MemberPraetorianDecember 20, 2018Seems like it's been that long any way lol.So...any thoughts on this potentially big year for Alien?Aside from the obvious fact that they're celebrating Alien's 40 th(!!!)ij epic fashion I just hope it's not a damn series...

I don't think 2019 will be a big year for the franchise. Not to be a Negative Ned, but I don't think we need a 40th Anniversary edition either. The blue ray Anthology is King imo.
I would actually like to see a series of some sort.

I never saw the Terminator series, but the Alien verse could be done Black Mirror style and appeal to pretty much every faction of the fan base.
Novels are fine but I like the video medium- just a matter of opinion.
Agreed.I'm behind on novels but recent comics have been quite good.Haven't seen Black Mirror but i know it's a Twilight Zone Esq anthology series.Sound idea to be fair.

Black Mirror is worth getting Netflix imo. Imagine the Alien universe with unknown actors and good writing, characters and production. One episode would be about xenos while another would focus on Weyland Yutani. After that, there is all manner of cool commercial free content. There, Netflix- shameless plug. Where is my discount lol!
They are in a PICKLE...
What is there to Celebrate? a ALIEN 40th Anniversary could be in the Cards, i think thats Guaranteed as a Milk the Cash Cow.
They cant really do a Box Set of ALIEN to ALIEN Covenant... well again they could to MILK the Cow.... but it just wont work really because we have not yet had any Conclusion.
Maybe 2019 could be a year of Announcements to Expand on the Franchise... but i feel there is little chance its a Announcement of any Sequel to ALIENS, or ALIEN RESURRECTION or ALIEN COVENANT not as far as Theatrical/Movies are concerned.
But there are other Less Financial Risky ways to expand/explore the Franchise and maybe this is the ROUTE that Disney will be going?

Disney could fund more fan created shorts- but more robust than The Crossing. It can happen- someone high up just needs to sign off on it.
I think the viable outcome for such things DK could come from Video Games, as Games are very Cinematic Nowadays and so the use of Cinematic Scenes in Video Games could be a way to explore certain things and if these New Ideas go down well, they could consider taking it further by going the TV Short route.
For Example a Cinematic Game, thats Survival Horror that is different to Alien Isolation, but also not all out Action like Colonial Marines could be a viable option.
a Survival Horror like the Perspective of Isolation, that has Guns and more Action and so would be more in the MOLD of a Resident Evil.
For example... playing a Perspective of a incoming Mission to Investigate the Aftermath of Prometheus or Alien Covenant and so exploring Planet 4 and what horrors are left behind. or LV-223.
We are never going maybe get those places explored in such manner on Screen. A Book would be viable, but a Video Game would give us a more Cinematic Experience that places us in the Peril... And could really work if done well.

Regarding a game, the only thing i know about Alien Blackout (if that's indeed what it's to be called)is that it will be tied to Covenant and Prometheus some how.All that's really been said is that it'll take place in the now expanded universe.

I've been going through Titan Books Complete Aliens Omnibus novel re-releases. Some of these were damn hard to find as a paperback release so these eReader packages are great, to finally be able to read the ones you may have missed.
They have the novels paired as a single release.
ie. currently reading Vol 6 which has Cauldron and Steel Egg together!!

ninXeno426 Original Sin in next on my hit-list! Can't wait to give it a read, I love Resurrection too. It has the best artistic/visual styling of the Alien films, and the best shit-kicker characters since the original film.
The premise of Steel Egg as the 'original encounter' just piqued my interest too much to wait lol .
