethnicity, and what you posted sounds quasi-racist.

The purpose of this thread is to embrace all film directors with open arms.

Not that I would ever want to see RS leave Alien but this is an interesting topic.

- David Michod - The Rover (best film of 2014)

- Nicolas Winding Refn - Drive, Only God Forgives (never would happen but if someone could make more beautiful alien movies than Scott than it would be this guy)

- Lars Von Trier - Antichrist, Melancholia (Imagine how tense these films would be)

- Robert Eggers - The Witch (Oh man if it (his Alien) was anything like The Witch we could have the best movie in the series.

- Denis Villeneuve - Arrival (Obvious but still. He's like the Edgar Wright of drama/action, he can't make a bad one).

- Tarsem Singh - The Fall (Now the fall was nothing short of a masterpiece but his other films were lacking. If he put his talent to the already established Alien lore he could make an amazing film.

Curve Ball:

- Wes Anderson - Rushmore, Life Aquatic (Another one who can not make a bad film [well Moonrise was w/e but still].

NassaDane -

I dig your style. Very nice selection of directors!

Totally agree with you about Nicolas Winding Refn.

A Lars Von Trier Alien film would be so intense!

How about Jonathan Glazer: Under the Skin and Sexy Beast?

Thanks! Appreciate it.

I was just thinking there are a lot of Asian directors I wouldn't mind seeing either.

I think that it's just as important to get to notch writer(s) at this point.  You need a good director that can get behind good writer(s) and support their best ideas.

Ripleys_Ghost - the purpose of this thread is to discuss other filmmakers and is purely based on the work of other directors who could helm an ALIEN flick after Ridley's prequels.

Making a film is a collaboration of many individuals, writers and all, this is common knowledge.

How about you add to this thread with some of your chosen directors.

Wow, just saw your edit. Under the Skin was phenomenal (and I don't know how I've never heard of Sexy Beast, that is on my to watch list now!) That director is a definite.

What about Wong Kar Wai The Grandmaster and Chungking Express? Definitely would be a more somber love story esque kind of alien movie however.

Ridley's son Luke could be a good choice. He's done a couple projects, both very much within the subject matter and esthetic we're used to seeing with Ridley. Morgan and LOOM.

Sadly I can't embed this here but it's Luke Scott's Blade Runner esque short film, LOOM. It's set in the Blade Runner universe.

NassaDane - Chungking Express is raw and gritty, Wong Kar Wai is an excellent choice.

I highly recommend you watch Sexy Beast, it's mesmerizing, and the acting is top notch. Watch it on Blu-ray if you can.

Facehuggers! - If Alejandro Jodorowsky were to direct an ALIEN film, it would more than likely just be a documentary about the making of it.

Stephen Spielberg - Jaws (The man knows how to pace a film)

Paul W.S. Anderson - Resident Evil (Just the first one though, he can make a decent thriller)

Gareth Edwards - Monsters (Pretty good indie flick)

The Wachowskis - Cloud Atlas (For a sprawling mythos, they made it pretty decent)

WILDCARD - John Carpenter (no explanation needed)

Danny Boyle - The Beach, 28 Days Later, Sunshine

Vincenzo Natali - The Cube, Splice

Hicks/Hudson - Paul W.S. Anderson. Sorry, but NO!!! We don't want another AVP. The others are cool though

The only other director I would trust with this franchise is David Cronenberg, but he's almost as old as Riddles so...
