Does a movie shown in 3D motivate you to see it?

The last movie I saw filmed in 3D was a bad Resident Evil movie. I saw it at home without goggles. I saw where the 3D was supposed to be but the movie still sucked and the 3D experience would not have helped. What is next- movies being shown in VR?

Filming in 3D drives up costs for everyone from the movie crew to the ones sitting in theater seats. Is the experience worth it to you? Would those movies be as good if they were traditional 2D?

Thankfully 3D productions seem to be on the wane. They are largely a waste of time and poor quality in my opinion. The single biggest problem is that although they generate a stereoscopic image, there is still only one focal plane. You can't use your eye muscles to focus on details at a particular distance. That doesn't fool my brain, and just leads to a bit of eye strain.

It takes more than that to keep me interested. I want a good story and well written characters.

The main issue with 3D is that it is false advertising. A 3D movie isn't 3D it is layered, similar to the effect we see in a child's pop-up book.

Filmmakers argue that 3D can be used to heighten the movie experience and make the audience feel as though they are within a scene. I call bullshit.

Ever watch the first Independence Day in theatres or with a good surround system? The movies "exploding" titles create an immersive effect through sound placement alone. Or how about the opening scene to Revenge of the Sith, without 3D and with surround sound that scene is a showcase of why 3D isn't needed.

True 3D would be VR, but the technology to make a fully VR movie is beyond commercial viability right now. Maybe once Elon Musk has moved us all to Mars. Until then give me good cinematography and sound design any day!

True 3D would be VR

How would that even work theatrically? LOL! There would be no need for 100 people to gather in a theater in seats all wearing VR goggles.
