Well, I can safely say Episode 5 was the best episode so far. The flashback to the Maginot crash and the conspiracy around what caused the outbreak was revealed but it was the Alien-esque aesthetics, pacing and overall execution that really sold this episode for me above the others.

As for what the episode revealed, we know Kavalier orchestrated the entire crash. He had prior knowledge of the Xenomorph and the specimens and bribed one of the Maginot crew members to destroy the ship, get the specimens loose and target the trajectory for Prodigy territory.

The T. Ocellus vs. Xenomorph battle was kinda fun as well, the way the little alien uses its host as a savior in this episode begging the question – is it calculated and saw the crew dying as a risk to its survival? Or is it an aggressive organism focused on dominating its environment?

The Xenomorph has no eyes so it wasn't susceptible to the Ocellus attack, but the Ocellus managed to amplify its Human host capabilities and go toe-to-toe with the Xenomorph for a brief moment.

We got a glimpse of Weyland-Yutani HQ and the Western side of civilization in this future world.

Ultimately I really enjoyed this episode a lot. Unlike previous episodes, I don't really have much to nitpick, I think this was the episode that was shown to advanced screenings to sell the show – cause it really did.

What did you think of it?

The xenomorph patiently stood right in front of the captain yet does not kill her (!) trips her with its tail (?) allows her to get back up on her feet (!!) and she successfully runs away in the worst Disney chase scene since Leia and the bandits in the terrible Obi-Wan series.  The xenomorph charges after her way faster than any human could possibly run yet she outruns it. I get that some characters have plot armor but this is ridiculous. First Hermit and now this captain avoid getting killed in encounters with the xeno despite being served on a silver plate. Who writes this?? Yes she does get killed at the end so I guess the xenomorph realized it's a killing machine after all. Also in the beginning of the episode no one seems to react a lot to the fact that two of their crew members were facehugged and one of them (previous captain) having his whole throat melted by acid. That young kid even made jokes in this inappropriate situation. It's so off-putting and unrealistic despite that I really try my best to suspend my disbelief at all times but this is Idiocracy-level idiotic.Morrow singlehandedly carried this episode and just barely saved it from being almost unwatchable. Nitpicks (and there are many) include the "perfect organism" xenomorph (well not anymore thanks to Disney) struggling in a fight against a possessed human, the editing with occasional scene fade outs killing any ounce of suspense, Ikea-quality glass cylinders that are supposed to contain highly dangerous organisms, hentai tentacle monster tapping the glass to warn the scientist (lol), a junior/trainee engineer so shockingly stupid I'm surprised he even manages basic daily routines, and so many throwbacks to Alien that even Fede Alvarez' love letter Romulus fade in comparison. The good parts were the scenes with Morrow, some impressive CGI (especially the facehuggers and the xenomorph) the shootout scene against the traitor and the appearance of the infected senior engineer, looking like he came straight from The Thing. This series is like a high-budget YouTube fan film. Severely flawed yet occasionally entertaining.

Nothing will ever be worse than the Leia / bandits chase scene 🤣

But yeahhhhh I'm still confused why the Xenomorph was so selective with who it killed and who it toyed with. Is there a reason? The Xenomorph has often been an inquisitive organism as much as it is aggressive. My speculation is that it's simply playing with its food, so to speak.

The Ticks don't need a living victim, that was shown twice in this episode, first with the dead rat and second with the freshly-dead crew member Clem (AKA Chlamydia!).

Found this, from the creator himself, re: T.Ocellus being 'good':"I think it was creating a distraction to allow the creature to do its thing,” Hawley says. “As you keep watching in the season, one might begin to suspect that this one [species] is smarter than the other ones, and that it thinks in a longer-term way."

"Lots of plot holes, starting with the first movie. They all need to be addressed." You sure you don't want to start a topic on this? You're saying this everywhere. Lay out all your questions and we'll discuss.

First time I heard their name I was like - wait what? 💀😂 But yeah, very true. These ticks will feast on anything, making them a major hazard to any ecosystem.

By the sounds of it, the Ocellus has no alignment or allies with any other organism but is able to calculate and anticipate events to preserve its own self interests. Not good, not evil, just a survivor in any environment. Of course us as Humans will try to find reason to adapt Human traits to it, but ultimately it’s just another sentient being trying to avoid death. I’m liking the Ocellus more and more as the series goes on, however I would have liked the Xenomorph to have been given a little more respect for it’s intelligence but Hawley wanted it to be more like a “bug” again. 🙄

I had to quit half way through this episode. I agree it was the most "alien" this series felt so far but the writing is just unbearably bad. too many dumb characters doing dumb things. im done with this show.

Oh, true that is quite possible, the acid burn being from when they tried removing the Facehugger off the captain. That makes sense. The tick aliens though – they do pose a serious risk, if they get to a body of water, no telling how aggressive they could multiply and spread. They were in the water bottle and didn't grow. The baby ticks were put in the water bottle to infect a host rather than to grow.   The real danger is in enough of these babies get into a water supply source on earth (New Siam or Neverland most likely) to infect other species.   The ticks feed on blood but it doesn't have to be human and maybe doesn't have to be from a living organism.  Then those babies grow and probably make more babies and infect more hosts and so on and so on.  That's when you get a disaster level event.

So, these monster companies just think they can kill off the population and own the Earth? Is that the plan?

I don't think that's the intended goal, but more so a potential consequence for their inability to handle containment of these organisms. No one would knowingly or intentionally poison their own home unless its thoroughly infested.

The writing definitely leaves much to be desired, but we've got 3 more episodes to go! Aren't you curious how it ends?
