Audio Problems in King of the Monsters

MemberOvomorphNov-22-2019 5:48 AMI have a few comments from a Video Editors POV. First of all I loved a lot about the film. However, I'm a video and audio editor by trade and the #1 problem I had with the film was the Audio Mix. The music track was way too low under the action! Music is SO IMPORTANT in the overall excitement and mood it sets for every scene. If you listen to the musical score all on it's own, it Fantastic! but you can barely hear it in the film. I especially loved the music track for the Rodan scenes fighting the Jets & chasing the Argo. I believe the film editors and specifically the audio editors/final mixers really dropped the ball with this film. I think this should be communicated to the producers of Godzilla vs. Kong before it's too late, so they don't make the same mistake again. It's an easy thing to fix in post production editing. Other than that, I'd really like to see more Monster scenes in daylight WITHOUT rain if possible!. I think that aspect was Very Well done in Kong: Skull Island. I think this point has already been echoed by many many many other fans already. Don't get me wrong, I still Loved GKOTM, and have watched it over 10 times now, but moving forward please, please "Pump Up" the Music tracks in these films. It drives the action home, build excitement and warrants multiple viewing. If anyone knows how to get this message communicated to the Producers and Editors of the upcoming GvK film, please help get it to them. These comments are from a professional Videographer & Editor for over 30 years, and a loyal Godzilla fan since 1968.! Here's hoping or a successful MonsterVerse moving forward for years to come.

MemberChestbursterNov-22-2019 7:33 AMThat's some really good advice and criticism. I really do hope this goes out to the team making Godzilla vs. Kong.

MemberNeomorphNov-22-2019 9:58 AMYeah, that bugged me a lot too. Toho did the same thing quite a bit in Shin Godzilla. So many awesome tracks wasted!
If people weren't lazy, we wouldn't try to be efficient. If we weren't efficient, we'd never get anything done.

MemberOvomorphNov-22-2019 10:45 AMIt's such an easy fix too. I edit together Music, Sound Effects and Dialog all the time. In my opinion the Music score really creates the mood and keeps the excitement factor going. The editors should take a note from all the Marvel Movies. They really drive home the music to the edited scenes (Cutting the film TO The Music). Scenes with dialog they keep the music under more so you can hear the dialog clearly, But! when the action starts it ramp back up to 70% volume Music/30% Sound FXs. GKOTM was more like 30% Music/70% Sound FXs.

MemberNeomorphNov-22-2019 11:15 AMSpecial effects are tough, of course, but changing the audio levels of music? That usually only took me a few minutes if I was in a rush, and if I REALLY wanted it to be perfect, like in sync with the video and perfect leveling of the music throughout the couple minute film, about half an hour. Of course it would take much longer for a feature length film, but since the already have the syncing part done, raising the volume of music and decreasing the volume of sound effects (especially only during action scenes) shouldn't be much of a problem at all. I hope they do fix this in GVK, though. In my opinion, music leveling is one of the "easy" (not really easy, but one of the "easier" parts) parts of editing, so I don't think it would be hard at all. Especially with people with plenty of experience in editing feature length movies compared to somebody like ME, who isn't even all that good an editor XD

Zwei Wing is the best singing duo. Change my mind.

MemberOvomorphNov-22-2019 12:15 PMSeems we all agree,"Pump that Music Track" Any idea how to get this communicated to the production team on GvK? ASAP!
By the way, my absolute favorite track in GKOTM was the Rodan/Jet/Argo Chase scene! I can watch it over and over and over. Best scene in the film IMO? The Music alone Kicks Ass!

MemberNeomorphNov-22-2019 12:25 PMI love that one too! Not sure which is my favorite though...
I mean, you could stalk Dougherty until you have his routine down to the second. Then, kidnap him and force him to tell his editors to do this! /s
I honestly have no idea lol

MemberOvomorphNov-22-2019 12:33 PMIf anyone in this forum know a way to contact Dougherty or his post production team for GvK.
Please let me know and I'll work on it from my end. Thanks!
Let the Fans be heard, and "The Music" !
I'm a professional Videographer/Video & Audio Editor with 30 years experience. Maybe they might listen to my opinion! And everyone who agrees, please help me get this out there!
Thanks Everyone!
