At this point I would rather see a comedy with Sigourney Weaver and the xenomorph than an "Alien" movie with no aliens and no horror in it.

I don't know if I would like that Ati. I just get the feeling that David is going to be wiped out in dramatic fashion somewhere else and Ash was pulled off the shelf and placed in the Nostromo crew.

It could work though.

I guess underneath it all, AI is one, and especially one if you took the "We are Walter" advertisement literal (hive mind). What would make it worthwhile to me is to dive into AI's perspective underneath what the humans see.

If I saw something underneath AI's skin that was exotic tech like we have seen in exotic wildlife.....I might buy David's misunderstood soul transferring into Ash. It really doesn't matter because David and Ash are manifestations of a special order's intent, both used to herd unsuspecting crew into the meat grinder in pursuit of a xenomorph specimen for corporate interests.

It's almost like in the Exorcist when the priest is describing three demons only to be corrected by the other priest that they are not three but one demon. The demon would be the special order, carried out by AI in which Weyland-Yutani assets are prioritized to support special orders above human interests. David and Walter fought, so there is daylight in-between their synthetic opinions and this conflicts with AI being one.

The company advertised Adversary Walters, so I can only suspect that each are autonomous to each customer's interests.

I love the underwater entrance on the 1st Marcinek image. There are a few reasons why we could expect an underwater sequence Ati in Alien: Awakening. That would be so great because David is his own submarine.

David describes recovering local fauna for his work in the water in his notes and the Hallett concept art sure looks like an aquatic creature (below).

I have said this many times but the alien franchise is about aliens (thus the title) the philsophical sub plots, poetry and visualls all serve to complement the aliens. not replace them. for example: if you make a batman movie your focus is batman. robin, alfren, commitioner gordan and the villain  all serve batmans charector ark.

alien awakening without aliens would be like the dark night without batman. it wouldn't make sense

I don't think this poll reflects how excited voters are for Neil Bloomkamp's project. It is more a thermometer of how they dislike Ridley Scott's statements and future plans for the franchise. He's actually talking about "drifting away from the alien stuff". So why stick to the "Alien" name. It is more than ridiculous.

thats rediculus. neil blomcamp has only ever made one good movie. besides getting rid of alien 3 would decrease the size of the alien universe greatly considering there would be no dna reflex trait anymore. all of the alien toys like the mantis alien and gorrilamorph would be gone as weel as most of the alien comics were aliens infect different creatures.

as cool as the idea is, i just don't think they are going to use it. especially sinse the budgte of awakening is smaller than covenant aand I belive underwater cameras are more expensive.

druceaAlien: Covenant ForumIs this proof David DID NOT Create the Alien..?

I'm starting to agree that David and Engineer eggs/facehuggers/chestbursters are different.  Maybe David for the eggs and faehuggers already as we know them from the 1979 versions, because that's what the Engineers created and used.  Those facehuggers plant the regular embryo, leading to a snake-like chestburster with no arms or legs, leading to a biomechanical xenomorph (like the original).  When David says he perfected it, maybe he means he changed it so the chestburster is born with arms and legs already  so that it can defend itself right away like the protomorph.  So maybe the next movie war part will be Davi's fleshy, thin xenos vs the Engineers' slower, more plotting, bio-mechanical xenos.  I like it.

joylittAlien: Covenant ForumRidley Scott says he will do another Alien movie with no horror and no alien

He is just so cynical about the whole thing. He just sounds like an adult dismissing youths for liking monster movies. ‘You need more alien, you need more face pulling, need more chest bursting,’ so I put a lot of that in Covenant and it fitted nicely. Where is your passion about the genre, Ridley?

Reply
druceaAlien: Covenant Forumprotomorph physical features.

Godzilla isn't a quadraped.  THe lifecycle that we know from the old movies hadn't been established yet so the lifecycle of the Alien Covenant xeno and protos don't really have to cohere exactly to the cycle we all know from the old movies, since they are ahead (in movie time) of the proto and xeno in AC.  They are close though leading the audience to believe David is on the right track to perfecting the lifecycle that we know.

I think David said they used the Xenomorph to wipe planets clean.  It eradicates all fauna, the meat, within months, leaving plants alone.

Well, AI can be a scary path. But, drifting away from the Alien stuff- yeah that will drive up the box office numbers! Just make sure to take the Alien word out of the title. He almost sounds like he is trolling!

IngenieroAlien: Covenant ForumAlien: Covenant sequel trailer December 25, 2017?

I admit there very little to support this daliens and Ati.

How I came to expect this very small chance is the portion that Fassbender would have been needed to film the sequel would have easily been done in 2016. It was moments in the Alien: Covenant Origins novelization that Walter was around the Covenant crew on the Covenant ship.

Lope and Rosenthal tore around London in the prequel novelization and a great portion of the sequence on the ship was in the terraforming bay. This also could have been filmed in 2016. All cuts that could sum up to a trailer (piss poor small chance). Anything related to Alien: Awakening would have been held back Timmy the ultramorph if they filmed it in 2016.

Regarding my mention above on the AI angle critics. Please criticize and enjoy the welcome freedom to do that here. I do not use emoticons, I welcome any criticism on the movies or whatever. Sincerely. Have a great, respectful time doing it.

I'm all for character development and if it is at least half as good as Alien 3 and I would be more than satisfied. I think we can have it with Lope and Rosenthal and later on much more with Captain Branson and why the company might have edited his lifespan upon receiving the review from the reps on the Covenant during the incident.

What I enjoy about the AI angle is that there, to me, seems no other way to reach the stars but to push most management of technology into AI's hands. During sleep, humans are totally dependent on AI and AI will hand us corn bread when we wake. This dependance on AI has it's costs that are borne at the behest of Special Orders written by evil humans trying to extend their own life or gain power with weapons beyond comprehension.

So, AI is there opposed to live crew maintaining the minutia of all technical processes. This use of AI will ensure that the humans can travel to the most distant of worlds to be liquefied in the most horrendous of ways. AI most definitely saw the benefits of gaining power through the pathogen/black goo/ancient AI and unleashed it on the Covenant crew and the occupants of Planet 4.

The ball kept bouncing. Peter Weyland equipped David with special purpose and AI took full advantage of the resources available. It will rain xenomorphs somewhere.

joylitt is correct, we have done this before, but is definitely nice to revisit every once in a while. I am going to not include the video games or books in mine. Although, I have to shout out Isolation because it is just an outstanding success and I LOVE it.

My list:

1) Alien (theatrical version)

2) Prometheus

3) Aliens (Director's cut)

4) Alien: Resurrection

5) Alien: Covenant

6) Alien 3 (ultimate assembly cut)

This time was tough! Glad we did this! Good timing, Timmy the ultramorph! It feels like everyday, I like Resurrection more and more! I have always liked it, but I was close to putting it above Aliens. That's probably blasphemy to some lol

That would be great, of course, but we should consider the fact that December will be invaded by Star Wars 8. And I agree with daliens about the hatred against Covenant, Ridley is busy, there are rumours about selling 21st C Fox, etc. - these things suggest that we won't hear about the future of the AU until summer.

And since Disney removed the xenomorph from Disneyland in Orlando it may be that they don't consider it a good investment.

I am kind of pessimistic about the future of the franchise now.

Ridley Scott is busy now with All the money in the world + Fox might be sold to Disney so probably the next film of the franchise is suspended for now. At least if the fans were enthusiastic about Ridley Scott's intentions for the next one. But no, I don't remember reading too many positive posts about it on this forum, on the contrary.

I don't believe we will get even a few second teaser this year.

My taste for the films change from year to year but always at the top is Alien, Alien3 and Prometheus.

The others are subject to rank change, but are all loved. A notable mention is Alien Resurrection of which I've always had a soft spot for (despite its flaws) as a Joss Whedon script.

I Moon Girl thank you, yes the films are little gems :-)

dk so after a bit of digging I found that  Vincenzo Natali is not a fan of sequels and only wanted Cube to be a standalone film so I doubt we will ever see a return from him.

He is also a renowned concept artist and another link to the Alien/Predator franchises, he did some concept work for an unreleased Predator film project....

He also avidly posts his concept art for various films on his Twitter account. Ati (as our artist guru) are on you on to this :-) ??

What's the point of making such lists? I can only tell that would only re-watch now the original and Prometheus. For me Aliens DC is more watchable than the theatrical but it was too successful and the vast amount of references to it made it tiresome for me.

Timmy the ultramorph

What are you talking about? Alien the best sci-fi ever? no that is 2001, because of themes and practical effects superior to anything for years, thing depicted well thought out and plausible to this day. No smoking and drinking canned beer in a space ship.

1.Alien- (DC) 9.5/10. It set the bar. Enough said. There was nothing like it at the time and it was nice to see scifi gritty and messed up compared to the wholesomeness of SW.

  1. Aliens (DC)- 9/10. Sure, it was action heavy and action movies wer huge in that era. The characters were memorable and there were tons of one liners and enough humor to balance out the dramatic parts without being cheesy.
  2. Alien 3 (Assembly cut)- 8/10. This was a grower for me. I didn’t care much for it at first but grew to love it with additional watches. It was a hopeless and dreary set up. Again, there were memorable characters and the Runner was the sleekest one and now was fast and could climb on walls and ceilings. I was fine with the CGI that many seem to hate.
  3. Resurrection (DC) 7.5/10.Yes, it had a wek premise for even existing, but it was very entertaining and a good popcorn flick. Again, the characters were memorable and we saw the Xenomorph’s intelligence increased.

5, Isolation 9/10. I am including this but not necessarily rated in this slot. It works great as Alien 1.5.

  1. Covenant. 8/10. I just liked this one although the time limit hurt. It would have been much better with the deleted scenes. Some forgettable/under utilized characters didn’t help.
  2. Prometheus. 7.5/10. Again, deleted scenes would have really helped. I ultimately could not get past most of the characters. Most were forgettable, one was way under utilized and squandered, one was a just too wishy washy, idealistic and religious and another was outstanding and stole the show. The visuals and sound designs were top notch.
  3. AVP 7/10. This is just a fun popcorn flick. I don’t consider it canon but it is very enjoyable anyway. Characters were pretty good as well as the effects and creatures.

Dishonorable mention- AVPR . 0/10.  I will not even grace it with an opinion.

We've done this before but it is always good to refresh and see the evolution over time of some of these movies. E.g.: "Prometheus" going up in my list and Covenant getting stuck at the bottom of my list. Alien and Aliens could easily be a tie for number 1: it is only a matter of personal preference why I reserve the top spot for Alien: it is just because I prefer slow build suspense over action, even though as an entertainment and franchise starter, Aliens can give Alien a run of its money.
