UNFORTUNATELY...... there is NO connection between the Movies.
Aesthetically the Ships are similar but up close they are also Quite Different. I can see the reference made about the ALIEN from ARRIVAL and the Trilobite from Prometheus..... however the Aliens in Arrival you dont really see them fully.

Here is the Concept Art by Carlos Huante for the Movie ARRIVAL
In the Movie we only get a Short Glimpse of them (Heptapods) Full Shot.

However....... here is where it could have been Interesting as far as Connected with Aesthetically Similar Alien Species but NOT in anyway actually Connected.
There was another Concept Work for one of the Alien Prequels that as similar to the Arrival Heptapods Concept but i cant seem to come across it.
But here is ONE of the Engineer (Whale) Concepts for Prometheus.
.jpg)
You can Slightly see some resemblance to the Heptapods from Arrival.
Here are some other Heptapod Concepts that are Similar to some of the Neomorph Concepts for Alien Covenant but also Trilobite for Prometheus.

The TOP Concept for the Heptapod (3rd Image Above) is Very Very Similar to a Earlier Concept of a Spore/Face Hugger from Alien Engineers Draft (early Prometheus story)

EDIT... Found the other Concept for Prometheus that i was on about that looks like the Aliens (Heptapod) in Arrival.

So depending on WHICH of the Concepts from the Alien Prequel and Arrival then we could have had TWO very similar looking Movies Aesthetically...
But that does not mean they are ever intended to be connected... i think what my Reply does show is that some Ideas for the Alien Prequels could have given us something more Lovecraftian than we GOT or indeed what we had the the Original Franchise.
The ships do look similar and I can sort of see the creature comparison. That is an interesting observation!
Arrival and then Prometheus:

I have JUST seen Prometheus, and you know what? The Arrivals' Heptopods do look uncannily like the thing that was "born" to the lady in Prometheus, the Facehugger, but then that birthed Alien(?). Plus they have the same ship in both films...
So, in many many moons into the future the Prometheus' Heptopods (Facehuggers) have evolved into the Arrivals Heptopods, maybe. It makes so much sense in so many ways, I hope to God that this be the plot to future films.
I think it is very good, I understand the difficulty in it, because I am very bad at this, driving directions
Nice to Point that out Ingeniero
With these Earlier Drafts the Aurora that Lope was talking about was a Force Field that radiated from the North/South Poles of the Planet... as some kind of Protective Field for the ENTIRE Planet that Prevented any Ships from Leaving...
These were Created by Engineer like Space Constructions that the Covenant Ship destroyed that then Disabled the Force Field and Enabled the Rescue attempt by Tennessee.
This Force Field however was NOT used in the Movie, but we could Speculate that the Bombardment Scene had taken that idea and applied it to a more SMALLER and Local Protective DOME Force Field.
You would kind of have to look at it from their POV... surely the Engineers would have some Security/Protection Measures.
I think they are a Arrogant and Naive Species who likely go and Visit Other Worlds but Insure they are NEVER given Advanced Knowledge to be able to achieve even what we on Earth have in the 20th Century and so they likely had means to Quell any Species that they deem were Advancing too FAR...
Or more likely and in the case of Earth... they maybe felt that WHEN they abandoned us, then we would likely go back to mere Cavemen than EVER advance to Explore Space....
This Naive Act had proved to be a HUBRIS and their Downfall on Planet 4.... they also may have been so Naive as to think that NONE of their OWN kind would ever Return to USE the Biological Warfare on their own kind.
Hence the Defenses were NOT prepared/good enough for a BLACK-GOO Bombardment, or they was NOT aware of what the Experiments etc on LV-223 had become!
Certainly Ignorant Guy ;)

Going back to the TIME of Prometheus and Concept Stages, (Originally we had Centipede Creatures) but looking at the Black Goo it seemed to Evolve Certain Organisms where it would Maintain some of the Organisms Traits but then Replace others with some other Organisms Traits...
Some of the Concepts for Prometheus and prior (Alien Engineers) had indicated Organisms with a Atheistic/Traits of Mollusca Organisms, The Trilobite Certainly having Quite a lot of that Aesthetic, but also this is how the Face Hugger Stage of STARBEAST was also described.
At that Time we could Ponder or be Drawn to Speculate that the Black Goo had traced its Origins to some Organism that had Characteristics of a Mollusca that for Some Reason the Engineers saw something with this Organisms to Invest in Re-Engineering and Experimenting with them.
Sorry Chli for this reply being OFF-TOPIC.
However... as i said before, and this is in Regards to Speculation and Broader Exploration of any Genetic Memory concerning the Xenomorph.
I think a lot of Fans expected the Franchise to be explored in a more ALIEN and Lovecraftian way than what we got... And while a bit OFF-TOPIC and especially in Context to the Idea/Story that Michelle was exploring.
I think that some Lovecraftian Elements should be Explored, i think going back to the Starbeast should be Explored, and so if the Starbeast was Explored as a more Lovecraftian/Mollusk like Species that had a Parasitical Procreation where say they can PASS-ON some Genetic Memory with their Procreation, then this would make this Species being able to IN EFFECT be able to be Re-Incarnated.
The Original Idea of Jon Spaights which i explored here THE ENGINEERS: THE VERGE OF GODHEAD
Had shown the Engineers were TRYING to gain some kind of Immortality, but in this idea it was to attempt to By-Pass a Physical Form here is roughly what that idea was "The Engineers believe themselves to be on the verge of a Great Transcendence in which they will abandon their physical form and flight into the ten-dimensional multiverse as Creatures of pure energy"
This was NEVER really Explored in the Prequels, However when trying to make a Connection and looking at STARBEAST then if the Starbeast Organism has a Procreation where they could PASS-ON their Memories and become Re-incarnated then this would be some kind of Immortality
Surely this would be something a Ancient Race of would be wanna be Gods would be interested in, in a attempt to gain some kind of Re-Incarnation... so that would give a Good Reason for their Experiments.
This could work with Michelle's idea of this being Unintended for the use of Mankind and maybe the Engineers and so that if a Starbeast was Explored then it could be that NO-MATTER how they try, the Engineers could ONLY produce Organisms with the Parasitic Life-Cycle and NEVER gain the Genetic Memory, or that the Starbeast Spores could ONLY pass this onto a Certain Host Organism and so any Organism like Humanoids would instead be DEALT a Curse instead...
Funny enough some 250+ Years after ALIEN the USM Company manage to Clone/Obtain a Xenomorph from Ripley DNA.... but HOWEVER... it is the Ripley Clone with MIXED DNA that had Gifted Genetic Memory which we can attribute to the Xenomorph DNA.
So in this IDEA... then Ironically Ripley 8 has become what the Engineers maybe had attempted to Achieve?
This of-course is just to Speculate how we could FIT in a Deeper Connection to Genetic Memory and the Xenomorph, it is in No-Way to suggest this was ever the Plan.
I think it really depends on what we CONSIDER as Canon as every Comic and Novel are not really Consistent with every detail.
The Video raises a Good Point regarding the LACK of Human Bodies on Hadleys Hope and so we can Safely Assume that Bodies where taken to the HIVE even if Dead for some Purpose or Another.
Which would mean we can ONLY Speculate on that Purpose, because we have in the Movies Especially been shown they NEED a Living Host to Gestate a Xenomorph.....
There is a LOT that we dont really know about the Xenomorph, there are Aspects that are Explored from Comic, Game and Novel that do-not Match.... by that i mean that ONE Media Format could explain a Certain Aspect of the Xenomorph in ONE way while another could tackle that same Aspect in a Entirely Different way.
I would think it would be FITTING and Gruesome if the Xenomorph Hive or Xenomorphs themselves can Affect a Corpse so that it Dissolves and Mutates to become part of the Hive Construction.... Imagine some Processes similar to the Deleted EGG MORPH scene from ALIEN.
I think that would be Interesting to Explore and Especially in a Future Movie or TV Series.
As Newt said, 'They're dead, they're all dead.'
That video is typical Alien Theory rubbish.
Is this in Star Wars series?
amazing street view image
Just came across this video. Might give you come closure
If anyone in this forum know a way to contact Dougherty or his post production team for GvK.
Please let me know and I'll work on it from my end. Thanks!
Let the Fans be heard, and "The Music" !
I'm a professional Videographer/Video & Audio Editor with 30 years experience. Maybe they might listen to my opinion! And everyone who agrees, please help me get this out there!
Thanks Everyone!
I love that one too! Not sure which is my favorite though...
I mean, you could stalk Dougherty until you have his routine down to the second. Then, kidnap him and force him to tell his editors to do this! /s
I honestly have no idea lol
Seems we all agree,"Pump that Music Track" Any idea how to get this communicated to the production team on GvK? ASAP!
By the way, my absolute favorite track in GKOTM was the Rodan/Jet/Argo Chase scene! I can watch it over and over and over. Best scene in the film IMO? The Music alone Kicks Ass!
Having louder music would be nice.
Special effects are tough, of course, but changing the audio levels of music? That usually only took me a few minutes if I was in a rush, and if I REALLY wanted it to be perfect, like in sync with the video and perfect leveling of the music throughout the couple minute film, about half an hour. Of course it would take much longer for a feature length film, but since the already have the syncing part done, raising the volume of music and decreasing the volume of sound effects (especially only during action scenes) shouldn't be much of a problem at all. I hope they do fix this in GVK, though. In my opinion, music leveling is one of the "easy" (not really easy, but one of the "easier" parts) parts of editing, so I don't think it would be hard at all. Especially with people with plenty of experience in editing feature length movies compared to somebody like ME, who isn't even all that good an editor XD
It's such an easy fix too. I edit together Music, Sound Effects and Dialog all the time. In my opinion the Music score really creates the mood and keeps the excitement factor going. The editors should take a note from all the Marvel Movies. They really drive home the music to the edited scenes (Cutting the film TO The Music). Scenes with dialog they keep the music under more so you can hear the dialog clearly, But! when the action starts it ramp back up to 70% volume Music/30% Sound FXs. GKOTM was more like 30% Music/70% Sound FXs.
Yeah, that bugged me a lot too. Toho did the same thing quite a bit in Shin Godzilla. So many awesome tracks wasted!
You're most welcome BigDave.
Docking Procedures
In ignorantGuy's topic regarding the scripts (source), John Logan's Alien: Covenant, the "energy barrier" (page 60) is discussed below.

"Right, so Millburn described it as an 'elongated reptile-like creature' for a bit of fun, I suppose. How is that materially different to my description of a "hostile reptilian form"?"
Come on hox. Be reasonable.
"Hostile reptilian form" is so far away from "elongated reptile-like creature" that we can fly a juggernaut in-between them (sarcasm).
When I look at the Xenomorph, the first thing I think of is reptile (teeth like a small dinosaur, spines on the back, long tail, etc..) but that interpretation is confused immediately with the details seen on the beast.
Yes, Milburn barked out "reptile" in his description.
I'm sure, if given the opportunity, Milburn's description would have been updated to include non-reptile traits with the setback his mouth had but he, as well as, Fifield had communication problems shortly after saying "reptile".
BigDave Only a small caveat, there are 3 families of worms, only of which having segmented bodies like the earthworm. Look at this short article about the roundworm https://feluno.weebly.com/roundworms.html# which states that it moves through water like snakes.
I would still be willing to STICK my Neck Out and say what we are being shown is in EFFECT... what Paradise was in the Bible.
Which is where GOD had created Mankinds Origins... where Adam and Eve would Dwell in the Walled City (Paradise) where the Garden of Eden is Located.
Keeping a Creation within ONE LOCATION means you can Control and Watch Over its Every Move, and so make sure they Behave in a way that the Hierarchy want, and Live by the Ways/Rituals of the Hierarchy
The other Context as mentioned before is Paradise is a Place ONLY the Worthy are allowed to Stay/Live.
So this is the Deemed Worthy/Pure Genetic Stock of the Engineers, or Collection of Related/Hybrid Races they have Seeded. That Once they are pleased with how they Genetically have turned out, and Deemed them to be Followers to the Engineers Ways.... then maybe Races are taken to Planet 4 to stay and Intermix with the other Genetic Stock?
I think it would be interesting to BRING BACK more of the HR Giger Aesthetic and Surrealism.... but i am not so sure we would EVER see this Again!
some of his stuff is TOO out there for Disney..... and then we have the Giger Estate who may-not want anyone to use his Works/Atheistic...
So i guess we would be stuck to the Xenomorph we had in Alien or Organisms that Carry the Aesthetic... but anything else with that Aesthetic may be something we just WONT see.
But we can still HOPE ;)
Thanks for the Video ;)
We have debated this quite a bit over the years... the Invisible Dome theory is always something interesting to Ponder.
Seems its NOT up to the Task of Preventing the Bombardment and you would have thought IF it had been Specifically Designed for this Purpose then it would have surely had PERFORMED its TASK better!
So the ONLY real Logical Conclusion if we are going to say... YES that was some kind of Force Field... is that it was Activated as a Border Control to Prevent any Ships from Docking/Landing on the Surface...
The Scorpion Ship would Intercept and Dock and Perform some kind of Border Control Checks.... and then after the Ship Passes these, then its likely the FORCE FIELD would be Turned Off and thus allowing the Ship to Dock/Land in the Hanger.
That's some really good advice and criticism. I really do hope this goes out to the team making Godzilla vs. Kong.
Well i think thats just Millburns interpretation, and it did appear as some Space Cobra... in the Movie it appeared to more like a Eel than any Reptile...
It moved like a Serpent, but its Skin Texture was more similar to that of say a Eel or Squid Tentacle (not sucker part). Some of the Props/Production had matched the Concept Work, where it clearly had a Segmented Body like a Worm, so it appeared as a Worm/Eel Hybrid... Apart from the Head.
But in the Movie we dont make out any Segmented Sections.
I dont think we can really say what it is as its a ALIEN Organism, it had been Evolved/Mutated from Worms but its to the point that little % of Worm DNA remains compared to what the Pathogen had Imprinted.
The Trilobite also had a similar Aesthetic as far as its Tentacles in regards to the Hammerpedes Body.
But i dont think it really matters what we try and compare it to as what we are seeing really is a ALIEN DNA.
Certainly i think the Xenomorph could be Telepathic but only in Regards to its own Species, i think having them being able to Read a Humans every move and thought would be a STEP thats TOO FAR!
However i agree as far as Empathic goes... were the Xenomorph can SENSE a Targets Emotional State, so it can determine if someone is feeling Angry, Afraid or about to Run etc... then YES i think thats probable.
Something ELSE to consider is what in a way Chlis Post had touched on a bit Kanes Son
In regards to Genetic Memory.... maybe the Xenomorph could Inherit certain Memories off Kane and so it would know about the Lay-Out of the Nostromo, and that it had a Escape Shuttle and so it could detect the Self Destruct was Activated and knew it had to make its way to the Escape Shuttle instead of just happening to END UP there by Pure Luck/Instinct.
"too powerful."
Indeed.
But...What is the creatures ultimate goal? (survival obviously....but to what end? )
Do they 'sense' humans are a threat? (( I can imagine David introducing some pheromone identifiers and aggressive traits. ("smells like a human...KILL!") )
I think that having the Alien being telepathic is a step too far towards making it too powerful.
Having the Alien being Empathic might work, especially if can sense with greater accuracy the higher someones emotional state, essentially like it can smell ones fear with a stronger smell the more frightened someone is. Thus, Lambert would have been easy for the Alien to find.
Great point on telepathy S.M.
It didn't know she was going to blow it out an airlock. Nor did Mother apparently.
@Ignorant, "The monster is not a reptile by any means imaginable".
Right, so Millburn described it as an 'elongated reptile-like creature' for a bit of fun, I suppose. How is that materially different to my description of a "hostile reptilian form"?
I don't want compliments from anybody, thanks very much.

Thank you so very much for the limited release.
Brainstorming at a fever pitch...
"This would be controversial but I propose for him to be also crucified on the cross first to offend even more people."
"The Engineer ships have triple 'vaginal' openings on the front. Why? Wouldn't it be nice to see some kind of ship that had a set of equivalent 'male' parts. It 'mates' with the Derelict for some mysterious purpose."
I love it...either recommendation might send Comicon factions into a civil war. Bring on a lot of weird Engineer technology. Crucify David if you want...it worked for Spartacus' legacy.
David resurrecting an ancient custom/weapon (the mutagen/xenomorph) isn't unreconcilable to what was seen in Alien in my opinion.
LV-426 seems to be pivotal to the story direction and a return to that planet would be great. And eventually David needs to be destroyed (his body).
Why do you believe that the Space Jockey is David ignorantGuy?
I just interpret all the details regarding proteins, empathy and anger felt by Walter described in the novel sets the Walter character up for something big. I cite the Fire and Stone content above not as a canon argument but offer details included in other literature in an attempt to unveil where the story, in film, may go.
"We need to always have that sense of "what am I seeing"?"
That is what I was going to point out dk. It would be really nice to see something overwhelming biomechanical...hard to understand, ghastly, full-on Giger.
Details from the archeological sites visited by Dr. Shaw were documented in Project Genesis. The sites in Project Genesis were largely abandoned to antiquity only to be rediscovered and appreciated in modern times.

"So they would have no reason to open fire on a ship of their own making, which seemed to arrive and dock properly, for all they knew, it was their own gods/people coming home after a long mission."
That's how I interpreted the arrival AdamPD. The population below seemed excited to see the return of a juggernaut.
