I think regarding the Future of any Movie, a lot depends on not only how much Disney Gauge the Fans Interest but also on if they see it as Financially Viable
Reaction to the Amanda Ripley Animated Shorts was mixed, because they consisted of re-using Cut Scenes and adding a few more that were not quite as smooth as the Cut Scenes from Alien Isolation and i think Fans were expecting something else other than a Video Game Cut Scene series of Shorts.
Reaction to the Live Action Shorts will be interesting...
The options for Disney would be...
*Live Action TV/Streaming which could cost $3-5M per Episode (spending less than $3M could be very limiting). Spending more than $5M would allow for more Special Effects and Well Known Cast.
*Animated CGI TV/Streaming Series which would cost maybe $250k-1M per Episode (depending on the Quality and who they Cast for Voice Overs).
*A Live Action Movie would surely cost $50-100M (even doing it on a Budget would depend on level/amount of Special Effects and who they Cast).
I think Miss Weaver is beating the Drums of War for a ALIEN movie, Cameron also appears to be Championing a return to the Franchise, its likely their interest revolved around getting a ALIENS sequel done rather than carry on with any continuation to the Prequels though.
The Prequels are in a LOT of trouble despite Emma Watts being behind Ridley Scott as far as making a continuation with his ideas, ONCE they get the Right Story.... The Problem is a lot of Fans are just NOT interested in a Movie where David will be one of the Main Focus of...
The longer a Prequel is taking before the Green Light then the less likely it will be about David, well because surely a Android does-not Age?
But there are ways around this... from having a After-Math where David would be just as like Bishop was in Alien 3, and even open up the Possibility that David could Transfer his Soul into a NEW Body. Or Evolve his Current one.
